My new car.

1992 Nissan 180SX, Japanese import. Genuine RPS13. SR20DET redtop with a few little mods, extractors, exhaust, BOV, the usual. The only problem is that between testing it and picking it it has developed a slipping clutch. It only slips when it comes on boost so it's totally driveable at the moment (off boost) but it's still a pain in the arse. But otherwise a decent condition car :)

As soon as I can afford it I'm going to fit a new clutch and hopefully mock up a cold air box for the filter (assuming I have enough free time in class). After that I'll save for some new wheels and tyres since the tyres on there will not pass the next WOF and some new wheels would look cool.

I've also been recommended I fit some 5 stud hubs from a GTS-t and the 4 spot calipers too because they are a more solid braking system and they have a larger selection of wheels to choose from. Any opinions on this?

Well it is the most common S13 brake/hub upgrade, R33 GTS25t brake upgrade is the one to go for but the brakes have a small premium price due to the popularity and quality. 16 inch wheel's are a minimum to fit over those brakes (and they barely fit).

It is a worth while modification for the braking performance but also as you said the larger wheel range.

(and because of this I don't just worry about my wheels getting stolen but my brakes too  )

Nice car. :)

If you're after GTS-t rims, a guy on SSE (southernskylines.com) is selling about 16 of them for $50 each (without tyres though).

OK cool, I'll keep a look out for a set of them, cheers for the advice. I'll need new wheels before I can do that though, this is going to start adding up :scared:
People will steal anything aye, one guy at tech got his FMIC stolen off his car. He was cruising around minus the bumper but still.....

Cheers man. I'll have a look at that, I wonder how/why he got a hold of 16 of them?

He's really into drifting so i assume they are old rims from that. Username on SSE is Nik. :)

clean ride man

Cheers man, my MX is almost sold so soon I'll have some money to spend on the 180. I had a really busy week in Welding class so I didn't make a cold air box but on the plus side a friend is hooking me up with a freebie SR20DE throttle body from his project car (S14 SR20DE auto is being turned into a manual RB25DET) and also I might buy some R32 GTR front 4 pot calipers he has lying around to give me a reason to get started on changing the hubs too.

Edit: Hmm, I just found out that the S14 SR20DE TB is the same size as the TB on the Redtop, I was led to believe that it was larger. Eh well.

Very clean indeed. Wish I could find some examples of that kinda clean around here. Too many college students mucking up their cars with junk mods (Such as the ek sedan civic here that is so low the stock rims and hub caps are in the wheel wells)

I need to import somethin from Japan, just to be cool :P Wish it was just easier here.

Heh, I took the spoiler off my 180 this afternoon just to see what it would look like mad JDM drift style and it doesn't look too bad, I think it looks better without the wing. I'll probably fill in the holes in the hatch and sell the spoiler on Trademe. Tommorow, rangi sleepy eyes :D

You need some mad tyte rims, quick, yo.

I realise this. Believe me, I know that it needs it :ouch: .

However A) I can't afford the wheels I want right now, maybe next year and B) When I have money I will be changing the hubs for 5 stud ones so I have to wait till I've done that before I can put on wheels.

Sleepy eyes is so 2002..... :p

Hope you get the holes in the hatch from the wing 'properly' filled in, 90% of people I know just put ugly rubber bungs in the holes for whole time the own it. I liked the larger type X style rear wing it had, especially compared to the ugly standard low ones the usually come with.

Yeah i think it looks better with the wing, most of the ones i see these days have no wing i think.

I think the wing gives it a more classy look. Wingless hatchbacks are like a clone army.

I'm still tossing up whether to put it back on or keep it off and fill in the holes.
With the wing it looks different, as Omnis says, classier compared to all the ca18 200sxs cruising around here but without it it does look a lot cleaner. Hmm. I'm in no hurry to make a descision anyway.

Heh, my clutch is getting slippier, I'm going to replace it soon for peace of mind. I've been recommended to buy an Exedy one, they're pretty good so I hear. What sort of other options are there?

Does your clutch slip in low gears, like 1st and second? If your clutch slips under power in those gears you need a new clutch. Now. But that's just me, because I wouldn't tolerate that much slippage. I've in a car that slipped in 5th gear, but was drivable in the others, and that drove me nuts.

The clutch is fine until the car warms up, 10-15mins after starting it then it starts slipping. The cooler the ambient temperature then the longer I can drive for before it starts slipping. It's manageable but just for longer trips its a pain. My guy who was supposed to be sorting out the new clutch had been cocking about for about 3 weeks so last week I went somewhere else and now a new clutch is coming on monday. I'm just going with a heavy duty clutch with a tougher diaphragm now.

www.zilvia.net

best 240 site on earth.

Oh yea, cheers for the link Dorifto. I'm already a member at Zilvia but I just lurk and read rather than post. How's your S13 going?

I think 240sxforums.com is a much better site than zilvia. Zilvia has a bunch of flaming, and the layout is hard to work out.

Nissansilvia.com might be better for Revheadnz as he has a 180SX not a 240SX. (I have never been to any 240SX forums though)
