A friend of mine that's about the same age as me (I'm 28 and he's 30) sent this to me. It's from a forum that he frequents. I laughed my arse off at this. So some of us older members here might get a good kick out of this.

Truer words were never spoken.
Its about GD time someone spoke up for our lost generation

When I was a kid adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill both ways through year 'round blizzards carrying their younger siblings on their backs to their one-room schoolhouse where they maintained a straight-A average despite their full-time after-school job at the local textile mill where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep their family from starving to death!

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it.

But....

Now that I've reached the ripe old age of twenty-nine, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so ****in' easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live In a goddamned Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet--we wanted to know something, we had to go to the goddamned library and look it up ourselves!

And there was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter--with a pen!--and then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the ****in' mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

And there were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to go to the goddamned record store and shoplift it yourself! Or we had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and **** it all up!

You want to hear about hardship?

You couldn't just download porn! You had to bribe some homeless dude to buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11! It was either that or jackoff to the lingerie section of the JC Penney catalog!

Those were your options!

We didn't have fancy **** like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the the phone rang, you had no idea who it was it could be your boss, your mom, a collections agent, your drug dealer, you didn't know!!! You just had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

And we didn't have any fancy Sony Play station videogames with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win, the game just kept getting harder and faster until you died!

Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! A tall guy sat in front of you, you were screwed!

And sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 20 channels and there was no onscreen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!

And there was no Cartoon Network! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning... ...D'ya hear what the **** I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK, you spoiled little bastards!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy.

You're spoiled, I swear to God! You guys wouldn't last five minutes back in 1984!

But seriously, as a kid that's 14, I know we have it real good.
But ykno what? Your parents said that your generation had it better than theirs, and you said that we have it better than you. So does this mean when we grow up our kids will have better lifes than us? Yes, because life quality has been rising for how freak'in long now?

Yep, todays generation of kids has life made. Instandt Porn, music, chat, games, and more. That's just on the internet. Back then buses were old a junky and only went to certain areas. Today they are for the most part air ride equipped with radios and go almost everywhere.

The only thing I can think of that our generation has harder than yours is mathematics. Every few years they are making younger and younger kids do stuff like Algebra. I remember peopel saying they didn't take Algebra until the 11th grade. Now it's available in the 8th grade.

Let me tell you. We have it hard too but in our own ways. Yeah we have it easy in the ways which you all had it hard, but we have new things to worry about. You didnt have to worry about the kid who cut in front of you might have a gun or a knife, or you didnt have to worry that stress on teenagers is rising and that 30% of teenagers in the US alone have needed counseling for stress overload with all the schoolwork and pressure on us today. Im not saying that its harder than what you old farts went through (I mean that kindly, not to be offensively). We have it hard in our own ways. Yeah there are some who are real lucky or just pretend to be, but alot of us (the ones who care about our future) have to go through alot just to make it. Just because Im smart (as I dont slack off in school) I get made fun of and beat up etc. I have to do all this homework which will usually eat up my day but thanks to block schedualing I have time to do things I like most of the time. We all (youth and adults) have it hard. I may not know as much as you guys who have more experience in life, but so far all I know is its hard. Alot of families these days are single parents with up to 2 children and its usually the older child who has to look after the little one when the parent is gone (happens even in non split families), which I know of. When I have to take care of my little brother I cant go anywhere. I have to stay home and watch after him (or if he goes to his friends I have to wait at home till he comes back). Then he will bug me when I try to do my homework, then have to clean up after him (I dont see how such a little kid can make such a big mess all the time), I have to make his meals, and clean the house when all the others are out working (my parents and both my older brothers work). I have so much pressure from my parents to do good in school, and I dont want to let them down, plus living up to my older brothers is hard within itself. With all the drugs, violence, and pressures this is anything but easy (but still not as hard as you guys) in some parts. Though I am very thankful for all the hard work my parents have done to keep a roof over our heads and the food they give us. Very thankful to have loving parents, because some are less forunate...

Very well said Palm! I agree with you 100%!.. Except i need to take care of my older sister cuz she is such an idiot.... eg:
O bernard get me this, Bernard get me that! Hey bernard come here and help me with my math homework

like wtf!!

Yeah, we didn't have internet forums...you had to shout out your rant in the middle of school.

Man, we had it rough....what did we do before these things? :D

Just one question; if people under 25 aren't supposed to read this, then how do those rants directed toward us "youngens" get to us? I admit, we do have it alot easier than you older people did, and our kids will have it alot easier than we do. It's just the way things go (eventually, things will turn into a Matrix-style society)...

Laters:cool:

Yeh, my laptop has a thingo as well...but a mouse is way better...

WE DIDN'T HAVE NONE OF THIS ****ING VIRTUAL REALITY STUFF!!! YOU DAMN KIDS HAVE IT SO EASY! WE HAD TO USE A CONTROLLER! A FREAKING CONTROLLER!!!

I may not be 25 yet, but i sure do remember the time when i had to write papers for school with a pen and glue the pics to the paper. And Tv existed of Channel 1 and Channel 2 in those days.

And i played football outside from the minute i got home from school till bedtime.

And still, with all these high-tech stuff that makes your life so much easier, i kinda miss those old days.

Y'know this place makes me feel old :( too many damn kids on the net, the rumble strip is now an online playground (well...has been for a while )but I suppose it keeps 'em out of trouble on the streets .

Boom, I'm ten years older and I remember BEFORE cable. We had channels 2-13. A couple of UHF channels and the TV had a damn dial. When the tv got old you had to fiddle with the dial and get it to sit between stations. Or you just watched one station with the ghost of another overlapping.
I had an 8-track tape pleyer in my first stereo. And I had a record player. I had to change the record when I wanted to hear a different song!!!
My son called me "old guy" today. Since he just graduated from High School I called him "new, old guy".
