That's a good find, I'll give you the win on that.
I have the pictures I took of the test and E. Pirro was the driver, we were told it was the first time running by the commentary team and was a big surprise of it showing up.
I didn't even know Pirro had any ties to McLaren at all during his career!

Pirro was the main McLaren test driver in 1987-88, and he probably gave the original McLaren-Honda combo it's first run, but that would have been at Suzuka.

Yep, that's the answer. Your turn.

I think we're out, the questions stemmed from my "temp" question while @SJC ALPHA wasn't responding. And I got the answer, it was Damon Hill in 1999 who was the last champion who failed to qualify (France) :)

As it stands we're on @SJC ALPHA's question which I believe Daan has taken the win for ;)

This is probably moot now, but Damon Hill was allowed to start that race despite failing to meet the 107% mark. I wouldn't have counted that as failing to qualify.

Moot indeed... but he failed to qualify although he was allowed to start the race... the question was about who failed to qualify :D

Who is the only man to design the cars that won both the F1 World (drivers) Championship and the Indy 500 in the same year?

Well no it wasn't. Fernando Alonso failed to set a lap time within 107% in the 2015 Brazilian GP

Colin Chapman and 1965
Well, yes, but I seem to have missed a very important part of the question. I thought the man I'm looking for was the only one, but the man in question is the only man to do it twice.

Sorry about that.
Adrian Newey?
No.

My first thought was John Barnard.
No.

Jack Brabham seems likely to me but then again so does Colin Chapman.
No.

So, the correct question is...

Who is the only man to design the cars that won both the F1 World (drivers) Championship and the Indy 500 in the same year, and to do so twice?

Bruce McLaren in 1972?

Emerson Fittpaldi won the drivers title in F1 and Mark Donohue won the Indianapolis 500 in a McLaren chassis.

And obviously:
Colin Chapman and 1965

EDIT: Oh wait, Bruce died in 1970... it's still his car though.

Gordon Murray.
Nope.

Gordon Coppuck, for 1976
Yep, Coppuck is correct for 1974 and 1976.

Emmo won in a Lotus. And the 76 car was designed by Coppuck.

A pecadillo I spotted on Wiki. There may be more than one correct answer to this; I'll take the first one.

At which track are the two lap records held by unrelated drivers with the same surname?

Belgian GP - Ralf and Michael Schumacher :)

There can only be 1 lap record per track. 2 drivers can attain the same time, but there is only 1 lap record time.

Now, it could possibly be different configurations of track, and if it is then we need clarification, but if that is the case then it's probably going to be Graham and Phil Hill.
