Hey I have decided to build a gaming pc should I get 3 23 inch screens side by side or should I just get 1 27 inch. Also is it better to buy an alienware desktop or just build my own.

Build your own. It adds to the experience, saves money, and makes you you think "I created that". As for the monitors it really depends on what desk you put your monitors on. Depending on the size of the desk you won't or will have room for 3 monitors on their own stands or using a special 3 monitor stand(Requires the monitor to have VESA mounting and the size of the mounting varies). If your desk is too small then you would have to look at just using a 27" monitor. You may have to also consider 3D since monitors now have the technology and many graphics cards support them now.

I personally would got with 3 screens because it helps with multitasking like having a browser open on one window with music player in another and a game or document your working on in the centre. Some games also support playing across multiple screens.
If you are going for 3 screens first make sure that your graphics card can display across 3 screens simultaneously.

P.S. Definitely build your own pc as it is cheaper and will fit your needs better than any shop-bought pc. It is surprisingly easy to build, I have very little experience but I managed to build mine without any problems

Do you have a budget? You could build a really nice PC with just one 23" monitor and then work up to three without breaking the bank.

I have 3x22" monitors and it's awesome. I'd much rather have peripheral vision and not much height over little peripheral vision and a little extra height. By contrast I have a 24" monitor for my Mac and whenever I use it for games I feel like I have tunnel vision, same applies when I play a game that doesn't support Nvidia Surround...

Have you factored the increased cost of graphical hardware to run three monitors in to your decision? I'm using a single GTX 680 and it's great, but I'm starting to wonder about buying a second one when I can afford it.

Only you know if you want one or multiple monitors.

I used to own two monitors, a 22" and a 23". It's great for multitasking, but it's also distracting and I disliked looking at one monitor at an angle.

I now own one 27" monitor and I couldn't be happier.

Also, buy a monitor with a quality panel like IPS. Do not buy cheap crap with TN panels.
