Hello everyone. I wanted to create a new topic for the upcoming U.S release of everyone's (at least on this website) favorite console driving simulation. Ive been reading many of the posts in the last few weeks regarding online racing and had a few ideas to share. (Ive searched to see if any similar threads exist and apologize if this has already been discussed)
Obviously the point system has some validity but there still seems to be a problem with regards to parity in online races (especially with the Elise). Now, were assuming Polyphony is hard at work incorporating damage (hopefully tire damage as well. We need flat tires) and updating the online portion of GT5 to be have many more options. My request to PD is to consider having multiple classes of cars race at the same time. Now, obviously 16 cars on track doesnt allow for great diversity, but you could have four distinct classes with four cars in each. This idea stems from my favorite racing series, Le Mans. Having separate classes not only allows for much more of a challenge but it allows mulitple people a chance to win in each race. It also allows people who have different tastes in cars (ie stock v. racing v. tuned) to compete in the same race.
With this type of racing damage and penalties become even more important. I have read many posts about wreckless drivers and it seems the black list gets bigger everyday. I generally stay away from online gaming because of situations like this and I hope PD can establish a system where the people being inconsiderate are discouraged (read banned) from participating. I would like to see them do away with 5 second penalties and go to a realistic flag system. We need stop-and-go pit penalties and black flags (races need to be more than 2 or 3 laps also). Even the best drivers have accidents but if you are the cause of an accident and another car is severely disabled or cannot continue you deserve at least a stop-and-go penalty. If you cause more than one accident in a race, black flag. If you are habitual and PD can track your black flag penalties you are suspended from online play.
I want to race with people. I want to see how well I can drive against the best in the world. I dont want to put someone in the wall or cheat to win. And, if I do, I will apologize for it. The GT community is a very special one and I cannot wait until next week to start joining in the fun. Thanks PD and everyone at GTPlanet.
