The points system kills V8s. There is too much emphisis placed on finishing the race, and there is very little reward for making a pass. In races where you can get over 100 points for finishing in the top 8, it’s not worth risking a pass to grab a few more points.

The numbers are also way too big, seeing a gap of 70 points from first to second is insane. I can barely follow the points race, I’d hate to think how confusing it would be for the people who watch it every now and then.

Points system kills what could be a very exciting series. Bathurst makes up for all of that, though. :D

I agree. I have no idea who is winning the championship at any one time. Something like 192 points for the winner, then goes down by 6 points per place or something?

It leads to ridiculous situation like at the moment where the leader Rick Kelly is leading the championship with 1 win, and Craig Lowndes is coming second despite 5 wins and 14 or something podiums.

Did Craig Lowndes manage to win the championship this year? I followed last year's V8 Supercars action and battle between Russell Ingall and Craig Lowndes via watching highlights on this show called Max Power. Was pretty entertaining, but then agian it was highlights.

Well, this year I have followed (as in watched on TV), ranked in order of excitement:

GP2[/quite]
Gilles, me and you are alike. I also voted GP2. I started following it this year. I found that it was by far the most exciting motorsport action I've seen in a long while. MotoGP was also very good, but GP2 was something special.

Rick Kelly is currently leading the championship, with the rounds at Bahrain and Phillip Island still to go.

I'm A fan of NASCAR, it seems that most other motorsports I've watched, someone jumps very far out in the lead and it gets boring, NASCAR on the other hand, They don't get far out and there is usually a chance for every car to win.

From,
Chris.

GP2
WTCC
BTCC
NASCAR Nextel Cup
F1
IRL
ChampCar
Porsche Carrera Cup
Aussie V8
WRC
FIA GT

I really miss my GP Sundays, watching the Porsches and GP2 in the morning, followed by the F1 in the afternoon.

I have really enjoyed both seasons of GP2: somehow the formula is incredibly right. The WTCC and BTCC I admit to having a personal interest in: I've known Matt Neal for years, and I've always followed Andy Priaulx since drunkenly abusing one of his sponsors in 2000!

NASCAR Nextel I've really grown to enjoy. I seem to have developed an understanding of it, and what's happening. I've been kinda following Kasey Kahne (for no readily apparent reason), and since he's had an all/nothing season, it's been very intense. I'll almost certainly switch allegiance to Montoya next year though. Now Kahne is effectively out of the Chase I think I want Kenseth to win: that guy is amazing. But I'm stunned by the level of general crowd support Dale Jr has.
Excuse me for asking, but what TV-channels do you watch all this on? I´d very much like to know, so I can get them!
Eurosport (Champcar, WRC, WTCC, MOTOGP and just small reports from GP2, Nextel Cup, ALMS, Porsche Cup, IRL and more, but no complete races) and Viasat (F1) isn´t nearly enough!

Probably Motors TV

Motogp all the way baby:tup:
Everyone knows that cars are just bikes with training wheels. :sly:

Oh yeah, I guess that is why historically, and even today when there is a change it is usually riders, bikers (I don't know what to call them) generally move to race cars. (See Valentino Rossi, testing for Ferrari F1, and has competed in Rally now...) :sly:

Regards

RIGHT...F1 drivers don't have the skills to get on a bike and ride it! Bike to car = easy....car to bike = not easy.

Well, I obviously voted for NASCAR in this situation. It is the motorsport that I follow closely, one that I've grown up around most of my life. This season was a pretty decent one, and I think most of the deserving people got what they deserved. I was very happy with the way "The Chase" ended, as it really did come down to the last race or so to get a clear-cut winner. Better luck next-year Jr., otherwise my boy Tony Stewart may have to make up for some lost ground...

As for the other sports, well, I'd love to say that I watch and follow them, but I simply don't. Without SPEED, my automotive racing is pretty much limited to what ABC/ESPN, FOX Sports, CBS, and NBC/TNT decide to carry. That pretty much limits itself to NASCAR, IRL, maybe an ALMS race or two, and thats about it.

...Don't get me wrong, I love AMLS (go Team Corvette!), but with my limited viewing, I really can't classify it as all-too exciting...

I've voted 'other', because the most spectacular sport in my opinion, is european rallycross, but almost nobody knows about it... 3 to 6 production cars (div1: 2050cc, turbocharged +500hp 4wd), racing a few laps door to door on mixed asphalt/dirt tracks...

see www.pitstoptv.blogspot.com , and then the 'rallycross' movies, or check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_dlYtP587g, or http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid348382041/bclid376898542/bctid377215166

hope you like this kind of motorsport
