I'm pretty sure this hasn't been done yet, but anyway. The name says it all... In your opinion, which band was the most influential of their respective genre? Which band took their genre to different levels and inspired many others?

Edit: Yes, artists are allowed...

Most influencial Rock and Roll band, and by extension everything that spawned out of Rock and Roll (Alternative, Grundge, Metal):

The Beatles.

Who were influenced by Chuck Berry. Chuck Berry, if an artist is allowed. He is the God of rock and roll, which is now 50 years old.

Then, it would be the Beatles, Jimi Hendricks, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Metallica, Nirvana then Korn. Perhaps, Green Day, since so many copy bands spawned off of their idea.

50 Cent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111

Edit: For the alternative genre i'd have to suggest the Pixies, as being a major influence for allot of bands.

Run DMC - they spawned some of the best rappers and some of the worst rappers 👍

Beethoven - The Father of Heavy Metal

emad - you should know that as you have Yngwie J Malmsteen as your avatar

And Beethoven was heavily influenced by Mozart. I should have said him, but didn't.

rotfl. I just realized how much influence he had on Metal. Go check out Symphony X. You'll be amazed how many classical scores they implement into their music 👍

From what I know, Slayer (Show No Mercy) and Metallica (Kill Em All) are, they were the first two artist to start with Metal. Thats what I read from a magazine. Don't remember whitch one

Slayer and Metallica did not start metal. They brought it to new levels, sure, but they did not start metal. There is much debate over who started Metal, but I will not get into that here.

I would say the most influential music band/artist of all time would be Chuck Berry. As it was said before, he influenced The Beatles, who brought Rock and Roll to new heights. As Mike Rotch said before, all band genres (Metal/Rock/Punk/Alternative/etc) wer spawned from Rock and Roll, and as hose genres, along with Rock and Roll, have been some of the most popular for years now, I would say that the Father of Rock and Roll deserves this title.

You can't really do such a broad survey. If you really wanted to be correct, it would have to be CRuxZorg the Caveman, who smashed heavy objects together, in a certain order.

If this thread was about "who influenced the Beatles", it would be Elvis. There were bunch other artists, that Beatles were huge followers of. They were Chuck Berry(most popular choice in this thread), Roy Orbinson, Buddy Holly and I could swear they said they were influenced by James Brown, but I could be wrong on that one. This is the list I remember off top of my head, so I probably missed few (great)artists.

As for the most influential band, the Beatles. 👍

Edit: The first part of this post might make sense, only if you read the first page of this thread. :)
