Is it me or have all the mods jumped on the closing threads bandwagon? I don't get it! The people who make threads that are about previously discussed topics are obviously noobs. Why do you always have to get ill with them and tell them to search? I know when I first came her I never searched for topics that were discussed before mine. When you're new, you just don't think about it.

It seems as though you guys have been closing at least 3 threads a day the past month or so. Ever since I've joined GTP I've only used that damn thing 1 time. It was only to see what you guys kept makinga big deal about. I even tried to search a popular topic. It wasn't to easy to get the results I wanted.

Moderators, you think you could chill out on the closings? Another question, what is closing a thread even doing? All it does is stop the conversation about that topic. Why can't you let that noob thread starter and other noobs enjoy the thread which is now easier to find then an anciently discussed one?

No we just have a bigger and more active moderating force. Before the changes there were tonnes of GT3 threads that needed to be closed and some arguments got out of hand that were never noticed because moderators of those forums had gone Awol.

So it's a sign of good moderation.

Edit:I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule, I rule and I rule.

Close this thread y0! and make co-cept paronoid.

Edit: Edit: Feck, I forgot what I was going to say.

Oh well. I've seen a couple threads closed for what I think are lame reasons. Closing just about any thread is pretty lame I think. But then again, I'm not a moderator.

Link us, oh sarcastic one.

Edit: No.

Well, I will say this: MistaY is right in that our moderating team is much larger than it was several months ago, plus we now have a greater time zone span (with Giles and Chris), so we have a lot more energy devoted to moderating (there's almost always a mod online at any given time).

Also, you have to understand that except in the more extreme circumstances, we don't just look at a thread for a second and then close it on impulse. I probably annoy the heck out of the other moderators, since I'm constantly asking about threads (even going so far as to bugging Chris and Giles on MSN :p). We all give it plenty, plenty of thought before using our powers. You have to understand that-- the fact that we rarely do things on impulse.

That said, I myself have been concerned about going too far in closing off threads (which probably goes in every mod's mind), but I'm personally quite satisfied that we've maintained a good balance of leisure and tolerance. I think it's quite amazing how civilized GTPlanet is, despite how big it is. :)

Just say they are the better kind of closed threads, although I would have deleted some of them, but thats why i'm not a moderator.

I've got to say, i see far less threads being closed here than pretty much everywhere else i go.

Stop whining, and admire the fact we browse an almost assclown-free website. :)

The most for me.

I agree with that. This place doesn't have any asses really. There are many at GTF. Also, I'm not whining, I just think some of the mods have turned/are stupid.

I think pretty much all of the mods were well selected...sometimes i disagree but it's their decision, and they got in their position because they probably can make a more informed decision than me. No, I'm not sucking up.

Well, the three I closed yesterday were all those Frodo's 'Do you want the cheats for...' and tell me they weren't going to turn into flame fests. I can't remember threads I'd closed before that.

I usually get a hail of PMs when I close a thread, so I'm fairly reluctant to do it.

I closed two threads yesterday, by sk8ermansomething -- something, because he was getting a lot of flame by members. So I answered his questions and closed the threads. Furthermore, Sage summed everything up quite well, go read his post.

The only time a closed thread bothers me is when I have some self-perceived clever comment to add to the heap of B.S. but I'm too late.

I am glad the mods harp on the search function so much. I use it and it works pretty well.

Of course a chat feature would get rid of 95% of the superfluous threads.

...which Jordan tried a few months ago, only to find it went nearly immediately to real-time flamefests instead of slowchat flame fests. I think that experiment lasted about 8 hours.

It was there for a while, and the few times I used it I never saw any flaming. And so what if there's flaming anyway? At least it would keep it out of the forums and keep it much more contained. It was good for the site. Taking it away seems like a punishment or something.

When a noobe posts a thread like, "How do you do the wheelie trick?", a kind word is expressed in using the search feature, a link is provided, then the thread is closed.

If ever a thread is closed, the acting moderator should PM the thread starter as to the reason for it's closure so future threads from that member will not repeat the same course of action.

There seems to have been an increase in thread closings and warnings from moderators. Simultaneously there seems to have been a drop in posts and new threads. Maybe that is the idea. But the moderators here, not all, but some, seem to have become rather high handed, preemptory.

The next time you moderate something of mine, I'll remember that and PM the hell out of you and most of the mod staff. I'll teach you not to mess with me yet...

Please, Doug, anything but that....

Don't make me PM you.

I feel like starting an inappropriate thread just so you'll close it and I can PM you to no end.

I'm turning into Klos, I think - it's got to be his charm.
