I recently bought a Radeon 9200, and I get some high displays (I.E 1800x1440) And when I try anything above 1600x1200, the display is all garbled and such and I dont even know whats going on...Im thinking it's something with the monitor...Any help would be appreciated!

-Adam.

The Monitor is a 17 inch Viewsonic CRT, BTW.

Probably the max resolution of your monitor will be in the region of 1280x960

I'm pretty sure that the maximum on a 17" CRT monitor is 1280x1024.

Though, for some odd reasons, I can select 1600x1200 in the Display Properties>Settings menu, it's usually not there but on occasion it will just be there.

Yup, your monitor is holding you back. Don't fret though, with your graphics turned up that high, it would be a strain on your Graphics Card, so I wouldn't dare run it that high anyway.

It may also be because the screen ratio of 1800 x 1440 is not the standard ratio used by more common resolutions of 1024 x 768. By using a common resolution such as 1600x1200 it will create a garbled image as you've described because it is having to render more pixels than it should need to in a smaller space. I can't fully explain it but I hope you get my drift,

With my R9200Pro 256MB and my 21" TTX CRT, I can properly display up to 1600x1200. Anything higher than that I have to scroll either up/down or left/right to see the rest of the screen.

A lot of reasons. People who work on large graphics in Photoshop or Illustrator, 3D modeling and rendering, big monitors/widescreen monitors, or people who want to venture above 1600x1200 for gaming.

well i use a NEC SuperBright Diamondtron on a ati 256 9800 pro.... and my max set is 1600x1200..... so i would think it would just be the monitor....
