Hi, so I've got a DFGT, and I mount it on my computer desk as to play the game on my 1080p monitor, instead of my 720i projector.

The only thing thats irritating me now is the seat, I have my pedals in the desk's opening (shoved up against a giant amp shoved up against a desk support beam), and the wheel works perfectly as it is.

I want to get a chair, that has wheels, but can remain stationary (lock the chair wheeles or something), and is tall and holds you well, just like a real car's seat would from a modern luxury car.

Budget would be 200-300 I think, that's a reasonable price considering its two things, a new chair for my desk and for my game, I can splash a bit.

I'm opposed to having a dedicated rig as 500 dollars for a single purpose device is ridiculous imo, even though I already have the wheel, and it'd work better with the geometry.

Any ideas guys? :D

I have found a solution, going to put in a new post at the end does anyone know how I can close threads/update title to solved like others have?

For $200-$300 you could build a rig like mine with an eBay racing seat you can get for less than $100. Or you could go even more simple than I did and probably get away with everything for $200. Wood is cheap, you just need access to some cutting tools. You also get the benefit of building it exactly how you want.

For reference, I spent about $75 in wood, $40 on a used and faded Sparco seat with rail, and about $20 worth of paint. I also spent $40 in shop fees because I used craft shop where you pay to use their facility. If you've got basic tools, and you just want a basic frame style setup you could build something yourself out of wood for probably $100 + whatever a seat costs you. Just go to ebay and type "racing seat" and you'll see all kinds of cheap seats that would be great for a sim rig.

These chairs have lockable wheels and look nice and car geek like. ;)

Nice chairs but with Clubsport pedals with Load Cell need something more solid.

I came up with this solution: Two ironbars that are very easy to mount and dismount (about 10-15 sec).

With the wheel mounted to the desk, you get a very very solid race rig with no movement at all

Darn, how hard do you guys press the brake pedal?I just have a normal desk chair (thus no braking wheels) and a carpet under it and I never move with my seat. If I had to push that hard i'd start thinking about just getting a rig instead. Something like a gamepod GT2 for example.

Pretty hard, i have a pretty stiff setting on my CSP. I would get a rig, if i had the room for it. But this still the next best this, realy rock solid.

Great problem solving here, i like it. I was trying to figure this same problem out about how to use a nice office chair with my pedals and how to mount a wheel to it, but this looks like a great idea. Good work. I don't think its really that hard to swivel my chair when pressing the pedals, it doesn't roll very easy, but man that thing wants to swivel every time it turn my head!

Thanks for all of the responses!

I think LogiForce is on to something, I am coming from Australia though, so I'd need to probably find something I could get here (no use spending 250 on a chair if its 250 just to get it here). But I'll see what I turn up.

But yeah, that giant rig by Hoihman, while impresive dedication, doesn't work for me as I have too much room behind my chair to install a bracket, so it'd take up too much space - looks like it works though!

Gotta admit though, JustJap is local (it seems, considering free Australian postage), if the wheels locked, It'd be nearly as good, and available for only $260.

I was taking a look at the Corbeau Game Chair to go along with my rennsport wheel stand. It uses their FX1 Pro fiberglass shell racing seat and a bolt on 10" base. This would make a nice modular setup. You could probably get some casters to add on the base if you have access to some good tools.

The seat is $300 and the base is $65.

I'm finding it impossible, I don't want to construct one myself, I'd rather just get a chair with locking castor wheels, if anyone had any idea for one of those, that'd be great.

I've decided the budget is $100-$300 AUD delivered, would prefer to pick it up (in Melbourne), but if it does the job and is available within the budget, then I'll purchase it interstate, maybe even internationally (the latter is less likely).

Can't you get separate wheels and put them on your existing chair. Usually the system to put the wheels in the feet is the same with only the length of the pin differing from chair to chair.

Well now I've resigned myself to finding the wheels that lock, then going to a store with a good chair that match the wheels.

So it's a double hunt really, find the wheels (I've seen several on eBay), then find a chair locally if I'm lucky, or wait until christmas passes and get in on the sales.

I picked up a 2006 Jetta leather seat for $22 at a junkyard. Some PVC pieces to make a simple mount, it came out to about $45 for a new driving sim seat.

Thanks for the idea, but I really want a single finished product I can throw a couple of hundred bucks at, that will 'ALSO' function as my normal desk chair, I don't want a seperate chair, and then, my desk chair, where will I put it?

One chair to do it all, and the main feature required is lockable wheels - so 26th december, the cash is coming out and I'll be on the hunt.

I'm in the same boat as you, I recently moved into a new space and had to put my rig in storage :grumpy: and my office chair where I pretty much do everything has developed a crack in the plastic, so I've been shopping for a new one. Before I had a rig, I did a couple of things with an office chair. I used to chalk the wheels before I would race, and for a while I had a half rig (wheel and pedals only) that I could bolt to the chair, but both were a pain. I like what you've done with the bars though.

I really haven't seen anything that comes with locking wheels as standard, but I know you can get locking wheels in standard sizes that you could swap out, which is what I think I'm going to do.

Yes, that is probably the ticket, find some local locking wheels, then come December 26-31 (Early January if I'm unsuccessful too), go to all the stores that sell good chairs and see if they have any that the new wheels will fit into to.

So, that just leaves, where do I go for chairs? I would love to buy locally on eBay (I'm from Australia), failing that locally at a good 'chair' store (do they exist? Office Works is a real disappointment), then post the results.

What's your budget btw? I think if I could get exactly what I wanted, I'd be happy to spend as much as $300-$350, but I would like to spend $200.

EDIT: What do you mean by 'chalk the wheels'? Do you mean you got some chalk and rubbed it on the wheels to stop them rolling?

I have found a solution!

Ok, if you're in Australia, or know how to identify the manufacturer of this chair, then this has to be the best solution for someone who is space limited (which I'm sure most of us are).

Here is the chair: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110781446402&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:AU:1123#shId

And the BEST part, is that the manufacturer also makes lockable wheels, so I'll order some of them in January, and then that will be my dream chair completed.

No idea how much the wheels cost, but I need 5, I think anywhere between 5-8 dollars each is probably what they'll cost, then some shipping, so maximum $50.

For my kids, I have to keep it wrapped up for another couple of days, but I'll likely know the chair's brand after that (yes I did open it up when I went to pick it up, and it looked fine, but I didn't have time to check the brand then).

Oh yeah, completely forgot to post again with an update.

So the brand is DXRACER, its excellent, even without the wheels its a much better chair than my previous one for GT5, however the locking wheels will add a whole other dimension (which I need to check up on the order of).

I still find myself leaning forward, and leaning the chair forward to attempt to compensate, but it doesn't end up helping - I think its a habit I've incurred from using my previous chair, which when you leaned back on would simply 'lean'.

Anyway, thats it.

Thanks Conza, I'm looking for a new office chair, this looks like a contender. How comfortable is it for day to day office use?

A+. I found a mob in SA selling the chair for $300, I paid $360 for mine, which was for pick up, it was a Christmas special, but I love mine, especially after getting it some lockable castor wheels (I purchased at Bunnings warehouse for 3x2 sets at 6.99 each set ($21 total, including a spare wheel). I posted pics of it in the man cave thread, let me see if I can find my post again...

EDIT: I've since upgraded to the G27, but basically the last (massive) image, once it resizes, is a close up of the wheels, and above that is the chair. Extremely durable leather, I wouldn't put a knife to it, but its taken a couple of scraps with no sign of damage or wear, (accidental finger nail scratching, ect), I hardly adjust the gas, but of course being so new it hasn't worn out at all, so I'd reccomend this chair if you can get it, it seems available scarcely in Australia, and very easy to find if you're in Japan, but outside of that there might be large shipping costs, it is a big package *searches eBay UK quickly* Not there exactly, but you could talk to the guys advertising this similar chair for a mere 160 pounds. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DX-RACER-...plies_Office_Furniture_ET&hash=item3cc09cc3a9

And for the US, that's even further, I found no sign of Dx Racer at all there, but it may be imported somewhere, or might be easiest to get it sent directly from China.

Thanks Conza,

I dunno why, but I never thought of searching ebay. £160 is a great price :). I'll just check if they ship to Northern Ireland

I noticed there are lockable castors on amazon(UK) for £12-13 too, also castors that lock when you apply weight to them, which might be just the job!

Thanks again!
Ash

You do NOT want a chair that swivels -- as you steer, brake, and accelerate, a swivel mechanism will put a lot of stress on your lower back over time.

Trust me on this -- this is NOT a good thing.
