All mountainbikers (or non bikers) are welcome to discuss bike, parts, movies, everything about MTB!

My interest for monutainbiking started a couple of days ago actually, when I was watching the Bike Guide at the Extreme Channel. I was just AMAZED how they handle a bike.
So I went down with my friends to a local ramp and started hanging 'n' chillin' *lol*
(the end) :)

You're more than welcome to post any pics and vids!
Welcome!

I worked with a guy that could do damn near anything on a bike. He worked part-time at a store that sold bikes and parts and went to competitions for them. He always had the newest of everything. I believe he had hydraulic brakes at least 6 years ago, and also had the lightest non-racing bike I've ever ridden. He didn't care what happened to the bike because if he broke anything, short of bending the frame every other week, it would just get replaced. Then he quit working with me and became the regional traveling salesman for Oakley. Some guys ahve all the luck, huh?

They sure have. But real hardcore MTB's cost minimum 1600$ for a cheap one. I got mine for about 500$( Scott Mx-5 Voltage). It's a hardtail which leads me to the next question: Hard-Tail or rear suspension? I prefer hard-tail because there lighter.

I havn't ridden a full-suspension bike enough to give you an input on that one. My current ride is a GT Outpost. My wife bought it for me before we were married. She went to the bike shop and told them "I don't know anything about bikes except for what he told me he likes. What do you suggest?" They asked her what I wanted: brand, brakes, etc. Whatever she didn't know, they showed her the difference between the options and told her what they would choose and why. Sounded like they were really cool to work with. After the bike was ready, we went over to pick it up. The guy behind the counter asked if he could help us. My wife said "I want to show my husband his new bike." The guy asked what the name was, and before we could tell him, another guy comes around the corner and says he'll take care of it because he knew which one it is. The first guy asks "Which one is it?" "The blue GT." "Oh, that one. Nice."

That'll make you feel pretty good. I'll try to get a pic or 2 up tonight. Sorry for how long this got, btw. :)

I mtb alot last summer, I was at the local dirt jumps and the downhill trails every weekend. These last few years mtb has exploded in BC being that there is alot of great companys here (norco, rocky mountain, .243 racing) and now the mtb street scene is starting to take shape. Check this site www.idun.tv watch some of their vids, this is the newest part of biking. There is also a tv show that started up here called Drop In, www.dropin.pinkbike.com Every summer they gather a bunch of pro or amature mtbikers and head out on a road trip around BC and alberta kinda like the famous road fools. Its been getting pretty crazy around here. A few years back this biker (josh bender) did a 45-60ft drop about 15 mins away from my house heres a pic

Ive been to check this place out a few times he didnt land it but trying sumthin like 11 times came close a couple.

I've got a dual shock orange bike, with that angry squiral mascot. I love it and had it for 5 years. pics if you want.

I've got an '01 Kona Scab w/ Bomber Z1 Wedge's. I started riding seriously in 2001, but don't go out too often anymore. Unfortuneatly, the area around me has gotten boring, as I do not like skateparks, etc. There is a large area about an hour and a half (by bike) away, so I don't go there too often. I hope to get up to Mt. Washington ski area next summer, do some downhill.

I was hardcore into Cross-Counrty MTB racing and singletrack riding from 1996-2001 or so. My new job for the past 3 years doesn't allow me enough time in the daylight since I work nights from 7PM to 7AM 12 hr shifts. When I was riding I would go at least 3-4 days a week for fun and or to train if I had a race coming up, and now I am just really discouraged since I can't ride like I want to. I still go when I can and hope to go hardcore again when I can get off this crappy nightshift...I'm just always tired now if I manage to get up during the day:indiff:

Here's a couple of pics, one of me at a race, and one of my current bike. The bike I purchased as a bare frame and hand-picked each part for optimum wieght / durability, then assembled it all myself except for installing the headset bearing, which reqiures a special press at the bike shop. It took me about a year and a half to buy all the pieces as the total cost was $3200, but I had other bikes to ride while I was building this one. The total weight as it sits is 20.65 lbs. Since I finished it about 3 years ago, there have been several new parts that have come out which I could exchange to easily get it sub-20, especially the tires, seat and handlebars, and rear cassette. If you're in shape, there's nothing ike riding an ultralight bike, it just dissapears underneath you and rockets up hills (if you have the legs for it!) I had 3 different full-suspension bikes over the years, and one was rather nice and racy, but the elegance, simplicity, lower maintenece, and purer riding experience is just alot more suited to my tastes. It takes a bit more skill to bomb those downhills on a hardtail anyway:p

I'm getting a mountain bike, but I don't think I'll be riding off road. I just like to go for long rides on the road and bike tracks.

How the hell do you keep your feet on the pedals?! And how do you jump without a..eh jump ?

Skill......and lots of it. The only reason I can jump anything is I race BMX. That was at a friend's house who I became friend's with ever since my first race. I learned to jump on platforms. Oh, by the way, I have broken my handlebars, front deraileur pivots, and swingarm within 1.5 hours. I bought a new Shimano Deore disc Wheelset with sun rhynolite rims for $95. Now I'm waiting for my new swingarm in the mail...
