This is unbelivable, i start a mission 11 only thread, its very active people are posting critical information, split times, videos, techniques. Not an ill word spoken in the whole post

I also clearly stated i had read the entire retarded 75 page mission hall thread and searched, Then one a-hole comes in and types "did you search" and now my thread is locked.

I seriously think the mods need to put down the controller for a minute and think. There was 0 reason to lock this post down.

The mission hall thread has become usless to do its incredible length.

If the mods actually want to be helpfull why dont the create a mission hall thread FOLDER with a post for each of the 34 individual missions so it would actually be USEFULL!

end of tirade. :ouch:

Uh oh.....I bet Swift and Dave are going to give you a piece of their mind. Please brace yourself.

I also understand your complaints but I do believe there is a better way to go about it.

Hey hey hey .. there's no reason to go call him an asshole because he asked if you searched. Do a search for "Mission Skyline" and you will recieve over 60 some results, so you can see why most people are a little testy when it comes to this.

Check out the videos section of the homepage and you'll find a video Famine and Daan put together for Mission 11 and that should help you out.

Oh and about the Mission Hall forum, that does sound like a good idea to me and as you said it would definately help to eliminate the noise to signal ratio for mission hall help.

Agree with that too... Posts with hundreds of replies tend to get too hard to read. There really could be a sub-forum for mission hall wioth threads for each mission...

...which would get hundreds of replies and multiple asks of the same question.

Consider the existing subfora for Race Reports and Settings & Tunings. Even though there are threads in those forums for many races or cars, how often do the same questions get asked here anyway?

For instance, the Speed 12 - I just moments ago closed a thread on this board asking for correction settings for that car. Now, there is at least one thread on the car in the Settings board, but the poster didn't know (or bother) to look.

The same thing holds true for the GT World Championship. New "What car should I use?" and "Why won't it let me enter?" threads come up daily, even though there are numerous threads on the topic.

FAQs only work when people bother to read them.

to be a mod here is probably quite overwhlming, because of all the spam this site gets daliy. just because some one says "search" doesnt mean that they are an "a-hole" and furthermore, the person telling you to serch wasent even a moderator, it was ram-rod.

it does if the person starting the thread says in their post that they've already exhausted the resources available from searching.
then the person yelling "search!" is the one too lazy to read.
its like some of the elitist pricks that shout "RTFM!" without reading the person's question.

Yeah, I also wondered why that thread was closed, but your tone in the above post is uncalled for. You get more flies with honey, as the old saying goes...

TBH I found all the help I needed on the mission hall races quite easilly. I wen't into the mission hall thread, posted my question in there and go a link to that exelent site provided by Daan with vids of how to do the missions from him and Famine. My point is, that while that thread may be stupidly long, why not ask you're question IN IT, rather than create a new thread. You know any answers will be shortly after you're post so they won't be too hard to find.

i think it should be locked. as you've said there are already a lot of threads on this topic so why are you making it worse? lock it, and keep all useful replies with one single thread. i know there are70+ pages but i think its better than few tips on one thread, few more on another.. that would be a nightmare.

Welcome to the watched list. ;)
Just kidding. :sly:

I'm the one who closed your thread.

Starting a new thread for the same old subject is not how we do it around here.

You could have posted your questions in the official mission hall thread.

People would have tended to them in the exact same way only you wouldn't have gotten all the "search" commands.

I don't know why you wasted your time reading the entire mission hall thread only to start a new thread and not post in the thread that was created for your questions.

No one said "hey, the mission hall thread has your answers!"
We merely said "post this in the correct thread!"

Then after getting a re-direct to the thread you should have posted in, people still provided you with information to nearly no end.

Once all that info was provided and you replied "ok, now I will go beat the mission" I decided it was time to lock the thread.

I suppose I could have merged it with the other but I am tired of sweeping these things under the carpet just so the next guy can come along and do the exact same thing you are doing now.

You don't like having your threads locked?

Search for the proper threads and post in them.

In any case, have fun here at the gtp- or not... Just watch your tone, offensive/abusive replies are considered a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy & Terms Of Service agreement.

No one will have a problem with answering questions about Mission 11 in the mission hall thread even if it has been covered already.

Btw, I don't believe a word you've said about reading through the entire mission hall thread.

Just a quick search of the thread brought me these 3 replies.

Question And Answer 2-post Set With Famine and Daan's Video Work Refferenced and Linked!

Excellent Write-up Of Mission 11 By Uncle Harry

All based on a search of the Official Mission Hall Thread using the word "york."

I think this is the only forum I've ever seen where it is more acceptable to bump an old thread than start a new thread about whatever the old thread was about.

Whatever your frustration might be, you can not call anybody else names here....

The mods are doing their best to keep this forum as clean as possible, and they dont get paid by you (or me ) for it.......

In the long run you will enjoy this forum more if you try to make friends, not enemies.

Believe me when I tell you that ALOT of forums are that way. Size usually plays the key role in the type of response mods give out (i.e. locking vs. bump allowing). The more users...the more they'd rather you use an already created thread as a reference and post in it ONLY if it didn't specifically answer your question.

Oh yeah, you are also a new member. I remember when I first started posting here had a few of my own threads closed due to my lack of coherence with the *search sticky*. Thus, my thread was closed.

You really cant get mad about a moderator closing your thread. It is GOING to happen at some point. They do their best.

ha ha, if you want the same threads to occur over and over again on redundant topics that have been covered countless times before, go check out GameFaqs haha

A lot of debate on this subject and I can tell that the mods are starting to get a bit short with people (and I personally can see why - mulitiple thread in a single day on the same subjects gets a bit much and searching is not to difficult).

Duke closed a thread earlier on the grounds that it was in the wrong location and that it is not possiable to accuratly measure 0-60mph times, now I had no chance to reply to this one, and could have brought a useful point to it.

It is more than possiable to obtain accurate 0-60 mph times (I have done it in the 0-100-0 tests over in the GT4 and Brakes thread).

Personally I liked things better when we had thread creation going through the mods, stopped a lot of this.

Thread approval in a forum of this size would lead to institutionalized moderators in no time.

We've had it before when GT4 was first released and the site suffered from a huge volume of similar threads being started.

Yes it did take a few hours (days at the busiest) to get your thread posted, but at least the stuff that did get through was not a repeat of subjects covered time and time again.

At present a lot of very good threads, some with original topics that deserve space just get pushed off by the 20th version of 'whats the best car in GT4' thread.

Don't get me wrong, the idea is proven to work.

I'm just looking from a moderator's point of view. Most of these guys probably mod from work and I'm sure there are infinitely LESS thread reports waiting in their mailboxes now than there would be thread requests.

I mod a 40,000+ member board, a 10k+ member board, and several 1k-5k+ member boards, and I can't imagine having to do approvals on the larger ones.

Definetly agree i mean a forums is almost like a chat and if you bring anything up that has already been covered its like MURDER cheesh!
1. You have no context to your statement. "agree" with what?

2. This is NOT like a chat. It is an information sharing resource. You want chat? Go on IRC, set up a channel (I'm sure one probably already exists) and talk your head off.

Does anyone understnad "signal to noise ratio"?

The size of the forum really doesn't matter--you'll just have to get more moderators. This ought to be easy if you can find someone sensible enough becuase you won't have to pay him/her anyway! lol The only other thing that would have to be changed is the organization of threads as in more "folders" of threads. Instead of a few random threads about say the GTWC, you could have a relatively small folder for general discussion of the GTWC and a mod could control the threads there, whether they were new ideas or ones gone awry. It'd be like a wading pool...with a lifeguard. lol Okay...maybe that was a bad example, but you know what I mean.

But I agree; I AM sick of great threads being killed by "GT4s engine sounds SuXoR!" or similar things. I also think that were there fewer stickies, the short-of-attention-span might feel more inclined to at least peruse them by one click instead of five or six. The fix? Make a single sticky thread (or two) with links to all the important stickies that USED to be in place. Yes I realize a similar system is instituted now in the form of FAQ threads, but that's not done throughout the forum. I think that'd be a bit more help.

The inclusion of the wiki site should be a big help in all of this. It will have ALL the answers one could possibly want with exception to vehicle settings.

This forum needs people to chill out think its disgusting how the moderators treat people on it think il find another forum or make 1
Well .. if you don't like it there is nothing stopping you from leaving.

The reason that I've been on your case your last few threads is because you're creating threads in the wrong forum and not searching for your answer before you post. If you start doing that I guarantee you'll notice things will be alot different around here.
