I have a team associted Nitro tc3 and a Traxxas Revo.My nitro tc3 goes abotu 65 its sweet.I was just wondering how fast that thing went.👍 👍

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum, I was suprised to see nitro R/C here. I have had lots of R/C's, but right now all I have is a Team Associated RC10GT. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures here I will put some up. This is a sweet forum, I never even thought to look if there was a forum for Gran Turismo, I found this by accident, glad I did! I love Grand Turismo almost as much as I love R/C. Well, maybe as much, but it's a tough call. Nice to meet you guys, I think you will be seeing more of me around here. 👍 :)

Hi there justinspeed79 GTP is pretty good in that sense, there's a lot of other stuff here other than on gran turismo. Have a good look around this site to get the most out of GTP:tup:

Anyway i took my car out for the first time since November and ran it quite rich just to be safe. I was surprised at how quick the car started and i drove it for a good half hour before i decided to stop. After an hour's rest i picked the car up to re tune it but i was shocked when i took the shell off. There was burnt fuel everywhere, all around the engine, gearbox, muffler etc. The burnt fuel is quite oily and thick but it was dripping from the underside! Yesterday i took the engine apart but all the gaskets and everything else were in good/very good condition. Its happened before but only a few drops here and there. I don't know whats causing it because the fuels everywhere instead of a certain place. The car works fine, the engine doesn't cut out and is very responsive so whatever the problem is, its not affecting the performance.
Anyone have any idea of whats going on?:odd:

Hey Slick Rick, thanks for the welcome!

Check your header gasket, if they come loose they can spray fuel everywhere. Do you have a tuned pipe or a muffler? If you have a pipe, check your coupler for cracks or holes. Also check around the base of the head to see if it is not coming from there.

Its got a muffler.
I took the cylinder head off this morning, 2 of the screws were very tight and i had to use a pair of pliers to unscrew them, one of them was loose and the last could be unscrewed by hand.
I took a few pics for you:

I was looking carefully at the gasket and i found a crack running along the middle so i stuck my nail in and the gasket fell into two thin pieces!!:

Their both very thin, could it be possible that when the engine was first built someone put in 2 gaskets stuck together by mistake? I'm not sure how thin head gaskets should be but if i put the engine back together with a head gasket twice as thin will it make any difference or more importantly any damage? or should i just put them both back in and pretend nothing happened??

That was probably your problem, if they aren't tightened evenly they will leak. The two gaskets are normal. Most engines come with two gaskets so you can shim the head to adjust the compression for different fuels. I would put them both back in. When you tighten the head hold the head on firmly and evenly with one hand, then, using an opposing pattern, tighten the screws down until they are just snug. After you get them snugged down, continue tightening them 1/2 of a turn at a time using an opposing pattern untill they are tight. It is very important that you keep them as even as possible. If it gets too tight on one side it won't seal good, and you will loose compression and possibly have a leak.

If it still leaks after that, check your muffler gasket.

That's very interesting! i never knew that, they don't show you 2 gaskets on the exploded diagram of the engine.

Before i put the engine properly back together i ran it with one gasket but to keep the engine turning i had to keep the revs up or it would stall when left idle(probably because of the higher compression) but when i revved it, it was brilliant!! the engine roars just by opening the throttle a little bit! The head gasket must have been loose for a while because i cant remember the last time the cars sounded this good. I didn't get to drive it though because there's not enough room in my garden:grumpy: and the exhaust gas smell much nicer too
Its been fun working on the engine. 2 stroke engines are brilliant their simple and very robust. Just hope the leak's fixed tho....
Thanks Justin:tup:

You can check if you have a bad or leaking seal by taking some WD40 and while the engine is running spray it around the carb (where the carb seals to the engine) under the cooling head, and around the backplate. If the engine dies or the idle becomes erratic then you know you've got a leak and where the leak is.

anyone in here have electrics??? i have one but i need a new ESC and an antenna for my controller sis broke it but my kits OLD!!! might post pics later if i can find the digital camera :D Edit: and how much is a base nitro touring car kit???

ChampCarFan: Check out TowerHobbies.com

I Currently still have a Non-Running DuraTraxxx Max. ST Pro. I think i maybe have to buy another motor for it.

I was thinking about getting back into electric R/C Cars and buy a HPI Micro Rs4 w/ a Black Nissian Skyline body for $195 or the Mini-T from Losi for $155. But, i thought about it and looks like i'm just going to try and get the DuraTraxxx up and running by myself. Worse comes to worse, have to send it to the local shop and see if they can get it running.

yah but the thing is i dont buy online or over the phone i like to be there to take it home and all the shops around my place are either right downtown or out in missisauga i might just try and get a new ecu and antenna for my old electric is older than me and still in good condition

Ive noticed recently that my cars performance is MUCH better with the shell off. This is because airflow is increased and it can suck in more air. So i was inspired, well thinking that if I drilled out the carburetor hole a bit, it would increase performance. Ive seen GX21's and their carb's are huge compared to mine. I think the engine has a lot more to give and the small carb is holing it back...

Here's a pic of it at full throttle:

Yaaay!!
I finally got around to ordering parts from Tower Hobbies for my Terra Crusher - Spur gear and pinion gear, as well as a few spare parts (Axle halfshafts, suspension arm, extra transmission gear set w/ spur gear). I hope once I get it fixed up, it'll still run. After all, it's been more than a year. My fuel has all probably gone bad.
(Can you add octane booster to R/C fuel to restore it?)

No, nitro methane dont work the same way as gasoline

And slickrick, what engine is that? All of the engines ive seen has a full opening when the carb is open. I dont see why your barrel hole would be smaller than the carb hole (seeing that your's is a barrel carb).

Anyways, now that im posting in this thread, time to show off my new toy :)

Its a 1/16 IRC Vulcan buggy. This thing is crazy fast with its 2spd tranny

I was having some "technical difficulties" with the pullstart as you can see in the second pic. But ive fixed that and now it runs great

i'm thinking about getting rid of the pullstart on the DuraTraxx whenever i get around to fixing it{I'm pinching pennies so hard Abe has a bruise on this face}

Wow! The blue looks really good! Its a Kyosho right? That fuel tank is tiny! how long does it run before you have to re-fuel?

My engine is a GX15 btw. I drilled the hole out anyway but havent started it up yet, should be better....hopefully:nervous:
Heres a pic:

See in the carb, that pipe sticking out of the hole? Thats where the fuel comes out and its length can be adjusted. What would happen if I screwed it in/out more? When i was putting it back together, i wasnt sure how long is should be.

Hey guys! I never knew there was a thread like this on GTPlanet. I work part time at a hobby shop here in Wisconsin, USA. That is cool that you guys like model cars too!

Oh, by the way Mach One the Nitro TC3 is a really good car.👍 It handles great, is fast(equipment pending) and is super easy to get parts for if you make a mistake while driving! Upgrade parts are also easy to come by. I used to have one, but sold it when I needed some cash.:ouch: If interested I have insider info that Team Associated is coming out with a Nitro TC4 soon!:sly:

Any estimates on how fast it goes? I've heard it'll do 65 MPH or so stock, and some say 75 MPH is maxing out for it. I can definitely imagine taking that to the old abandoned Wal-Mart parking lot and going wide open .

Watch that the guy selling it doesn't bullsh** you on 'scale speed'

A more realistic speed would probably be 45-50mph, but the official speed record for the car (modified) is around 125mph!:)

I'd probably buy some performance upgrades for it and make it a sleeper.

It'll be funny when I completely trash other people's electric Wal-Mart RC Cars

Yes top speed would be around 45-50 mph since the ntc3 comes stock with a 2speed tranny. Correct me if im wrong, but i dont think any 1/10 touring sedan has hit the 100mph mark. Although a super modified electric team tc3 with 14 cells have hit 96mph.

RC bashing is cool but why would anyone want to play around with ppl whos got walmart toys?

Yaaaay!!!
I got my parts in the mail today... If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get the car apart and back together before mid-January.
