Hello to all, and to all, hello.

I'm putting together a local GTS league here in Iceland, and as I've finally got enough participants to get the ball rolling I'm starting to craft the schedule.

The season will start late March/early April and will consist of 12 races, averaging 2 per month. The plan is to have it a mixed league, as in not a set category of cars throughout the season. I do plan on using Gr.3 and Gr.4 more then others, but I also plan on throwing in some Nxxx class races and possibly some one-makes.

So my question to you guys is, what are the most balanced Nxxx classes in the game in your opinion? :)

This might be a good starting point for you. @MidFieldMaven tested several N classes and you can see the time difference between each car.

Maybe this will help you reach your decision?
He tests the cars without BoPing them first so it's completely irrelevant.

Let's hope PD will balance the N classes better after the numbered groups are balanced correctly.

I race almost exclusively in N500 / 600.

They are both well balanced but you have to keep tuning open.

This is what most don’t get. PD could use N classes today, it’s gr cars ruining everything and those rally road cars.

Back on topic, keep the tuning open so people can adjust their car to the track. Otherwise everyone will have to pick a car based on its stock characteristics.

All lobbies with tuning open have a good diversity on the grid unlike other classes (beetle, M4/6:rolleyes: ) and are definitely more fun than driving race cars full gas all the time which go on rails

I like N300 but it might be good to have a minimum weight requirement and allow transmission tuning since gearing makes a huge difference.

Do you not find the GT3RS blows everything else away?

Good point,

Two considerations:

It won’t be the go to car choice for many because of its handling. So you see people using it but only finish mid rank (unlike cars in other classes) behind GTRs and co.

With the new updates the F40 and also the Mclaren F1 are there as well, given you can use them.

Once again we return to the point of open tuning. If people can set their cars decently, the field I think is more open than what many believe at the moment.

Didn't know this. Completely ignore everything I have just said @Guffaluff... unless you are racing with BoP off?
He said he might do multi-class, so BoP definitely isn't an option

And if he's gonna race exclusively Nxxx class cars, I don't see why he should turn BoP on if he sees a class that's inherently well-balanced based on the Suzuka times

GT3 RS and McLaren F1 are too good in whatever class range they compete in. An N400 spec GT3 RS can scare an SF-R Concept away especially with proper tuning.

And an N700 spec McLaren F1 can hang on with the N1000 monsters quite easily.

Just my two cents, though...

In my experience, when it comes to N class racing, BoP versus no BoP just moves the goal posts on what cars dominate. I don't believe there is a "more" balanced N class, but if there were one more balanced group, I think it's N 300 with BoP on. In my opinion, and from my time trial times, they seem to be the closest to each other.

One point about BoP on versus BoP off, I prefer it on because it slows the cars down and that tends to be better for racing. And open tune N300 car can be as fast as a BoP N400 car.

Handling?

Stock, GT3RS handling is very safe and it will destroy pretty much any road car unless the track has lots of long straights. It's got better brakes than any other road car too. It's whole seconds quicker than its competition at Suzuka East (Hurracan/GTR/458 etc), and that's well under a 1 minute lap.

When you say 'open tuning', are you running power/weight changes, or just general tuning?

Stock power/weight, I would be confident of beating all bar the Veyron and F1 in a GT3RS on any track save an oval.

I was about to say that. :)

And the RS’ handling might be lairy for some, but believe me I already fell in love with it the moment I first drove it. The rear steering is what makes that car very competitive in any class range it gets in... and the shift speed of the PDK makes it accelerate as quick as an N600 level car.

Plus, I also love how it trolls the Homologation Specials...

I'm surprised no one's talking about the Gr. 3/B road cars yet as GT3 RS killers

I tend to use the first Gr. 3 road car in my garage on N class lobbies if I see a GT3 RS

They can equal the Porsche in numerous tracks, but when long straights are present, it’s game over for them particularly the Tokyo Expressway East tracks.

But yeah, totally agree that Homologation Specials are overpowered too.

Because they really aren't. With equal drivers, that GT3RS is still FAR faster. As mentioned, it really should be classified N600 rather than N500.

Sort of like a trade-off between cornering ability (not necessarily faster, but much easier to handle) and straight line speed, I guess

True to a certain point, for me. It's not that the Gr. 3 RCs are faster on corners (at par at best, but generally a tiny bit slower), but they're so much easier to handle. They handle just like a Gr. 3 car minus the snap oversteer when you step on the throttle too aggressively
The GT3 RS has a lazy feeling when cornering and it throws some people off. It's hard to feel any weight on the front wheels and even though the car is pointing at where you want it to point, it just feels like it wants to wash wide, and that's where the Gr. 3 RC's ease of use comes as an advantage

for lower N300 races, isn't the x-bow a bit OP? I mean it's light, has average power and downforce.

This being said, and all the other posts in this thread considered, I think that the old PP system was way better. It makes too many cars utterly useless. Who in their right mind would use a Raptor for anything, let alone N400 races.
Every class has it's own 911 GT3 RS
N100: The alpine 110, becomes way worse with tuning enabled
N200: the Alfa Romeo C4
N300: The X-Bow
N400: The FR-S Racing concept
N500: Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991)
N600: McLaren F1
N700: The exception that proves the rule
N800: The Vulcan
N900:...
N1000: choosing between unbelievable amounts of wheelspin vs. driving a mountain.

I know this doesn't include the dominant cars that will appear when you lower their power to put them in a N(x-y)00* class. I believe that before the Nxxxx class was a fixed vehicle race their was a N200 or N300 race which was utterly dominated with BMW M4's which where tuned. Since tire width is also not included in the performance potential index could this also be exploited using the current system. Even the PP system form GT6 is impervious to this kind of manipulation. The most fair system, which I hope will be included, is that from the Forza Motorsport franchise.

*x= original class y= an integer

X-Bow is definitely out of place for N300.

But give it more power and it will be undrivable.

The GT3 RS does have some widowmaker tendencies, but that’s how the RR layout is - front is too light and can cause understeer, yet the rear steering and wide front tires minimizes those chances of that happening. RR cars aren’t beginner friendly and I tend to make costly mistakes in the RS too.

Yes, precisely

The way I see it, if a car has 300hp, it should not be possible to use it in any other than N300, or maybe in N200 and N400 too. But with more power

Because racing without bop makes no use of the categories, at all. There's no need to talk about categories in that case.

To think that there are screenshots form early builds of the game which display PP values underneath the cars. We almost had something less terrible than the current system. This being said, its terribleness makes it quite exploitable. Case in point is a N399 X-Bow on race slicks in the dream car championship. At least 250.000 credits for ~15 minutes of work.

Let me elaborate based on my experience.

On sport tyres and abs only I see people struggling and complaining a lot about grip. Definitely there is not the feedback of being safe and easy to drive.

I also wouldn’t use Suzuka east as benchmark for this type of cars.

Anyway those using it often finish behind cars like gtr and others driven by similarly capable drivers on other cars.

Proof is that at the finish line they are often dispersed and there is no clear dominance.

On racing tyres, cars like the f1 or f40 become even easier to drive and so are valid competitors as they have very good speed and low weight.

Clearly to be very competitive you need a good setting, this is what I mean with open tuning.

However, if you leave stock suspensions gearbox etc the car is far from being the dominant in the class especially on sport tyres for the average driver. That’s why I’m saying it’s not a go to car like the beetle in gr for instance.

On BoP, it has an impact especially in n600 when turned off as some cars have significant weight advantage more than power.

N300 BOP
PD balanced it in the beta .

People seem to think The N class is balanced right off the bat .
The N classes are not balanced UNLESS BOP is enabled .

Its imposible to ballance stock cars without adjusting power / weight .

With BOP off the cars are stock and inherently nonballanced

Hoe does it? Without bop it's just a stock car. What's the point in talking about categories then?
They're still classified in specific N classes? And if the cars in that N class are already close to each other in terms of speed, then maybe he can do without BoP

I was in a lobby that was n300 with full damage, tire and fuel at 10x and 6-8 lap races. It was a ton of fun, at least one pit stop was necessary and while I would have kept the cars on street tires it was still pretty good on slicks.
