With the release of the PC version of Bioshock (alongside its X360 release) has come another wave of rumours surrounding the potential port of Bioshock to the PS3.

These (weak, we’d like to add) rumours, come from a bit of code found in the PC demo's config.ini file what lists the PS3 as a console.

It does make you question why its there, but at the same time there could be a very basic explanation such as it was a piece of placeholder code left in from early in the game's development, before the exclusivity was even a factor. On the other hand it could actually mean that the game is coming to PS3, but we’re not going to hold our breath. At the moment it just seems that PS fans are clutching at straws. Just be patient and lets see what happens, eh.

I'm in no hurry. If it's true it just means 2K Games will have time to fix all the problems they are having with the current PC & X360 editions of Bioshock.

I was going to pick up the PC edition, but not after reading about and seeing pics of all the reported problems being "discussed" on 2K Game's Bioshock forum, like the lack of any anti-aliasing, 25% scaled and cropped widescreen POV, as well as the many technical and gameplay glitches being reported.

It would appear this game was not quite ready for prime-time. It's unfortunate as the theme, story, and graphics look to be amazing! Hopefully they'll resolve many of these issues and re-release the game as it should have been done in the first place. 👍

Who knows... maybe even with some kind of online gameplay mode... not that it's needed.

I read the other day that the config file could simply indicate the overall game engine.. Unreal Engine 3 is available for all three consoles.

I'll wait for something a little more concrete. Or just buy it for 360.

You know Epic denied Gears of War for PC as long as they could even though it showed up in Nvidia's driver log. I'll take it as speculation.

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/24/levine-confirms-no-ps3-bioshock-and-does-mea-culpa-on-pc-issues/

Joystiq just got off the phone with Ken Levine, lead designer for BioShock, who says the BioShock PC issues are overblown because they're under a microscope right now due to the game's profile and he fully admits they "screwed up," patches are most definitely in the works and there is no PS3 version of BioShock in development or planned.

Levine admits there were "real screw-ups" and he "understands why people are pissed off" about the online copy protection verification for the game and it comes down to a classic victim of their own success story. They couldn't have planned the game would be such an insta-hit and they weren't prepared, so when all those people tried to verify their PC versions online during installation the server crashed. He also reiterated patches are in the works for the FOV issues and that the copy protection limit locked in for PCs will be raised. He also assured us that the servers used to authenticate the game for the PC to allow installation will be there for decades in case someone wants to install the game years from now. He says there is nothing "insidious" in their copy-protection, it's the same as any other game that uses the same protection program.

Then there is the lingering question of the rumored PS3 version of BioShock found in the PC code. Levine responds quite clearly, "I promise you, there is no secret plan about the PS3 that we're keeping from people. There's no PS3 development going on that we're hiding. There's lots of stuff that gets into game code, plans change over time and we got an exclusive deal with Microsoft ... that's not a Rosetta Stone discovery."

We'll have the full Ken Levine interview up as soon as the lovely and joyful transcription process finishes.

Funny how my Bioshock cover doesn't say 360 Exclusive or whatever (but then it is the tin version, maybe it's not on that? edit - yeah it's on the normal box). Still it sounds official. But didn't Bethseda say the same thing about Oblivion? Levine does say exclusive though. Strange in a way because seeing how successful the game is the developers could make a lot of money from releasing it on the PS3, unless of course Microsoft paid the difference (damn they have deep pockets!).

My bad, the first thing I did after see the news was to go straight to this thread and post it. I should have scroll up and read:irked:

Ain't no thang, well all do it from time to time. But the more intersting aspect of your post that I initially skimmed past is the closing :D. How exactly is this "big grin" news for us PS3 owners?

Bioshock is an awesome game.. If it ever does come to PS3, I'd encourage the lot of you to go buy it instantly.
Agreed, and for those without a 360, but have a decent PC, you don't even have to wait for any rumored PS3 version.

Thanks in part to Bioshock's limited re-play value (~6 hour play through, two difficulty levels, only two possible endings, and no online play) you can also pick used copies for less than $30.

The game isn't without its faults of course, some more disappointing than others, but the compelling back story, beautiful environments, and creative strategies that can be deployed, for me at least more than make up for the game's deficiencies.

Personally, Bioshock is one of the most interesting FPS games I've seen, and I hope it inspires other FPS game developers to re-think their approach to their games. 👍
