As far as I remember, J.W.Automotive was the only team with gulf sponsorship so I don't remember them sponsoring a Aston Martin DBR1 from 1959 or the GT40s from 66 & 67

Correct. THe Ford GT40 was actually built by Lola and the Shelby Cobra is just an AC cobra with a Ford 427 V8 engine dropped in it. Now its your turn to ask a question.

I didn't think the AC Cobra was born until the V8 was put in. Before that it was the AC Ace?

The AC Cobra was built in 66, then came Shelby's version specifically modified to fit the Ford V8 inside at the request of Carroll Shelby himself. The ace was seperate car.
 
Actually, Shelby made it the Cobra by coming up with the idea of fitting a 260.c.i. V8 into a AC Ace. AC made the chassis and bodies etc then shipped them to Shelby who then fitted the engines.

The GT40 was originally based on the Lola Mk6. Lola (Eric Broadley) who designed the Mk6 helped a team of Ford guys design the GT40. It was then built in England by FAV because it was mainly to be run in European races.

So yes, the Cobra and GT40 were built mostly in Britain.

Actually Jackington is close enough, The engine from the BMW 328 was, for want of a better word, 'stolen' from BMW after WWII and used in Bristol and Frasier Nash cars. AC then used it in their cars, including the Ace which would then become the Cobra.
 
I should've brought up this thread with a little preparation. :lol: Umm... In the 1964 Tasman Series, how many podiums did Jack Brabham score and what car did he use?
