Willi Weber, Michael Schumachers manager, has strongly suggested that Michael will retire at the end of the 2008 season.

Here and here.

So, why did he let this cat out of the bag? Is it to shut people up, or what?

Any thoughts on MS retiring etc. etc.?

What kind of pention to F1 drivers get, anyway?

Hehe  … he’ll probably just sell-out and be in ads all over German TV :p

JPM will be happy.

Considering over half of MS's nearly 200 million dollar income is from product endorsements and companies he's started from his F1 money, I doubt he'll suffer.

I can't see it. I can't see Ferrari allowing it. They are not going to loose a chance at Kimi and I can't see Schumi allowing himself to be teamed with Kimi...

It's 2007. Willi Webber is blowing smoke and up to something me thinks!

I may be missing something obvious here but....

Is Kimi going to Ferrari in 2008?

The rumors are that the deal is done for Kimi to drive for Ferrari from 2007-2011 for a total of $190million USD over the 5 years.

I don't buy that the deal is signed and done but I believe that it is going to happen.

V. Rossi is still linked to the second seat starting in 2007 as well....

If that happens I'll have reason to cheer for the Scuderia again!

Indeed, I think MS will retire at the end of 2006 … but, it’s hard to say. If he does stay then there is no way Kimi is going to Ferrari. No serious world championship contender would go to Ferrari with Michael there.

Nor will Micheal ever allow any serious challenger to him in the same car as he.

And wouldn't it be safe to assume that Michael wouldn't want to end his career with less than a Championship ?...

Michael won't retire this year. He is still enjoying racing and as long as he is, he will keep racing. Its not about the money either, its the love for the sport. He rules..

I'd like to see him do atleast one more year in F1 with Raikkonen as his team mate, that might be enough to revive my rapidly decaying interest in the sport.

Agreed. Seeing Kimi and Schumacher in the same team, "same" cars...that would be incredible.

Of course, "incredible" means there's a 0.1% chance it will happen.

Not gonna happen. Alonso is going to be Kimi's team mate.

Couple of questions...

Alonso is going to McLaren/Mercedes, right? I think Kimi will stay there if that's true...

And isn't Massa just Ferrari's rent-a-driver for this season? Where does he go afterwards? (For the record, Massa is the only Ferrari driver that I just can't dislike for some reason.)

Besides, Schumacher won't retire until 2076, at which point he will likely no longer be alive, which is the only way his skill will drop below Ferrari's required uberness threshold.

I may not like him, but the man is excellently skilled. For good or for evil. XD

I thought Ferrari were committed to Masa. Anyway, who's going to fill in for Renault once they take off? I wonder who'll be in the seat for Prodive too.

That's fine, I like Massa.

Also, that's a good question...if Alonso = McLaren...and...wait, who's the other Renault guy again? Alonso's fame is so massive, it's covering up half the paddock...I can't see who else is back there...

You know something that I don’t, Mikey?
Just a strong feeling I got after yesterday's events at Monaco.

You really think McLaren wants to hold onto JPM? I sure-as-hell wouldn't if I were them.

You think Kimi wants to stay at McLaren? He has been let down, time and time again. I don’t think there is much motivation to stay, anymore – especially after his retirement at Monaco.

Let's clear up the table guys.

Alonso goes to McLaren, we all know that.
Then naturally, Kimi won't drive in the same team with one of the two main rivals he has (Alonso and MS), so he'll move to Scuderia (which I personally think is a big mistake by Scuderia).
Well, like I just said, Kimi doesn't want to team up with neither Alonso nor Schumi (goes to Schumi also. He doesn't want to lose races to Kimi with the same car), so the only way Kimi will go to Scuderia is that Schumi retires (which I don't believe he'll do, since if I know the guy even a little, he wants to end his professional F1 career as the champion).
So Kimi's contract will be signed at the end of the season, when they know who's the champion. If it's not Schumi, well, then it's "good luck Kimi for finding a team for next season!"

What comes to Schumi moving to any other team from Scuderia, I don't believe it. I mean, he is Ferrari. He has been breathing the red Italian air since -96 and he has won 5 of his championships with Ferrari. No way his moving. Period! :)

Räikkönen is signed for Ferrari, in my opinion.

Ferrari are giving Schumacher all the time he wants to make up his mind about his career. They wouldn’t do that if they didn’t have Kimi.

If Schumacher retires, they have Kimi and Felipe. It Schumacher stays, they have Kimi and Michael.

However, if Kimi isn’t there, and Schumacher decides to leave, they have what, Felipe and Luca? Now that’s a championship winning line-up!

If Ferrari hadn’t signed Kimi, they’d be sweating by now.

Unless they have signed someone else... I don't really know many drivers who are better than Kimi but it could happen. Rosberg in Ferrari? That would be intresting..

I personally think Kimi has as much chance of going to Renault as he does Ferrari, if Kimi does decide to go to Ferrari however, then I could see Webber partnering Kovalinen with Fisi dropped.

2nd mcLaren seat isn't over at all either, JPM isn't exactley doing too well there and with Hamilton setting the pace in GP2, maybe he could partner Fernando?
