So, how can I make the GT5 online work the best?

-Turn voice chat off??
-Don't use custom tracks??

I'm open to extreme ideas to like: Kick the 'laggy guy' or 'No Premium cars/Standard Cars Only' What helps the lounges/lobbies run better?

I'd like to know ALL the ways I can make Gran Turismo 5 run smoother online.

If you want the highest efficiency possible, then turn all options to low or off (connection, voice chat) turn everything like damage off, keep the maximum car count low, and choose a short, low detail track. Although that's gonna provide pretty lousy online racing. If I were you, I'd keep the car limit at about 10, and everything else on default for the most part.
 
Don't forget these:
-- clear the internet browser cache by going into the browser, press triangle, go to tools --> clear cache
-- synchronize your trophies by entering your own user profile on the XMB menu
-- clear the PS3 cache by going into the GT5 options menu, it's in the bottom row on the left
 
A lot of people say it doesn't matter, but I switched to a Cat6 cable and it resolved almost all my problems online instantly. I was disconnecting, blackscreening all the time. After I put the cable on, I went months without an issue. Only recently has it crept back in but it seems more of a universal thing as everyone else in the room is having the same issues as I am.

This and change/check your ISP (Internet Service Provider)! Some ISP's don't offer a good enough/reliable connection. NOTE: Speed test results don't count, the numbers you see there isn't what your provider is pushing/pulling to you. I download constantly at 2.5 MB/s (anywhere), speed test shows 26 MB/s. Clearly I'm not getting those numbers in real life, there are too many factors to consider.

We should really do a master list of what Service Providers people use and how their connection is.
 
That's because you're confusing Megabits with Megabytes. ISP's and speed tests generally show connection speeds in Megabits, whereas when you download something, it is displayed in Megabytes. There are 8 bits to a byte, so 8 Megabits = 1 Megabyte.

Downloading at 2.5Mbytes per second sounds about right for a 26Mbit connection.

I have a connection at about 105Mbits per second, which means downloads run at about 13.1Mbytes per second. Speed isn't the biggest factor though, low ping times and no packet loss is what you're after.

If you go on to www.speedtest.net and change the settings (in the top right corner), you can get your internet speed to show in Megabytes as opposed to Megabits.
 
Making sure if your using a router (which I assume you are) you have all the ports open that needs to be. This can be found in the {online manual}of the game, this is what was causing most of my problems. I still can't be a host as my ISP shows me as being a great host if the hosting gets to me everyone in the room gets booted, to solve this issue I let everyone in the rooms that is the hosting gets to me I will quit room and rejoin beforehand.

You right lol, I did confuse the two. It still doesn't add up though, speed test gives me 26.65Mbits (19ms ping), that should mean I can download at 3.33Mbytes (divide by 8), I never reach 3 when downloading anything. I always top out at 2.5, once I hit 2.6. This has sparked me to do some housekeeping on my network, haven't touched a thing in over 2 years lol.

Oh ya, to the OP, mics are ok as long as they are wired, it's the wireless mics that cause the issue.
