This week while I'm home for spring break, I will be heading over to my semi-local Apple store and if they have them, I am going to get the Macbook Pro. I really hope they have it, because I don't want to wait 2-3 weeks for it to ship. Do you guys think they will have the 1.83, 512MB, 80Gb version in stock? My friend said they had them in stock in the Indiannapolis store, so I'm thinking they might. :D I'm pretty pumped.

Ill keep you guys posted, pics when/if I get it! :D

btw, this will be my first Mac!

Cool. I’m considering a Mac when the next versions of Adobe software are released. Maybe earlier if funds allow.

Keep us posted on your experiences. Good luck, and enjoy. :)

Thats great news Event. I would recommend more RAM than 512MB, OS X just loves RAM. Speaking of RAM... while Safari is great, my Activity Monitor is reporting that it's using 209.68 MB of RAM! It still has memory issues that Apple needs to address. I would recommend Mozilla's Camino Browser (its pretty much firefox but built for macs). Enjoy your first mac!

Safari is so hackable, though. Stick with mozilla stuff.

512MB of RAM on a Mac will get you further than 512MB of RAM on a PC with windows. I will be fine for a while. I plan on getting another 512MB stick in the future, but 512MB now will be enough.

Dark Side? Nah, welcome to the Rebel Alliance.
Although I’m mighty tempted by the heathenbook, I tend to opt for Rev B Apple products. Having access to a greater number of native apps will be a further plus.

Enjoy OSX

It’s hard to say what they’ll have in stock. BTW, make sure you bring your student ID so you can get a student discount (it’s a pretty significant discount at that).

Ditto. Event, you’re going to save at least $100 (maybe more) with a student discount, so consider putting that many towards a 1GB stick of RAM (I have a $90 1GB stick in this iMac), and put it alongside the 512MB stick to get a grand total of 1.5GB – you will absolutely love it with that much RAM, I guarantee it. Trust me, RAM is totally worth it for a Mac.

Really? Mine is only using about 60MB, and I haven’t had a memory leak since v.2 (although the CPU will still spike with large Flash files or bajillions of animated GIFs).

Hmm... I wonder why it's so high. On XP, both Firefox and Opera only use about 30-40MB each with multiple tabs open.

Where are you getting it from? Go check out Mircocenter, they have a whole section of Apple computers.

I converted my Thinkpad over to the 'Dark Side'. It runs amazingly well and is fairly good on the batteries (I still need to hack the ACPI drivers though).

The only problem I'm having with it is the fact that I didn't partition enough space to OSX86 so I really can't install much software. Programs on OSX tend to take up a LOT of space compared to their windows counterparts

Well, I did it. I'm now on OSX. This thing is beautiful in nearly every way imaginable. The screen is oh so nice. I just need to get used to this new OS and iTunes :yuck: I realy dislike iTunes, I'm more of a winamp kind of guy. The speakers are decent, tho. Not very loud, but thats why I have a set of Z5300e's at school.

Pictures once my sister comes home, so I can use here camera, since I left mine at school.

Well, you lucky son of a gun. I’m envious. :) Anyway, you can always shoot me a PM if you have any questions about OS X.

Converted my Acer halfway there as well (dual boot).

Have a few issues (wireless drivers, sound drivers, and video BIOS incompatibility[doesn't work without an external dislpay 9/10 times, but when it does work, either on the LCD or external, it works perfectly]), but I'll get them all figured out.

OS X = Beautiful.
