Sssaaaaaaaabbbb.

But a no go if you're a RWD elitist. Except maybe a Saab Turbo X.

Thought he didn't want FWD? Not saying that the S60R is, because it isn't, but it's not a clever diff-juggling oversteer machine like the Evo or STi.

Nice car, though... nice sounding, very restrained looks... and it goes well, too.

TDI look cool

So anyways, my bro now wants a 2006-2007 Volvo S60R 6 speed automatic
There are 4 of them in our area with 30-40k miles in low $20s
now he wants something more ADULT then childish. Well for me I would agree, they look sweet . Anyone has one? any opinion?

ConsumerReports says go for the 2007. 06 has below average engine cooling statistics.

Yeah I think so too. I did bit research and 06 models and 07 models came with automatic 6 speed that utalizes all the torque of the car, the previous 5 speed models don't use that. Its funny all 4 of the s60r Volvo in our area are the 2006 years! :)
There color choices are cool, from blue to black to nice gray, 300 hp and 300 torque is nice numbers, and fuel economy, not to mention its just like todays 3 or 1 series with twin turbo 3.0 engine :) but for way cheaper

Mercedes Benz E/C-class, BMW 5-series..💡

He already owns a E class (w124 3.2) He would like the 5 series but we cant find any good ones for around 20 k in our area, they usually have too many miles on them already.

He wants too look after new year, so you never know something might come up

Also wont you guys agree? the volvo we are looking at seem to be in super nice conditions judging from the pictures, and usually people that drive them are more of grown up and take more of good care while driving them by not always flooring the gas pedal and braking too hard. When we were checking out used Subarus, a lot of them had some engine mods, or rims put on, seems like some KIDS bought them, race the crap out of them, and now trying to sell them.. no thanks.

How about a Pontiac G8 GT?
They come with a 6.0 v8 and choice of either auto or 6-speed.

I would really consider a G8 GT, infact I'm going to head out in a few and see if I can find one to test drive. I'm sure you can get one for a really great price. Doing just a cam swap will really open these v8s, and you got yourself a 420+rwhp monster!

That ^ is a used G8 GT from Ohio with 5.5k miles for $24k.

S60R rides great, but handles like ass even with the variable suspension. Stay away from autos, the differentials will eat themselves if you don't change the fluid at the proper intervals or with the correct fluid.

Go for a Legacy or a 4-cylinder Jetta/A4.

My brother finally got a new (used) car.
2002 CLK 55 AMG (W208) Black and charcoal leather
One owner car, 35,000 miles, you can still smell the new "leather smell" that's weird for 8 year old car, extremely nice condition inside and out, even the leather has not a single wrinkle. Engine is great, smooth and powerful, transmission is very smooth, can't even feel gear changes.

Price was 13,500 with a (MY CAR) trade in. But he gave me his 93, 3.2 300E. So not a bad deal.

Pictures are going to be posted soon once the weather and snow clears up.

He figures slightly used ones will save him money, and it did about 10,000 dollars saved, especially in today's economy is a lot of bang! . I also like his choice, not to mention i get a better car out of it myself lol. Few months ago he was looking at ONLY new ones, but in reality, not many choices out there for what he was looking for. I think for 13 K you can buy a tiny Toyota lol.

PS, FWD with SNOW tires over AWD season tires? Why not AWD with snow tires as well?

Obviously, but most people figure "Oh I have AWD, I don't need snow tires" ;)

For me it's good FWD > mediocre AWD.

Because most AWDs with snow tires don't have any handling advantage over FWDs with snow tires. You boot the gas on an AWD, it straightens out. You boot the gas on a FWD, it straightens out.

Now if it were an AWD sportscar with a rear-heavy torque bias and limited slips, it would be fun. But most AWD cars aren't, and don't.

Only for the unimaginative.

Either way, he wanted ONLY NEW and ended up with a that?

Big V8... just 30k miles... I don't see what's wrong with that... Nice choice.

vauxhall monaero or vr8 or the holden pick up

Read the bottom of page two. They've bought a car, already.

Im going to close this thread, and post the pics in the Members Car directory tomorrow. This might turn into FWD vs AWD thread.

Thanks again for ideas!

it's certainly not something to take to an auto x event, but it's not terrible. It's more than competent in twisty highway on/off ramps. Enough so that in the odd chance you come across another fellow driving quickly through said highway exchange, you would be able to hold your own in the R.

And I've never heard of the diffs going. The issue that happens on pretty much EVERY car, is the sleeve connecting the transmission output shaft to the angle gear. It pretty much gets ripped apart and is then unable to transfer any power to the rear. The car is left in FWD at that point.

now he has ideas for next time

HAHA Exactly, ideas for me!

I test drove the car today.. My god light on the throttle and your butt want's go though the seats! A lot of power!

Ganna post pics in the other thread since this thread is no more needed for now.

Thanks guys
