Mount Panorama/Bathurst

Bathurst is a great track but honestly I feel a little like it is spoiling GT6. Being in Australia obviously makes the problem worse, but you often simply can not get a race at any other track. I have to search through pages of rooms only running bathurst. It gets old fast..

Apologies, but I feel if the mountain get's old fast, you aren't doing it right...Australias top drivers have done countless laps on it, and still hold it as the hardest place to master a full lap... even forgetting the countless professional international drivers that hold it as one of the best.

That I agree to, I can also see how the Mountain could quickly get old in GT6, since it looks good visually, but completely underwhelms in terms of feeling the elevation changes, numerous bumps and dips the real thing has.

I know I'm gonna get chewed out for it... I understand the history and respect everything that this track offers... but I don't particularly enjoy racing on it... I'm not sure why... I think sometimes I look at that track and just wonder why some of those turns are designed like that...

I think it's the best model of bathurst to date. Layout and elevation feel spot on!

I was getting there but you beat me to it with the video I would of posted :)

So here is another, Brock getting a hotlap from Brad Jones.

That video is great, I love how relaxed Jones is, talking and laughing while speeding around the track, that's brilliant!! 👍 Thanks for posting that!

Just watched a video on YouTube, that does look good! I don't think it's much different to the GT6 model though. The sound is amazing though! (off topic)
Like I said, looks-wise it's not different. iRacing physics, though, completely transform the track and make it very challenging.

It is a circuit that I don't think I would like when I first drove it.

But then, I got into the Subaru Impreza WRX STI NBR Challenge Package (people should REALLY try this car, it's awesome!) and decided to give it a spin. The car, combined with the track added up to an experience I've long missed in GT or any racing game for that matter.

It was heaven, doing rounds, everytime going a little bit faster around the corners, taking chances, sometimes failing yet many times succeeding. Driving faster than I ever did before. I couldn't stop doing it and in fact it became one of my favourite circuits because it made me a better driver ever since.

Not only is it beautiful to behold, it has a great flow to it. It's fast yet technical, but it doesn't punish you for everything. It's forgiving but challenging to master. It invites you.

Really, try the combination of the car I gave you with this circuit. You will know what I mean!

I have driven there many times back in the day ( when I was still a student more than 10 years ago  - drove many turbo imports ) I say the GT6 version is pretty damn good :)

Here is my lap there with Diablo GT 600HP on street tires - GT6 of course :D

Hadn't even heard of the track this time two years ago, now it's one of my favorites. Why? As you stated, it's got a lot of high speed straight sections, and a fun technical section. Just the way I like my tracks.

It is just a circuit that has it all. Straights for some great speed, and the corners just flow so nice.

^Absolutely amazing that this record has stood for 10 years now. Such an awesome lap!

Rules were changed for the next season outlawing special lightweight internals for engines in the interests of reigning in costs. Engine development was then choked even further my the gradual introduction of more and more control componentry like camshafts. The engines have not had the same top end power since. It was a great lap, but there are other reasons why it has stood for this long.

For those that don't know, it never used to have "The Chase" section on Conrod Straight either. That was put in to curb the speed that cars were carrying into the final corner... not to mention the 70's era brakes at the end of a lap!

It's now one of the most interesting parts of the circuit, not often the do things like that and end up making the track better!

I also think it may have been added to comply with the FIA rule of no straight longer then 2km, as according to GT6 the straight is just over 1900m.

Also with the speed they where carrying over the second hump, The cars where getting airborne which ultimately ended up claiming the life of Mike Burgman. But as demonstrated by Len Cave in 2008 or Fabian Coulthard in 2010 it's still a very dangerous part of the track.

^ He (the Bundy car) juuuuust touches the rear left on the dirt before that extra bit of tarmac that comes out past the line and around he went!

It's the line you take in the game without giving it a second thought, just fading to the outside to try and open up the corner, but when doing at the highest speed part of the track it obviously can have a serious impact on stability. Something the game doesn't really reflect.

For those interested, here's Jenson Button doing a lap in his McLaren F1 car.
I remember they were a little worried about going through the dipper and if the car would bottom out!

Look how late he brakes into Griffins Bend!

If I'm not mistaken, Coulthard had a tire let go at the entrance to The Chase. Scary thing to happen at the fastest part of the entire track.

Also a video of Bathurst from 1984 with Denny Hulme driving. Note how little the track have change since other than the addition of The Chase, which have made Bathurst even more challenging.

All good points. They interviewed Craig Lowndes after he beat the time in practice a couple of years ago and he said he wished he had the horsepower that Murph had!

Admittedly it's not all about horsepower and current cars are lighter but it obviously makes a big difference around mount panorama
