I remember my first VHS Video recorder it was a JVC thingy and it had huge switches that took all of your strength to operate..But that was not the best part it had a remote control WOW high tech or what ..The only pisser was you had to plug the damn remote in first

The TV i had with it took 10 mins to warm up before i could watch it .By that time i had missed what i wanted to watch..Also i had to prop the right hand side up on a book, as the screen was off center .And the picture had a greenish tinge to it .And a woodchip casing ..

Ahhhh those where the days

Boom, I'm ten years older and I remember BEFORE cable. We had channels 2-13.
Oh gawd, you won't believe this... but with all honesty, those are the only channels that I get! I get channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13... that's it. No cable, no satellite, nothing else. In light of people with 300+ channels, it's kinda unique that I can count all of the channels I have with less than two hands. :D

Heh, we had a Panasonic VCR player (although I ended up calling it the Panachronic, for various reasons) it was effin huge. But before that we had a Sony Betamax with that huge arse tape deck type slot. I think most tellys had woodchip casing around then. Mind you we still have our old Black and white telly in the kitchen, it's flippin older than me and it still works fine.

Mind you my Commodore 64 ruled big time. :D

I had a b&w portable and a stereogram ( big long ugly sideboard thing ) to play my lp's on :yuck:

And the stereo she got was a stereogram.I laughed my ass of when i saw it ..Oh Yeah he was the one responsible for getting me that wonkey TV after that if i needed any electronic gizzzmatrons i made sure i got someone that knew their stuff to purchase for me :D..

Ha ha! Like Betamax was the old, clunky technology that nobody remembers!! (Simpsons episode, they go to get a video at the "VHS Vault - formerly Beta Barn" )

My parents were refusing to buy Japanese products in the late 70s/early 80s, so we got lumbered with this Phillips V2000 thing! It was about the size of a car, but the quality was quite good, and the tapes were double-sided, like audio cassettes! I remember they bought it in time to video a Royal Wedding (Charles and Diana, OMG it was dull!), and it cost about £600, at a time when you could get a Mars bar for £0.05!

I remember my Mom amd Dad getting a Betamax recorder. It seems like the tapes were smaller than VHS weren't they? We would watch TV on the huge consel Curtis Mathis. We didn't have cable. Instead we had a descrambler that hooked to the back of the TV and picked up the signal on movie channels through the rotary antenna. My Dad carted all us kids around in a huge station wagon with the back seat facing backwards and all of us kids would fight over the back seat except for my oldest sister who would get sick if she rode back there. Ahhh...the good old days.

And now you have the Victorias Secret catalog. Back when I was a young'n if you wanted anything better than JC Penny there was Frederics of Hollywood, full of not photos, but DRAWINGS!

I got cable in 6th grade and a VCR not long after.

I remember figuring out the "lock" on the cable to keep me from seeing T&A movies. I'd scan the cable guide book looking for the word "nudity."

And My dad bought me Intellivision. Do any of you remember that peice of crap?! I couldn't swap games with anybody because I was the only person I knew who had it. No Colecovision. No Atari. I still harbor a resentment over that.

Pure crap. People had it better years ago when there were plenty of jobs and they were desperate enough to not make you go through 25 years of schooling to get a ****ty 5 figure job to pay off your 5 figure debt.

Yeah, OK... "about 25 years ago", you mean around 1975 when both inflation and unemployment where approaching double digits for the third straight year? None of the "recessions" since then have held a candle to that period.

At least there are "McJobs" nowadays; there's some sort of work, even if it isn't desirable work. What do expect, an office job, Mayorbill? You're 16 or 17, aren't you?

I yes, I remember TV with about 4 VHF and 3 UHF channels...rabbit ears, anyone? Even the early days of cable in my family (circa 1982) had about 20-25 total choices, including the "extra-channels" like HBO, Cinemax, TMC (remember that?), Showtime, etc.

There was an easier thing about "file sharing" back in the 1980's-early 90's...True, it was that crappy medium known as the audio cassette tape; but copying from records, tapes, VHS, and CDs was a snap. Press two or three buttons, and set a timer, and you're set. It wasn't until the late-90's that CD-Rs were easy to find, so it worked out good for about 20 years!

Each genertion has it easier than the last.
Each generation gets lazier than the last.
Each generation becomes more depraved than the last.
Each generation becomes more self indulgent than the last.
Each generation becomes more obese than the last.

etc....
etc....
etc....

.IMO

There are always those few exceptions to every rule

EDIT: I also believe it's the generation before that is to blame for the next generations shortfalls.

So, how far to we have to go back before you find acceptable civilization?

this is very interesting topic... and serious... but at the same time it's freaking funny to read about hard times of different generations..... bribe drunk to buy porn... :D :D well... i have just bought it my self at the age of 12.. some playboys.......

yeah... but very good thread.... niiice.......:D

let's remember these things and check out the upcoming generations, and compare them to us.....

hmmmm, i'm 44, learned algebra in 8th grade just for the fun of it...in '69 we had to go to my aunts house in whittier to watch neil armstrong land on the moon 'cause she had a color tv, our stereo (kids didn't have stuff like that of their own) was a sears-roebuck console about 8 feet long with a turntable and "fm multiplex stereo", i used to make the windows shake playing my "rolling stones - get your ya ya's out" album" until my dad would cuss me out, we would collect soda bottles, take 'em to the store and turn 'em in for money to buy new soda's (coke in the little glass bottles, it really did taste better, as long as their wasn't a dead mouse or a cigarette butt in it), and yes, we played football outside until the sun went down...oh yeah, and teenage girls back in the sixties looked hot!

btw, i don't think he meant you had to be over 25 to read this, he meant you had to be over 25 to be able to read

Well, I've seen plenty, but I've never purchased one. I wouldn't waste my money on a Playboy no matter who was in it.:p

and a playboy in 1969 was freaking out of this world! my grampa used to have a collection of cavalier magazines that i used to sneak into, dang, makes me kinda hot just thinking bout 'em...you know, i think we did have it better back then...growing up in southern california in the '60s and '70s, i wouldn't trade it for anything...
