More understeer at 24h layout

Hey guys,

I was tuning a 550pp Ferrari 458 today in an online lobby at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. I managed to get rid of some annoying understeer. However, when I went to a different lobby which was at the Nurburgring 24h layout I had a very noticable increased understeer at the the same corners.

I tried with a different car (which I tuned at the 24h layout and was fine there) and I noticed more oversteer at the Nordschleifde layout. Tried with more cars and noticed the exact same thing so I come to the conclusion that the balance is more towards oversteer at the Nordschleife and more towards understeer at the 24h layout. I find this pretty rediculous.

Just wondering if there are others who noticed this as well and how they feel about this.

I've never encountered anything like this.

Couldn't it just have been some different room-settings? I don't remember the correct name of the one setting, I'm thinking about, but I do remember, you can change it to real ...

Track edge grip (or similar wording)

Yeah, it could have something to do with that. I'll make sure to test it tomorrow with all similar settings. But I noticed it more than once, that's when I started thinking about it but maybe it's just a coincidence that it was on the 24h when it understeered.

I recently drove on the Nürburgring GP track and my times decreased by 1sec after the host refreshed the room.

I've noticed when I sometimes drive in a room on the dry North Loop, the car feels very slippery. even on RS tyres with no tyre wear. I got noticeable understeer at turns I could take with confidence offline. this hasn't happened all the time but, enough to think something's up. Good connection. Cache cleared.

I think there are slightly different physics in offline and online mode, the people here at the forum might be able to confirm this.

Well, I just tested several cars on both tracks with gripreduction at the edges (don't know the exact translation) at realistic and weak. I didn't notice any difference this time. The only thing I could think of right now is that it might have to do with the chassis rigidity. So that I crashed a couple of times and that this changed the chassis rigidity, which influenced the handling of the car. But there was definitely a difference yesterday

Physics difference between Online and Offline are now minimal and would not cause this kind of discrepancy.

Crashes have no effect of Chassis Rigidity - the only determining factor is distance travelled.

It could be possible that the time of day & weather settings would affect handling. I've noticed that if it is misty, but not raining, that the track has slightly less grip. This happens at night too, the track seems to be not as fast when the sun goes down. I think PD may have simulated track temperature, even though there's no info given to us in-game.

Did you use the regular circuits or the ones with weather? And if applicable, what was the weather like when you drove on each?

Also, it's worth noting that when slipstream is set to Strong, you will not get any reduced aero effect when following other cars. When it's set to Weak, then you will get more understeer when following other cars. Maybe it was that, or some combination of the many other possibilities mentioned by everyone in this thread!

I imagine the lobby settings, tyre wear and grip reduction, were likely different. Both these settings can drastically alter available grip. Secondly, there is a very distinct difference between the regular Nurb track and the 24H version. The 24H version has a lot more grip than the regular flavour. You can almost see the difference in the surface of the track...

Was either of the lobbys set to;
Race for real or
Race for fun.

This caught me out in the early days.

What exactly does that have to do with anything? all that refers to is what kind of people you'd like to drive with - people who like taking racing seriously or people who just like to muck about. It has zero effect on the game play.

Agreed. It's nothing more than a category for people to filter the available rooms to choose from. It doesn't actually change any settings.

The difference between online and offline physics may be smaller now, but I can still feel a difference. Catches me out sometimes too.
