Hello ...

My name is Werner and I'm verry interested , to make a easy motion system , for my Race-Car Simulator in the next time.
( 2 axes to use whif Playstation2 )

Has somebody experiences whif a self made motion system ?
How did You control it ? ( Pod's or a oter Sensor ? )

I'm thankful for every suggestion !!!

Im hope, here are any fuss-pot's in this Forum .

What do You think, is it a good idea ???

If You like, you can see any of my finished ( self made ) accessories on my Hompage :

Werner

Ps. : That's my Race-Car Simulator , but it's not finish jet .

From what I know, the latest momo wheel is twice as expensive as the Logitech GT Force.

And Logitech recently came up something like a mounting cage for the wheel and a car seat.......go here, you will see it. I don't have a price on that. Not sure if it will even go for sale.

I know, at least with the latest US issued GT Force wheel, there are some known bugs. Apparently it will glitch and alltogether stop functioning randomly. Also, there's another racing cage out, can't remember who makes it, but it's got a Corbeau seat with I'm not sure what kind of wheel and pedal combo, might've been the Momo.. I was about to go out and buy the newest Logitec wheel, (I really never knew there was a predacessor to it), but have decided to wait until they get the bugs worked out of it. Just some stuff to consider.. Oh, and once again, Werner, your simulator rocks!!!!! You want to sell me a shifting mechanism :D

Sell this to sony!

Sell this idea to sony sure you will get loads of money for it!

Gimmie 10% for this idea :)

SWEET! Man, that rocks, tell me how to make it.

Hello...

Sorry my english is not the best !!!

signifies please the word : rocks

I can't to translate into German !

Ps. my Shifter is easy to rebuild !
In my new Controler, I have insert Reed-Sensors !
They switch whif a magnetic field ( a solid-state Switch )

And the new layout from the Servo-controler is verry small whif sparse components .
See the Photo !

Hello Simon Tibbett

The black box whif the 6 coloured Push Buttons, is only a box whif swap out Push Buttons !!! hi hi

But the other Black box , whif the round slice , is a Controler for my Servo-controled Direct gear selector !

Whif this item , I can change gears, direct to any wished Gear whif one touch ( Such as a authentic Car ! )

It dont Shift direct in the Software !

It Shift self-controlled to the wished Gear ,
whif the up and down Push Buttons circuit 's from the Joystick or any Wheel.

The Servo close the up and down Push Buttons circuit 's
so often, up to the wished Gear.

My modify GT-Force Wheel has 6 plugs linked with the Push Buttons circuts in the wheel .
So I can to plug in my selfmade accessory

Hiya Werner,
Glad ya made the trip over here. That shift system ya came up with is very sweet. Hadent seen the sim yet.
Oh yeah,
Rocks = very nice! :D

Thank You verry much, for the translation !!!

I'm hope, my englich is articulate vor You !

Here is a nice place to learn for my !!!

Best wishes from Germany
Werner

What's up Werns? Looks like this is the place to be:D

Anyway, from my research, I don't think you're gunna find any motion platforms under $10,000(at least a good one). If you do, please tell me where it is. I'm still waiting for these guys to tell me the price on this one...

CyberBase1.gif

that chair looks like it uses hydraulics. gonna be pricey....
but damn .looks sweet as hell. and major props to werner for his homemade kit! (major props = lots of aknowledgment) i think i spelled that right 😈

Hello Isamu

It's nice to catch You here !!!

My problem is not the mecanic !

I have two high power Robot- modules for a 2 axes motion platform .
one linear modul , for up and down, or sideways motion ,
and one rotary modul .

I'm surge for a Sensor , that can to analyse the current speed in the game !
To make a difference , how powerful the engines must work .

If I'm control the engines only whif Pod's , follow the engines only the angles from Wheel or brake / accelerator pedal .

I have see'n on GTjunky's Hompage, a interesting Item, that can analyse the speed on the basis of the audio frequency !
( It is a tachometer for Video-Games )

In this moment I'm only surge for information .
This thing will to be, good prepare !

I have to assemble lage industry Robot's ( RGB's ) for any time.
But I have only the basic knowledge on this area .

So long
Werner

Thats my two Robot modules.

Hi Werner. Am I missing something here or doesn't the game have to be programmed to send outputs to the steering, seat hydraulics etc. like a flight simulator or arcade machine? I'm presuming GT3 can't give these signals...

...or is there some other way?

Well im just guessing here but probly the input/ output force feedback to the steering wheel would tilt the motion system left and right, and the accelerator/ brake would tilt the sim forward and back. Then again, i could be fool of crap. lol

Hi Werner, great ideas you have!
One other possibility for inputs would be the vibration functions in the duel shock. Running over curbs could take on a whole new meaning

In Japan (2 years ago I visited), in the real arcade.....i mean the room with lots of machines and you have to put coins in, those ARCADE, not the GT3 arcade. They do have something like that for the Daytona 1 & 2 and the Sega Rally. In some regions of the world (like mine, Hong Kong) it's not legal having that in the Arcade business. You know, the seat moves back and forth and sideways when you brake, accelerate, steer.......etc.

Playing Daytona and Sega Rally were the reasons I had to get a Saturn. They're both still fantastic arcade games, even after all these years! :D

Ah hah so this is where you have all run off to. Werner could you get the acceleration info from the audio cues? Maybe the side to side off another pot on the steering wheel?

Hello GTjunkie

I have seen vor any time , a verry interesting tachometer
(whif LED's ) for games , on Your nice hompage !!!
By my last surge on Your Hompage , I'm located , only a other whif a support to a Sound Card !

Do You have a construction plan from this tachometer ?
Or do You know from a other , whif support to TV- Audio ,
or whif a microphone ?

I'm think, whif this Item, i can after a little modify , calculate the current speed in GT-3 .

This information , I can to annex wif the other information's from the current Wheel angle .

The controler from the Robot can be programmed to use the sensors and the output to the motor .

Sorry ! whif the word : Pod
I mean a potentiometer .

Hi Werner see if this
works
http://www.velleman-kit.com/Product.asp?lan=1&id=341513
This what I plan to use for the rev lights, it responds to different frequencies and is adjustable. With this an a few neon 110VAC mini bulbs in green yellow and red from Radio Shack should make a nice rev indicator. This could possibly feed your motion needs also.

Hello GTjunkie

That's it is !!!

I'm sometimes stupidly !
I'm think a matchable Item , I become here in Germany .

Thanks a million

Now I'm one step near, to achieve my ends

All best wishes from Germany
Werner

motion platforms are a lot more than just hydrolics under a chair. the hard part would be trying to program something that would know how to simulate an extended period of acceleration. there are plenty of tricks to do simulate this though, i think i saw one once on tv that was used for car simulations.
also i would imagine that hydrolics would be a pain to work with, not to mention messy at times.
as far as imput, i don't know what all the PS2 sends to the controler other than dualshock... so i would think you would have to find some way of getting the info from the expansion bay (???)... :: shrugs ::
it certainly would be an awesome site if someone managed to do this, but it seems like it'd be far more expensive than it'd be worth when you could just find someone that does it for a living and beg them until they let you play on it. ^_~

later

I personally wouldn't use hydrualics anyway, good and solid but not particularly practical for home use :) The other two 'main' options would be pneumatics or servos - forget servos for the price! So that would lead to pneumatics, so you'll need a compressor and a reasonably sized air reciever for a start.... Two 3 position valves, one for forward/back and one for left/right. Now then, presumably you will want proportional control again, up goes the cost.... the rest I leave up to you Werner, I'm sure you can build a simple D/A convertor to give you the proportional control? :D Its not going to be cheap...

There again if you can get a cheap hydraulic powerpack chances are you won't care about your carpet anyway :D

very true, hadn't thought about pneumatics. but are they noisy?
heh, can you imagine if someone actually managed to pull something like this off? they could probably get themselves a job pretty much anywhere that works with this kind of stuff.

Thats a drawback with pneumatics, you would need a compressor, suppose you could hide it elsewhere? In the garage?

Hydraulics/Pneumatics are easy enough to work with, like I say you could do the whole lot with 2 control valves, and the circuit would be simple. The tricky bit would be converting the forcefeedback signal to analogue for the valves, and getting a realistic feel to it, s'pose you would also want to convert some of the acceleration/braking signals too, so you felt like you were being pushed back in the seat when accelerating?

Anyway.....

Sega Rally MOTION SIMULATOR

This is it. I was in one of those cars. In front, there was a projector screen. Inside the car(Mit. EVO), I had to wear seat belt. The cars rocked like crazy in the race!! and they were 1:1 size too!!! Oh you could also have a friend to sit in the passenger
seat.
