<work rant>
Here's the deal. I work for the state of Massachusetts, in a state run University. Pretty easy job, typical state employment, come in late, leave early, way too many holidays. Union gig. Free tuition. Basically a dream job, except we're not overpaid like most state employees.
So what's the problem you may ask? Well, the state is out a lot of money, thanks to a crap governor (who thinks taking a state police chopper home for the holidays should be a perk) and the Big Dig (construction project from hell, billions over budget). As a result the state has offered qualifying employees an early retirement package to save some money and reduce layoffs.
My boss is taking the package. The problem is that, he's got a boner for the state, and is taking his job waayyyy too seriously for someone who's about to make $2500 a month for doing nothing for the rest of his life. As of Friday he's outta here, and yet he keeps on thinking up meaningless and trivial tasks for me to do before he leaves. Stuff like making a new flowchart in Word, because he doesn't know how. Asking me how do you turn on the computer. Calling so and so about unimportant stuff that isn't going to happen for another 2 months anyways...
The whole time, he's swearing us to secrecy about his last day, as if people really f-ing care when he's leaving. (He's a jerk, he's always screwing people) This morning he got really pissed off that Purchasing hadn't changed a purchase order yet...I mean, if I was in his position I'd probably just cruise on through the last week and then that's it, I'm out. But this guy, ugh...He's all about the job. Bah, I'm calling in sick tomorrow.
</end rant>
Whew, I feel better now. Not that I don't like my job, I do, it's just frustrating to deal with him. To have to slog through meaningless and stupid tasks (which take time away from the work I need to get done) that will be worth absolutely zero come Monday...because they're not filling his position.
Thanks for listening...
