Hello all, this is my attempt to find what I've been missing...
After the last few years I've played a great number of games on my PS2 and now I'm at a point where only a select few offer anything that interest me.

With that said, I know there are plenty of great games that have been released for the PS2 and I'm sure I had to have missed a few of them.

So, with that said, what are the best games for the PS2, those "must-have" games?

To start a simple list of my own, I'd say...
GT4, God Of War, Soul Calibur 3 (and SC2), Ace Combat 5, but what else?

Can you all suggest the must-have titles that could give a second life to my PS2?

(btw, if a thread like this already exist please feel free to point me in that direction!)
(oh, and thanks for contributing, I'm looking forward to finding some games I haven't already gone through!)

Resident Evil 4, for one. Definitely MGS3:Subsistence, even if you're not a huge MGS fan. Black is pretty damn good, too.

I'll think of more later.

Offcourse GTA:SA and also
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
very funny to attach like 10 c4 packages to a car, remote detonate it and watch it fly through the sky :)

edit: i just found out that there is going to be a sequel called World in Flames

Don't forget God of War 2.

And not sure if you're into RPG's but Final Fantasy XII has a really unique battle engine to the series. Definitely should be on the list.

Devil May Cry 1 and 3: Special Edition
ICO
Shadow Of The Colossus
God Of War II
Onimusha 1, 2, 3 and DoD

Of those not been mentioned that would be on my list...probably Tomb Raider Legend and Ace Combat Zero...only trouble is both are fairly short in life span...Enthusia Pro Racing maybe...though it can get mind numbingly boring if you're not a big fan of racing..

Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. Probably won't be able to get it cheap, though.
I also reccommend NFS: Hot Pursuit II, the first 3 Rachet and Clank games, the PS2 port of Half Life and Red Faction.
More to come.

Awesome, I was thinking about starting a thread like this, but for diferent reasons - I buy games rarely, if ever and plan to buy soon, but don't want to waste any $ on crappy games.

You know, I was at the Gamestop a few days ago, and I was in a toss up between Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and God of War. I went with Mortal Kombat...:indiff:

Although Armageddon is pretty sick...

Winning Eleven/PES

I still play Winning Eleven 9 regularly; it is my most played game and gets more time in the PS3 than all of my PS3 games combined.

i'm in the same position, there arent to many new ps2 games that interest me now.

the big three for me are - GT4, san andreas and MGS3

i've got about 20 games but most of them are earlier versions of these or others that i dont play as often.

Aside from AC5, your list looks like my list.

GT3
GT4
Soul Calibur 2
Soul Calibur 3
God of War
God of War II
The entire DDR series
The Metal Gear Solid series
Call of Duty series
Medal of Honor series
The Need for Speed series
The Tony Hawk series
Twisted Metal: Black
The Smackdown vs. Raw series
We <3 Katamari <--incredibly addicting for what it's worth
Alien Homonid
The Tekken series
The Virtua Fighter series
The Resident Evil series
GUITAR HERO!!!!! ....and GH2
Prince of Persia
The Madden football games
Flatout
Flatout 2
The Mortal Kombat series
The Grand Theft Auto series...and pick up GTA 2. That's the best out of them all.

...and that's all I can think of at this time. Good luck in your quest to keep the ps2 alive!

Then Tomb Raider: Anniversary :D Much longer and tougher game to beat.

It depends a lot on what kind of games you like. I'm not into RPG or FPS games, for me it's mainly racing games.

And I also don't know much about new titles, my most recent buy was Test Drive: Unlimited, and that's because of what I read in the thread opened in this forum.

So, about racing games, I assume you have every GT game there is for the PS2 (GT3; GTConcept; GT4:P; GT4). And also Tourist Trophy. So, apart from those, my other all time favourite games are:

Rally:
V-Rally 3 (old, less known, but a great game);
RBR (the best and most difficult rally game for the PS2)

Road/Circuit racing:
Enthusia Professional Racing, probably the best physics engine;
TRD2 and TRD3, probably the best racing games in the PS2;
Test Drive: Unlimited, even if I don't like "street racing"

Endurance Racing
24 Hours of Le Mans, a one-of-a-kind game, the only one that recreates what an endurance race is all about.

Bikes

The MOTOGP series

Miscellaneous, but you have to drive well

Stuntman, I had great fun playing it
Road Trip, seems like a kids game, but it can get you addicted to it

Not-racing related

Syberia I and II: Adventure game, the first one is better than the second
Seek and Destroy: you are a tank in a tank world. Small but very entertaining game
Athens 2004: a very nice portrayal of the olympic games

That's all I can remember for now, but I have about 50 PS2 titles at home, so maybe tomorrow I'll remember a few more to recommend

hmmm...

Action: God of War I/II
Sim: GT4 Duh
Platform: I don't really play them too much. :D
Action/RPG: Any recent Zelda Game
Traditional RPG: Don't play them much anymore.
Fighting: Tekken 5
Sport: Tony Hawk 3 - Best skateboarding game of all time.
Just for fun: Daytona USA on dreamcast.

I'm glad to see at least one of you recommended ToCA series.
Any GT fan would be foolish to ignore it, but then Kent should know the game.

Cheers,

MasterGT

forgot about the toca series (although it's called DTM race driver over here)
I have the 2nd for the pc and the 3rd for ps2, both great games.

Didn't know that there were Zelda and Daytona USA games for the PS2. I have to check that out....

:sly:

MEh, I just read the title, then read the list. I didn't even pay attention to that. Pretty slow of me huh? :dunce:

 I thought it was funny.....especially how many times he said PS2, in bold even. :)

Thank heavens. I thought I was the only one.

No doubt! 👍

If you're into GTA type games...

True Crimes: Streets of LA & Streets of NY are pretty cool.
Mafia...also a good shooter.

also...

The Midway classics collection (dunno if that's the right title) is also pretty cool. Loads of fun oldschool games, and Rush: The Rock is in there, too.

Ahhh....racing nostalgia! :)

Gran Turismo Series
Tekken 5 and Tekken Tag ( because Tekken 4 is weird)
Enthusia: Professional Racing ( So that you don't argue with your friends that you don't know what your talking about)
Socom 2 ( because 1 is full of hackers and 3 is plain weird with the new made maps)
Front Mission 4 ( Very good game)
Killzone ( or Black and Because it is claimed a Halo-Killer? But Black seems better)
MGS 3 ( Because everyone wants to be Solid Snake with a Box)

Essentail multiplayer madness.
Guitar Hero
Timesplitters
Twisted Metal Black
Pro Evolution Soccer!

*Cough*
Jonah Lomu rugby

I thought GTA2 was a PS1 game.
I remember playing it before I moved 6 years ago and I know I didn't get a PS2 until after moving.
Maybe I'm thinking of GTA1? :ouch:

I'm happy to see this thread got some good responses. There are a few games I've been hesitant to buy and I may go through with it now that I'm getting more info on what good games were availible for the ps2. 👍

Btw, on the note of ps1... I've been trying to get "Einhander" into my PS2 with no luck lately. :(
Oh, and Front Mission is a series I would like to hear more about... FM4 specifically.

Most of the games mentioned so far belong on a must have list.

IMO some of the top games are -

GT4
Timesplitters 2 - Better than TS1 or Future Perfect.
Black - Forget Killzone, get this.
GTA: San Andreas - What can I say?
Fight Night: Round 3 - The best boxing game ever.
Metal Gear Solid 3 - Probably the best in the series.
WRC Rally Evolved - Something a bit different to Gran Turismo.

I could easily go on but these are some of the best for instant enjoyment. :)
