Mugen has just unveiled its completely revamped Honda Accord, called the "Inspire". It boasts "a number of aero add-ons, including a new grille, front spoiler, side sills, rear apron and a rear spoiler from which a 100 or so bats could hang."-TechEBlog

"Yes, the look is way over the top, but it's fun in the way it comically exaggerates the Accord's ho-hum design. The Inspire also gets a sports exhaust to free a few more horsepower through better breathing, as well as upgraded brakes, a lowered sports suspension and new aluminum wheels"- Autoblog

Aren't Accords supposed to be a good, reliable, efficient, family sedans? Not some crazy looking street tuner car.

"Factory rice!"

In all seriousness, though, this should be interesting, seeing that the Honda Accord does not typically have a sporting history, touring car races here and there. Is it a homologation special?

There need to be some bigger wheels, in my opinion, and rear-wheel drive.

Edit: (responding to Gashlycrumb) Thank you, that would explain a lot.

The Inspire is a Japanese Domestic Market model similar to the US Spec Accord so Mugen haven't actually changed that much on the outside of the car.

You know, just black out that grille, leave the wing off, and you've got a winner. the Wing seems out of place on this car, which otherwise could pass for "Sport/Luxury". the grille strakes are about 1/2" in width away from being from a Ford.

Interesting way to put it...Without the bat rest station (wing) it would look good. And I feel some slight alteration to the front bumper would help. I'm not sure what it is I don't like about that, maybe too high from the ground?

So's the Civic, but that didn't stop the 2008 JDM CTR from being a cracking good drive. This, however, is still too heavy to be a "sporty" front-driver. Faster, better, I suppose, than the standard Accord, but hardly a real contender for the title of World's Best Front Drive Car.

Still waiting for the CRX redux.

For a moment, I thought Mugen tuned a Chrysler Sebring, until I saw the rear wing.

I can't really figure out if Mugen is about performance or just "coolness". I think they've always been about racing and whatnot, but they even made a stupid body kit for my old Del Sol. Ah well...maybe Spoon will do something worthwhile on the Accord.

They will probably start by ignoring the American Accord entirely and just working with the Euro Accord. That's how most tuner companies usually do it.

The Honda Civic Si was nice. This is a bit much.

There seems to be trend returning with Japanese manufacturers offering "tuner" vehicles again, though. (i.e. Nismo 350Z, TL Type-S, Civic Si Mugen, etc.)

Fine by me. At least they know how to build them to sell.

Odd that the Japanese-market Inspire (even in regular spec) looks nicer than our NA-market Accord. Oh well...
