Moving away to work.

What have you done/plan to do?

This basically stems from a discussion I had with mates during a very boring (My teacher goes off on tangents, today, Meningitis) Biology lesson.

Basically me and a few mates were talking about whether we want to stay in the area for university or move away, not say to the US, or even France, but atleast into England.

I said I want to get out of this area, for University and for Work. It's not that I particulary dislike my area, I just don't feel like sticking round.

So, for the younger members, are you looking to leave the area for Work/education?

And the older member, did you plan to leave your area and did you in the end?
 
I don't know really. I don't have any particular plans to leave, since i don't hate this area, but i can leave if i want to. I'm not 100% sure what i want to do, or am going to do, but at the end of the day i want to do something computer related. I have good knowledge for my age, but i still need to learn, so that'll probably mean carrying on my education. Well, i certainly aren't learning much computer wise at school now. I learn more out of school than in ...
 
Well I don't plan to leave the area, as my town is in the center of bigger towns and cities so finding work or school shouldn't be much of a hassle. Toronto is only about 45 minutes away.
 
It's a tricky answer for me since I almost had two homes, one here in Manchester and one on the other side of the Pennines where I still go to see my family over there from time to time. But I'll do the easy thing and keep it simple and Manchester is my area since I was born here. No I've never fancied moving, not from here to somewhere else in the UK anyway, I might consider a move abroad given the right opportunity, but I have never been actively looking to move or anything.
 
I’d like to get away, although California’s big enough that “getting away” just means moving to a different part of the state. :lol: But, anyway, I just need something new. I’ve lived here for the past 17 years, and it’s time for some change.
 
Staying. I like the area I live, and even if I can’t work near-by, I have no problems with commuting.
 
During high school, I knew I wanted to get out of Toronto; that place is falling apart. Now I'm in Ottawa, and its not bad here. But, once I graduate, I'm probably going to be going back to University for a second degree, but I'm not sure where yet (since I haven't decided on a second degree). But once I'm done with University in around 7-8 years from now, I'll probably move wherever I can get a good job. I certainly would love moving to either California or New York City.
 
i would go away from the area, cause its a boring place :sick: :grumpy: , and by the way does anybody know what the 1980's were know as? :)
 
I always wanted to move the the East Coast, somewhere in Massachusetts or New York. Southern California is getting real old, real fast, and honestly, I just don't see all the hype about it..
 
Haha, I live in "The O.C." as well. I'm thinking of going to Montana State University in Bozeman when I get out of highschool. I may go to a community college first though...

Snow is overrated, I want to move to warm weather.
 
Most definitely it is. :scared: I can't imagine getting up at the crack of dawn just to shovel snow off my friggin car.

I'd like to stay here. The Gold Coast has a lot on offer and I don't see that changing really. I'm looking to get into a building trade and there's always people moving here so things will always need to be built. I don't think I could leave my family and friends behind anyway.

I couldn't imagine living, or even going anywhere else but Australia. Never left our shores, and I never really intend to.

Unlike a lot of people I know, I don't want to go to Europe to work. Who wants to deal with traffic, expensive petrol, snow and different languages? Not me.
 
I moved away to go to university, there was no uni where i lived and besides, half the point of going to uni is to leave home anyway. After finishing uni i moved to get a job and have been there ever since. Ironicly, after all that moving around it's my intention to move back to the town i grew up in - where we'll probably turn into my parents!
 
I put 'Didn't plan but have' - but it's a bit of a grey area.... I suppose I did plan to an extent because, although I would have happily stayed in Edinburgh and didn't specifically plan to get out, I did make myself amenable to the idea of moving away, and then later accepted that it was not only a good idea to leave (to go to University) but also necessary (to get a job).

One thing I would say is that you should atleast entertain the idea that you can (and possibly even should) leave your home town and start living your own life eventually. Once you've made the break once, it makes it much easier to do it again. By that I mean by going away to Uni (rather than staying at home) or for a job, you gain invaluable experience in learning how to live your own life. Then when that big opportunity comes up somewhere further afield, you will atleast be prepared for it. I think it's about keeping your options open and broadening the mind... but that said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Plenty of my mates stayed at home to go to Uni (mostly for financial reasons) and later moved away for work.... however, only a handful still live in Edinburgh (and even they have been away and come back...)
 
I had every intention of leaving the area I grew up in, and going to college. I did, and then moved a hundred+ miles away from family.

As it stands now, in the next ten years, I plan on moving further away than that. Some place where I can hang christmas lights on a palm tree.
 
I left my home town of Windsor two years back to study in Leicester which is a couple of hours drive away. I don't plan on leaving the country to live abroad ever, England isn't a bad place to live.

Maybe I'll come to you one day, England for example is searching for doctors atm...So if that doesn't change until I finished my studies, I'll consider going to the UK at least for a few years....
 
I'm so going to move from Sweden and move back to Budapest when I'm older.
I'm not sure if I'll tought....
 
Well i completely hate Peacehaven so il definatly be moving, even if its just to Brighton, at least its better than here:D

For me the ultimate is to move to Canada.
