Most Popular Game Ever

The Sims is often touted as the most popular (selling the most copies anyway) computer game ever. Is it just me, or are the ones doing the counting forgetting completely about Windows Solitaire and Minesweeper. Those have sold millions upon millions of copies.

Heh, I like your quote.

IMO, Half Life is the most popular. I had the GameSpy client open the other day and there were over 90,000 users playing Half Life (Counter-Strike, most likely) online. The closest game to that was Battlefield 1942 with a measly 4,000 users.

Something must have been wrong with their charts or something. Soldier of Fortune 2 and Battle Field 1942 have way more than 4,000 online at any given time.

I think that gamespy only shows gamespy users, that could be why the numbers are distorted. Counter-strike does have a player base of over a million people though, but so does the Sims, and so, returning to the subject of the thread, does solitaire/minesweeper.

Doesn't Solitaire and Minesweeper come standard with all Windows computers? So technically, it isn't sold as a separate game, and therefore can't get more than 0 copies of the actual game sold...I think that's how it works... Damn I just confused myself.

...Well yeah, but technically, Windows solitare and minesweeper are sold (along with computers).

A very long time ago, well not so long, I read that Starcraft is the most popular/most bought/most hours spent being stared at by mindless idiots (including me). Now about 4-5 years after this, I read that Counter-Strike is the best (which can cover a number of things) multiplayer game of all-time, with Half-Life of course being just... the best. I mean come on. If you go to www.gameoftheyear.com, it's the official page for Half-Life. That's how much Sierra is gloating for making this game and receiving all these awards.
