 nice video, shame about the rain

How are you finding this exhaust setup? It's dinan with Super-Sprint pipes right? I was speaking to another M5 owner a few days ago, who's got the same setup and he's looking to change it, finds this setup too mechanical is what he said  he's looking to switch to an Eisenmann setup with the Super-Sprint pipe, the only thing that's holding him back is that it will set him back around £1,000-£2,000.

I sort of like the rain, lets the rear a little loose :P . I have no current intentions of changing my exhausted setup, and probably the only other way I'd have it is with the FMU exhaust but I really like how it sounds and there are much more important things to do before that kind of mod.

 yep 45 seconds in, never really heard much about the FMU exhaust, gonna check it out.

EDIT: Here's a quick video i found, one on the left has a FMU exhaust and Xpipe, I kinda like the deeper tone.

Yeah it sounds a little deeper plus it looks nice and shiny

Yes the V8 E39s all have double VANOS If I'm not mistaken.
EDIT: It seems VANOS was added in 1998 for the M62 and the S62 is the one that got double VANOS

My dad and me put the plastic underside piece on today:
Got it lifted and put some bricks on the rear jack support just in case, even though it's very solid

Final result, looks great.

While bolting it up I noticed I'm gonna need a fender liner in the near future so I'll keep that in mind before throwing money at less important things.

Changed the stickers on the wheels, noticed that the new ones are a little more shiny looking than the OEM ones but no matter

Also changed a signal bulb that was out, had to take out the light assembly and a bolt fell, which sucks but 3 out of 4 bolts hold it very steadily so for now until I get the next part it stays like that

one of the stickers fell out so I have to get a new one :( at least they're somewhat cheap (Expensive for a sticker)

So, today I did one of the big items on the list and the last of the really important ones that affect driveability, the Headlight adjusters.
I took about 4 hours of work, this being the first time I did it, and it was with help from my dad. I must say it was wirth it as now I can see the road much better (Still have to adjust them a bit) and the lights don't rattle around when i take some uneven roads. Now for some pics:
Romved the headlights:

baked them to get the rubber seals weak and open them (Baked at the end to close):

There were bits of the old adjusters all over the headlight

After I did the first one I noticed it looked a little cleaner (Lighting in the pictures exaggerates it a bit)

Compared height levels with the M3

and Here's a pic I took today at a shopping center, set of 5 car alarms while getting to the top floor, not even trying to do so

Nice work mate, those adjusters are a pain to replace on certain models

The headlight in the oven picture is great

I was going somewhat fast the other day and then when I got to my destination a friend noticed that the plastic panel from the other side of the one I had replaced came off. I replaced it a couple of days ago, couple of pics (The install was the same as the other):

The parts on the underside of the bumper take a lot of abuse and they were taped up by the previous owner since they already had some cracks. They've recieved a couple more hits and since they are 100 bucks a pop I decided to just tape them up for now and leave it for when the bigger priorities are done with.

Doesn't look like tape from afar and a different angle

Small update:
Removed front window tint, much better visibility at night, no ugly lines, bubbles or tears and now I can use my polarized sunglasses which give me better visibility.

They had this cool harlequin replica at the place I went to get the tint removed

On another note, the IS may sell this week, which means the M5 might get some more love in the coming months, nothing big for now though.

Made a video today, a day in the life of an M5 owner

 but honestly how is the MPG for inner city driving? loving that Euro mag, some definite questionable modifications there. That Golfs got some clean looking panels too 👍

I'm getting around 13 mostly city  but I don't drive much so it's about 50 liters a week. I'm sure if I hold myself back (Very hard) and drive in highway I could break 20 but yeah that's not happening for now  to compare, the IS250 was getting about 18 in the same commute and I could get about 26-28 in that in highway.

I can't keep my foot out of it in the M3 either, and I have 2 fewer cylinders! The power is just so smooth and the noise is awesome. Good to hear you're having fun with yours too!

(I'm averaging about 20 mpg in mine right now... it should be way higher)

I feel you, if it didn't have the dinan LSD (3.45 i think) I would probably be getting more as well, but that extra torque is great 👍 Yeah those straight 6s are quite smooth in power delivery

If you go at it decently lightly, you should be able to hit 24 mpg on the highway.

Yeah That sounds achievable, my dad's E92 does low 20s on highway and that is at like 3K revs at 60, mine is a bit over 2500 IIRC

Had some fun today, nothing too excessive

The IS is almost sure to sell by Saturday and I'll get back almost all the cash spent in the M5, there won't be much updates for now though, but expect some body detailing and some other small bits in the summer

Danke 👍
So the IS sold, sort of bitersweet, but takes a load off. The M3 has a new garage mate

As for the E39 not much new really, finally gave it a good wash and I must say I love how it looks nice and washed (Sorry for crappy pics)

Also today after a drive a sway bar bracket broke just as I was getting into the garage, guess entering it sideways made it twist and break. It was on its way out anyway and at ~5 bucks a pop I guess I'll change both

Haven't up dated Because I ran into some VANOS problems and haven't Been Able to use the car at all in the last 2 weeks. I'll update by early next week hopefully with all the details and some extra bits I got.
