Couple of questions:

1) Will my PS3 work there? According to Sony no. I know the power is different but thought a convertor could do the trick. Has anyone taken there PS3 or a US PS3 there?
2) If I have to get a new PS3 in Australia I will also lose my game progress and cars. What to do? Could I gift all my cars to a person in Australia and then have him gift me?

Thanks

I don't know about the ps3 working there but even if you have to get a ps3 in Australia you can still use your u.s. account with your game save as long as you keep the us disc.

Even if the US Game is Zone 1 and I am trying to play it on a Aussie system?

Thanks for the reply!

If you get a PS3 that's compatible with that region then you'll also have to get a new GT5 disc.
This means you'll lose all your game data/cars..

So basically you'll have to start from scratch. :/

You can still technically take your old PS3 and play your US Disc however.

We run 230V mains over here .. which normally isn't an issue for appliances running an external power pack but I'm not so sure about the PS3. So keep in mind that you might need a step-down transformer as well as the plug converter/adapter.

Maybe there's a sparky around here somewhere with a definitive answer ...

So here is the Sony answer. So now I just need to figure out how to get my +500 cars onto the Aussie version......

Thank you for contacting Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) today Arpad. My name is Christopher, and I can definitely address your questions about your North American region PlayStation®3 system.

Please be aware that a North American PS3™ system only supports a power supply of 120V AC, 60 Hz. If you use your system in a territory with different television or voltage standards, it could damage your unit. We do not recommend traveling with your system and we also do not have any information about adaptors or converters to override any territorial restrictions.

Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. (SCEI) has implemented a territorial-based distribution system for its hardware, peripherals, and software. This means that software or peripherals on a console designated for a different distribution territory than the console may not work correctly (e.g. North American games may not function in a system designed for other regions, such as, Japan, Europe, etc.).

You will only be able to play DVD's and PS3™ software titles coded "region 1" or "region ALL" coded in the NTSC format on the North American PS3™ system. Only Blu-ray Discs™ that are marked with "region A" will be supported.

Aw...:/ that really sucks. Good luck with restarting GT5.

You just need a power converter that will convert 230V/50 Hz to 120V/60 Hz and is capable of 380W of output.

The other thing you'll need to do when you get there is to reset your video output display. You can do this by holding down the power button on the PS3 for several seconds until you hear a beep. This will put it into an ultra-low resolution mode that's compatible throughout the world and then you can set up a higher resolution mode that's compatible with Australian TVs from there.

Restarting isn't too bad since you can easily earn alot of credit from seasonal, even better if you restart from a DS user to wheel user

good luck with moving over to Australia mate :) this place can get under skin very fast :) lol

To the best of my knowledge our HD TV standard is the same as Americas, so you shouldn't have to worry about resetting your video output.

PS Watch out for Kangaroos. The Southern Blue has a particularly nasty reputation for attempting to mount anything of similar height, especially in spring and summer.

Don't forget Koalas too. They drop on you from trees and steal your underwear. ;)

Not to mention snakes that can kill you just by looking at you.:)

Well, I used to live in Australia and I moved to the U.S. My Xbox 360 worked, and so did my PS3, but, my PS3 was sent to me (while I was in Australia) from my uncle who lives here. I needed to use a converter to use it in Australia, but he also sent me some games that worked only because they were also from N.A.

Don't forget the spiders that pop out of holes in the ground to swallow lap dogs whole. I've named the one in my backyard Nigel. ;)

Oh and this should sort your PS3 out with no issues, and anything else you need to bring that doesn't have it's own switch mode supply.

Not just the Kangaroos, place was origionally a penal colony - watch out
for the historically institutionalised aussie male :nervous:
and the deviant wildlife.

What is you upload your saves to playstation plus cloud thingy and download onto new system.

and welcome australia if you adapt a slight racism towards indians, muslims, white trash and no hopeing natives... your fit in just fine.

ALSO with you playstation I assume if you have gt5 and have the dlc packs on your current system surely if you sign in on a new aussie system with ya psn I am sure you can redownload the dlcs onto a fresh save game.

Hey man, America has it's fair share of racism too - our ignorant morons are pretty much on par with theirs. Not everyone hates people just because they might have different coloured skin or speak with an accent.

But seriously, watch out for kangaroos. If you have one jump in front of you in the road then brakes on and hit it, no swerving. Lots easier to repair the damage to your car than to fix you being dead because you've hit a tree.

Take lots of care on our roads, especially narrow country roads with rough edges and in particular gravel roads.. I had a close friend killed a month ago tomorrow on a gravel road purely because it was a crappy section of road lined with trees.

Edit: And yeah we have racism here.. if you venture into some areas you're going to see why too. Not mentioning any names (Kings Cross)

Cheers,

This was the punchline to some good fun, made me laugh out loud in a ****** day. :D

We're almost happy to have ya mate, hope ya love it as much as we almost do.

On a serious note though, watch out for the drop bears. Despite all the jokes about 'em, they are real.

Planning on applying for a work visa myself for september this year. Wondering if my Macbook will also work down under. I guess any simple converter could do?

Finally, someone else who is worried about Drop Bear attacks

Well, you shall be welcome down here in the country where if it isnt a drought, its flooded, or both

MacBooks should work anywhere as they have a switch mode power supply. All you'll need is a converter to get you from the pins you use in Canada, to the flat offset ones we have here.

Don't forget on fire Nismo43....

I have one of these from my Europe to US move! Sweet!

Keep in mind that the transformer you have from a Euro - US move will be a 'step up' (110V supply to 230V appliance), where what you need is a 'step down' (240V supply to 110V appliance). Any Euro appliance you still have should be sweet though, you'll just need the plug converter.

I have several friends in europe that plays wiht JP ps3 that are 110v when we are 220v here and got no problem at all. Just need the sector adapter. You can even buy Aussie game and play them on your us ps3 the only problem will be wiht dlc where you'll have to create an australian account. I have several JP game on my euro ps3.
