Autobahn has a 12" 500w Woofer in a box for 50$ at the moment. Any car audio/music store should have plenty for around 100$. I know JBHiFi are selling Sony and Pioneer in branded boxes for about that. It all depends on how much quality you want.

Also remember that all wattage isn't really wattage. Anything that says Max Power, or Peak, PMPO or anything like that it's pretty much made up to sell ****. For example, you can buy a 1600w 4-channel amp of eBay for 99$, which sounds like a bargain. Except it's only about 4x75w RMS. Same this speakers and subs. While a sub may say '1300w Peak Power', if you tried running 1300w RMS into it, it'd probably blow to pieces. So my advice is only to bother with RMS values which may seem a lot lower, but it doesn't really matter.

Do you know if your amp is monoblock/2/4 channel? And it's RMS value?

I'll type it directly off the sticker on the bottom of it:
--------------------------------------------------
Streamline STL 1000 Mosfet

120W x 4CH 2ohm RMS POWER
200W x 2CH 4ohm BRIDGE RMS POWER
FREQUENCY RESPONSE 20Hz - 20KHZ

4CH x 80W RMS POWER
--------------------------------------------------

It's a rather large unit with a range of controls on it.

In school, I took the senior physics class, and we learnt a bit about electronics and the like. RMS is Root Mean Square, is it not?

Also, with the cd player, I've installed it, and this morning, dad and I put in a fused link between the yellow power wire running from the player and the green wire from the battery. For some reason, the player keeps turning off without warning and it's really annoying. Any ideas on the reason might be?

This morning, I wired up two 6x9's in the back of my car, and they work awesome 👍 I'm happy with that, my first solo job :)
Only thing left now is to get housing for them.

I've noticed that a lot of 'granny' cars come with really nice stock systems, (eg: Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Lincoln, even Buick.) I say, if you already consider your car a rip-off, just get some nice speakers and a simple CD player. Something a step above stock. Dont worry about a lot of gratuitous bass.

I just installed two speakers into my car, the ones I had setup for sound from the computer. They're Sony speakers, and on the back it says Rated Input Power of 25W, and Maximum 50W with 6ohm Impedance. The other 6x9's I had aren't in boxes, and these ones are, so they haul a fair bit of behind

Okay im bringing this thread back from the dead haha I was gonna make my own but i found this one instead. Well i am getting a new stereo installed in my truck now and was just trying to see what everyone else is running. I am getting 2 12" Memphis Shallows. this will be a big upgrade over my previous single 10". Thats my new setup and Ill get pictures up soon, maybe a youtube video too. So what are you running?

I would suggest ordering a Crutchfield magazine and looking through, or use their online vehicle thing to see what fits your car. If you order from them, they even provide you with wiring harness and detailed instructions for your car. 👍 http://www.crutchfield.com

I agree, crutchfield online is a great place to help you with wiring diagrams and speaker/amp selection! 👍

I'm running an Alpine 9XXX series deck through a 940 watt rms Kicker amp and into two 10" Alpine Type R's for my bass, its a bit over kill as I have my subwoofer output at 0 and it can still rattle your back teeth at half volume.

haha sorry SRV but i doubt he still has questions 3 years later. this thread is really old and i just brought it back to show off my new stereo but now i see it was only regarding his setup. i will now create a poll in the auto section asking what people have. check it out and tell us what u have over there soon 👍

I actually answered his question in full, but realized after how old the thread was, so I replaced it with an answer to you with what I'm running for subs and amp.

I'll check out the poll and reply in there.
