McCaw has some amazing cars in his collection. I went to a Concours d'Elegance in Kirkland 10 years ago, and the McCaws had a ton of stuff there, worth tens of millions of dollars. This car must be the cherry on top :).

I super duper hope that color looks better in real life because it looks like a sweet tart in that picture.

Cannot... handle.... the win... from... last... two.... posts....!!!!!

But seriously, a red 250 GTO is so boring, red Ferraris are always boring to me.

$35 million? Who the HELL would pay that much for a CAR?! I mean I love cars but If I had that much money, I wouldn't buy one for that much.

Pfft. $35m?

Took probably a few hours to paint... not even that unique (there are four versions) and I could probably paint it in my sleep. $120m.

Of course... if I had that much money... Munch would be second on my list... after M.C.Escher...

Of course it's a Ferrari. I think Ferrari holds the top 5 spots in the Most expensive cars in the world category. And I believe the last one was a 250 California...nice to see the original GTO there, though.

I can't imagine any Ferrari being boring to me if I were behind the wheel, no matter what color it is!

It's an investment, the same way someone would buy 35$m in shares in a certain company/sector. The problem is, the classic car market is in a bubble right now, with values rising daily as other markets/currencies are in too much flux for many investors. There is a ceiling, and we are approaching it fast.

There are four versions of The Scream, but you'd rather have an Escher, whose work has be reproduced in the millions and displayed in every college dorm room on Earth?

Cheaper, right?

I'd actually like to purchase the original woodcuts or lino-cuts, if they were ever for sale... but I doubt I could ever afford them...

Last I knew about this absurdity of high prices, the all-out winner was the First Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, AX201, wich is un-insured valued at 57 million bucks.

Imagine the insurance policy on that thing.

You'd be surprised, classic car insurance can actually be cheap because the insurers know the car isn't going to driven a lot, most owners are going to be extremely careful driving it and most classic cars aren't reliable enough to go very far to be involved in an accident!

GTO drivers tend to race their cars pretty regularly, despite their huge value. 22 of the 39 total cars (including this green one) were hammering it out on Laguna Seca last summer at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. I think storing the car and showing it once every year is the exception for 250GTO owners.

We are talking about a 35.000.000 $ car, yes, red would be boring. :D

Cars should be driven, so I like the fact GTO owners do it.

But imagine if it indeed got totaled by freak chance.

That would be one fat check.

I'm glad that they are actually being raced and aren't being shut away. They were after all, designed to be race cars, not little automotive art pieces for some rich guy to buy and put in his garage because it looks nice.
