PS3 FTW
After making a mistake with youtube I will get help from here.

Here's the problem my PS2 slim has been unused for about 6 years now I wanna play it because my PS3 got YLOD and I wanna play GT4 and GT3. When I turn it on its red press the button and it turns green for 1 sec the goes back to red. Talked to sony and said its a power problem and they said to send it in for repair. But I don't want to because then I could just fix the ps3 and right now I can spend 100$ because my parents need to see my grades and thats not till the end of this month. I haven't played Grand Turismo in a long time so it bothering me.

The PS2 slim has an external power supply, doesn't it? I'd try getting a new one, if that doesn't work then you have to send your PS3 (or 2) to Sony.

Or try smearing Vaseline on it (sorry, I did try to resist).

lol a 100 bucks for a repair? If buying a new cable doesn't work, you could easily just by a used slim PS2 for $60, im sure the fats are cheaper as well.

That's odd. Have you checked for dust in any of the plug-ins at all? That might be stopping it from running properly. Maybe one of the peripherals has some kind of fault? Could be some kind of weird hardware fault or decay/rot due to such a long period of rest. That's just a wild guess, I don't know what's going on there.

You can buy them brand new for $50

What's the difference between the slim and fat? Looks?

Components are newer, and sometimes you run into a game maybe a fat cant play but a slim can, or vice-verse. My lil bro's slim cant play Xenosaga, but my fat can.

And it generates less heat so it should be more reliable, uses less power and has a built in modem (right?). Oh and it has a flappy lid instead of a in-out tray so that would improve the reliability and ease of lens cleaning I suppose.

The Fat PS2 can also hold a HDD which some online games support ( Socom,Resident Evil Outbreak, Final Fantasy online, etc) If repairs to the PS2 are around 100. Just get a newer one for 50, you will have a store warranty if anything happens to it.
