multiplayer tactics

I searched for information on my question, and I couldn't find much, so I'd like to pose a question to all the veteran players who do a lot of i.link gaming and 1v1+ multiplayer battles:

What are some tips in GT3 for multiplayer tactics, overtaking, and pit strategy? This is considering that we imagine there is a damage penalty so you can't just ram someone or whatever.) Any input would be grateful.

practise practise practise :)

try different tactis and you'll see which suits you best.

I've done a fair amount of ilinking, and have a few tips to pass on.
  • Always, when following another car, try to get into it's slipstream. If you're less than 1 sec behind you will pick up a tow
  • To make it difficult for someone else to use your draft, weave gently down the straights, or run really close to a wall - the following car may hit the wall trying to draft you
  • If you have a view with a mirror, make sure you use it frequently when there are cars behind you
  • If the other guy has a mirror, then harrassing him for a while might produce a mistake, to allow you to pass. If tyre wear is on a mistake is likely to come as the tyres degrade.
  • If you're about to be overtaken, take the inside line for the next turn forcing the other driver to try to pass on the outside. But remember to brake a little earlier than normal or you'll overshoot
  • With tyre wear on, try not to steer too heavily, spin or go off the road as your tyres will wear out faster.
  • When ilinking a S class car, pit whenever a tyre goes red (depending on the number of laps to go. S class cars lose a lot of performance on red tyres
  • When ilinking C and B class cars, never pit. You'll never make up the time lost with a new set of tyres
  • With a good driver A class cars don't need to pit either, but the difference is not huge.

You sound as if you are speaking from personal experience there, Kev. :D :D

I heard that tactic works really well at Apricot Hill :D :D

well im a friend of the starter of this post, and we go over to each other's hosues and compete, and right now we're 4-1, ive only beaten him 1 and hes beaten me 4 times, but the thing is i dont own this game so its kind of hard, but we're pretty close most of the time. pit strategy is really important, we were racing tokyo and it was a 7 lap race. i was consistently ahead of him for 4 or so laps, and my tires were getting worn, and i pitted, but he didnt so he passed me and pitted the next lap, so with 3 laps to go, my tires were worn out while he had some fresh tires, but iwas still in the lead, but lost it in one of the last few turns, how do u know when to pit?!

It's all about pit strategies, being careful with tire wear and knowing where to break and how to take those corners. Soon you'll be beating your mate in no time. The closest I get to exciting multiplayer racing is playing Mariokart DD against a mate who is nearly as good as me and that means an excelent head to head battle.

In a 7 lap race, the good idea is to pit at the end of the fourth lap. You're going to have to run 4 laps on one set of tyres either way so you might as well have fresher tyres at the end.

By the way SkylineR35GTRx boy, what's your excuse for losing to me. Remeber, Forest race.

At the last iLink I was at I gained, on average, 1 place every race by pitting at the end of lap 3. There were 2 main reasons why that worked.

1 - After my stop, I had clear track in order to get some good laps in.
2 - Everyone else lost time as they all pitted together and got in each others road.

I usually led into the last lap, but was caught by faster drivers, but I gained overall from doing that.

daan, when pitting on the 3rd lap, does it ever hurt you during the final laps when the later pitters have fresher tires so they can drive more aggressively? what's your technique for putting minimum stress on the tires? I usually just try to drive smooth, but then, I usually like to pit on 4, so I generally push my tires harder last lap.

To me. You can show true skill when both of you use the same car.

Usually when my friends and I race that's exactly what we do, it makes it more interesting and neither can say, "Oh, I just lost coz i had the underpowered car."

I agree with Wolf, "talk is cheap." The only place you've ever beaten me is Seattle. I do have to admit though you're pretty good for someone who doesn't have the game. We'll see who the best is next time we race.
