Most inappropriate and annoying AI behaviour

I know there are multiple threads about the inadequacies of the GT7 AI. I wanted to open this thread to explore what the most important fixes should be within the limitations of the current system.

So imo the key problems are:
  • complete disregard for players car in corners. The AI simply turns in, even if you are ahead and in the way
  • dive bombing
  • hard braking in corners where it is inappropriate and unnecessary, f.e. in Sardegna and Mount Panorama
  • disregard for blue flag when you are lapping the AI. The AI just blocks you or rams you in a corner

I just try to list the silliest stuff that needs fixing first.
Do you agree with this list? Anything that should be there as well?

1: Is wrong, it doesn't always behave that way, it's more the exception than the rule, usually it happens when you are not on the racing line, you brake to early or the AI is fighting another car.
2: See 1
3: It brakes early on several corners on every track, but it's the same corners and the behavior is very predictable.
4: There is a blue flag? The AI wouldn't know since it's colorblind and sticks to it's racing line no matter what happens.

5: Forgot to add this, the AI cars are in general "heavy" or "sticky" they aren't easy to push off the road. A clear choice made by PD to make them harder to destroy.

I made this video that imho is a typical representation of how the AI behaves:

@Sven Jurgens is the real expect on the AI and he could write a book about it (and point out where i am wrong)

I don't see any problems with the AI, but I'm sure a lot of players who have problems with the AI just generally expect the AI to drive defensively. That's exactly what I don't expect from the AI though... the AI even drives very predictably without taking a fighting line or something... if you drive "badly" and try to brake the AI in corners, you'll have to live with it shot down to become. I've also never seen dive bombs from the AI...

Yes, what you could criticize.. if you turn on a track and the car is on the ideal line, then the AI just slams into you.. here it would be nice if the vehicles "ghosted" like in sport mode.

The heavy braking before corners is perfectly ok, predictable AND helps the AI to overtake.

About the AI "disregard for blue flag", you can try to enable racing line, and you'll observe that AI does yield when they have seen a blue flag.

Where "yield" I mean they do deviate from normal racing line, I don't mean they have any idea about the position of the car going to overtake them 🤣

So it's quite likely that you are not driving on the optimum line (going to overtake them or keeping your tire wet), but the AI are, what they do next instant is leaving the line to "yield" to the overtaker, and slams into you ...

Just always race the AI on the Nordschleife, they literally park their car on the side and even use their indicator to let you through. It's really annoying if you want to actually race

The mid corner braking for no good reason always pisses me off. Other than that I can live with the shonky driving most of the time.

One thing I've noticed is that the AI will more often than not fight back almost immediately after being passed. I've made very clean passes, only for the AI to attempt to re-pass me in the middle of the corner, or will simply blow the next one due to being over-aggressive.

Not the BEST, example, but I made a clean pass on the outside AND gave plenty of room in case the BMW tried to stick his nose in. Instead, he just floors it over the sausage curb, and hits me.

Biggest issue for me is when they move about on the straights or even worse in braking zones, both just cause crashes. They seem to be about as dirty as they were in GT Sport when it comes of pit moves and running you off the track, as for the divebombing stuff that's been around since they tried to make the AI quicker back in GT6 - I'm sure some people will remember the 700PP seasonal events where you spent more time looking behind yourself.

Perfect example of no regard for etiquette. Fast Forward to 10:10. I made a pass for the lead and the AI didn’t like it. P2 poured on the speed and the CSL suddenly gave chase as well. I went in too hot, slightly off line for the chicane. The AI… the video explains the rest. We crossed the line to start the lap, just as time ran out(hence why no other cars are behind us).

Old thread, I know, but the issue is still there.

The AI seems, to me at least, to be rather malleable in its good or bad behaviour.
One example is the yellow Chevrolet GT3 car.
I've heard and read many people complaining that it is an aggressive menace, and have seen that side.
Trade paint with it and it will come after you, it used to shoulder charge me off track on corners many times.

But I've noticed something interesting.
In one the Spa 1hr race I was conserving fuel to try to do one stop.
The yellow peril came up from behind, and instead of defending the position, I indicated for it to pass and it did. Later in the race the reverse situation occurred, I approached, flashed to indicate my intention to pass, and it moved aside and gave me the corner.
There were several other cars right behind me, and the chev actively weaved to block them to my advantage, before letting them pass.
This has happened on 3 other occasions since.

I have read that, unlike Sophy, it is not heuristic, so this sudden turn around is curious.

I use same tactic with all the cars, being as clean and respectful as I would with a human driver, yet they still behave like feral cats.

Seems I've made a friend 😍

I've also never seen dive bombs from the AI...
From one of the weekly special events at RBR......I was the only human controlled car....

Edit:

Adding a full race with the AI on hard (although I suspect this was a fixed chilli pepper difficulty)

The JGTC Special Event

As you can see the AI apart from the P1/2 Mclaren raced fairly and would re pass me etc it was only when I was trying to pass the Mclaren that he was aggressive.

I think a lot of it stems from the player and their expectation and impatience in some situations.

The insanely slow entry speeds and wicked exits are silly, like come on guys. At fuji last week in the super formula I was gaining 2 seconds into T1 alone but then on exit they were smoking me. So odd.
