DC isn't the type to block someone on a hot lap though, he's had it done to himself and knows how frustrating it is so I don't really think that he was told Kovalainen was on a hot lap.

If Kovalainen had a brain he'd have held back before the last corner (having realised he wasn't going to do anything that lap) and given himself a clear run in his last flying lap.

How could he? DC was coming out of the pits. Heikki wouldn’t have seen him until after the first corner (or on the front straight at earliest, at which point you’re committed to the lap anyway). DC should have let him past before Mirabeau. Mind you, I don’t think I saw any blue flags for DC.

umm, this is only the 5th race....

And he’s already lapping 2.3 seconds a lap faster than his team mate with two full seasons experience on him. ;)

Well, like a good brasilian, I wait see Massa in the front, and Rubens between the 10 firsts . In the GP2, Bruno Senna, sure ! Since the lost of Ayrton Senna, we have lost the interest in F-1, but, with Massa and B.Senna, the hopes are back !

The sun is out, and some are sticking with medium tire. Great race so far.

EDIT: Great finish! McLaren finished so far ahead of Ferrari!

To bad for Nico. What the hell happened? I like this kid.

McLaren annihilated everyone. Even when they were cruising towards the end, they were still the fastest cars out there.

No. Alonso had him covered at all times. Hamilton was getting very ragged towards the end trying to keep up.

good work by speed from 19th to 9th I think it was............ BMW did a great job I think got me scared in the end though with pit guys out

I meant Heikki should have held back when he tried to go up the inside of DC on the last corner. He still had enough time to get another lap in. Oh well quite irrelevant in terms of race result, Heikki would've fluffed up a high up grid position anyway........

What a one sided race, quite boring imo. Though Speed and the BMWs did well.

I wouldn't say exactly throughout all 78 laps, after the half of the race, Hamilton decreased the gap dramatically, waking up Alonso to keep pushing.

A lovely race though, both Mclaren's gave none of the other cars a chance. A lovely race it was, especially near the end with Alonso and Hamilton so close to eachother, playing with the barriers there...

Too bad for Rosberg though, he was so much faster than Heidfeld but his strategy killed him...

About the Heikki - DC thing, DC never really knew Heikki was on his hotlap as RBR never told DC through the radio Heikki was on his hotlap.

I couldnt see the race, was out and just got home.. Could someone please post the first 6 or 8 names?
EDIT : Sorry for that, just went to forumla1.com and I had to hunt for this link but I got what I was looking for!! SWEEET!! McLaren Domination is something I LOVE to watch! (or would've loved to watch :( )

1 1 Fernando Alonso McLaren-Mercede
2 2 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes
3 5 Felipe Massa Ferrari
4 3 Giancarlo Fisichella Renault
5 10 Robert Kubica BMW
6 9 Nick Heidfeld BMW
7 17 Alexander Wurz Williams-Toyota
8 6 Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari

Only watched the first 20 laps, and the final 10, both on LiveTiming, so again, laptimes are my only source. Towards the end, the fastest laps were Alonso/Hamilton, and repeat. One fast for Hamilton, then one for Alonso, keeping a 2-4 seconds gap.

They don't air F1 here... But I got to watch a splendid Superbike race at a completely-soaked Silverstone.

Surprised that not many retired, usually more than that. As for Hamilton catching Alonso during the race, don't forget Alonso hit a string of 4 or 5 back markers and that is where he lost most of that time, it wasn't just down to Hamilton suddenly setting the track alight. I feel the slow start for Lewis lost him the race, and not staying out longer during the second pit stop phase. Great move off the start to block Massa though.

... I'm not entirely sure what Honda were doing out there; if they had run both Button and Barichello a little heavier and only done one stop they would have taken points (or do they have to do two stops?) ...

Rumour has it JB is looking for an early exit to his contract, though there's no specifics as to why he wants out or where he might go and it's in contradiction to earlier statements that suggest he'll stick around. But you're right, both he and Ruby must be bemused as to that last round of stops. Alright, so they did pit a few laps short of halfway, but a little extra fuel in the one stop and they would have been fine.

Another early exit? I doubt Button could afford to spend another £20+ Million to leave. Plus where would he go? Would you have a driver who has effectively dishonoured his last 2 contracts? Hardly what you'd call loyalty.

I doubt he'll leave btw.

Would you drive for a team who are a big fat failure?

Heck I reckon he could do well in a Red Bull seat..

Well it's not the first time Honda have messed up on the strategy, they really need to start asking some questions among themselves if they wish to A) Keep Button and Barrichello and B) Actually win another race..

As for Button, rumour has it that BMW might be after his services as both Heidfeld and Kubica's contracts finish at the end of this season..

Personally? I see him at either Honda or Super Aguri next year.

Hmmm, weird, I heard that Button has no intention to leave...I don't think he should as well. He knows the Honda crew in and out now, as well as Barrichello. This year is just a dip for Honda. After 2004, they didn't impress too much in 2005, yet in 2006, they were the quickest after the big three. Just give them some time, at least they didn't run in the back as in last races...Look at Ralf, started 9th in Melbourne. Then 13th, 15th, 17th and 20th...There are only 2 more places to go! I think Ralf will be the first to be kicked out, we all know how "not-patient" Toyota is...

Yeah, I've heard the same, and I'm inclined to go with it. The reason being is that despite these "rumours" that he's looking for an early-exit clause, nobody's actually sure what comes after the "rumour" part. There's nothing to indicate where he might go if he does get out, or who would be willing to take him. Similarly, there's no indication as to anything else other than that there's a rumour flying around. It could simply be someone stirring the pot.

Please make any more comments about the "McLaren race fixing fiasco" in this thread. Thanks.

EDIT: I've moved comments referring to it into the other thread.
