I finally got around to starting a new career after the last patch affected a lot of the mods I was using. Currently I'm using a cockpit mod, a damage increaser, helmet mod, tyre wear mod, and an AI aggression mod (which I actually forgot to reinstall for the 1st race... :banghead: ).

Here are the highlights from the first race of the season at Melbourne. Apologies for one of the corners in the qualifying video. (Mr. S may or may not be happy about my driver choice... :sly: )

The Williams was actually fairly quick on options in Q2. However, I realized that I'd forgotten about the tyre bug and I ended up with two sets of worn options going into the race. :ouch: So I just ran a quick lap in Q3 on primes and settled for 10th, aiming to make the most of my longer stints in the race.

Okay, so a little disclaimer about the race. I couldn't sleep last night, so I was up very early this morning and decided to start the career on a whim around 5am. Might have been a bad idea as my reactions were... off. I made a couple of critical mistakes, losing two positions, then I had a puncture (which I muffed the editing on, but part of it is there).

It all worked out in the end, and I don't really want to beat the objectives by too much anyway because the expectations just become ridiculous when you do. The edits kick in more frequently around the 8:00 mark... Hopefully you guys will dig this kind of thing and follow my career progression.

Comments and criticisms welcomed. :)

I'll be tuning into your career run here. Thought about doing something similar myself, but don't have the time right now.:grumpy: I find it interesting to hear about other's races and careers to compare and see differences between everyone's outcome.

Also you were right, the PC version is much more immersive with the better visuals and mods. Speaking of those mods, I'd like to know where you got them and who made them if its not too much trouble for you.

Good luck with your career and I'll be checking in from time to time to see how its going.👍

Hey plate, I found all of my mods over at Race Department. I have everything backed up, with multiple copies of my files, so if anyone ever needs any F1 2011 mods for PC just let me know. RD recently had to take their mods section down so I snagged everything I found useful over there. I have a bunch of stuff that I don't use regularly, like offset T-cams, more helmet mods, and a few others. Actually, I forgot to mention that I also use mods that update the sponsors on a handful of tracks, and improve the textures at Singapore and Monaco.

Great start, took me a few attempts to get it done with manual gears. Still don't know why it suddenly worked. :D

Great race, tho, keep it up - I'll tune in. :)

Season 1, race #2 at Sepang... This is one of my favorite circuits. There are a couple of blind corners that are fantastic. The AI can be a bit erratic at times, but it certainly makes for a good grand prix.

Qualifying was tough. Q2 was in heavy rain, Q3 in light rain. I really had to push to keep up with the AI's quali times, and without using traction control this was no easy feat. There are some very fast corners at Sepang, and braking when that circuit is wet is also very tough without locking up. I only managed 14th for the start, although I did meet my qualifying objective.

What a fantastic race I ended up having. I only had maybe 10-15 total laps where I wasn't either challenging for a position or being challenged myself. I also had to focus on managing fuel and pushing to maintain while all of this was going on. It seems from the past two races that Alguersuari and Schumacher may end up being my rivals, and they were challenging me for most of the race. Pretty much the whole bag went into this result. The damage mod did its job and held me accountable for an aggressive move on Alguersuari. I also had a little run in with Kobayashi on lap 12. I did pull off a couple of bonzai overtakes, one around 6:50.

Like I said, the move on Alguersuari cost me. I ended up going onto my last set of primes on lap 35, trying to make them last until the end of the race... At that point I believe I was challenging for 10th place and pushing for a points finish. When I came back out of the pits with the new wing I just drove as consistently as I could and I manged to work my way back into contention for 11th, even setting the (current) fastest time on lap 37 . The next 15 laps or so were a fantastic back and forth battle, with P11-P15 all within striking distance of each other. That whole time I was managing fuel and trying to make that set of primes last until the end of the race... see the result on lap 53, including the pitstop... :gtpflag:.

I actually really enjoyed everything about the race, and I'm okay with the result. I'm not going for the WDC here. I want to have great races, and this was a great one. Surprisingly there were no DNF's in this race. If I remember correctly, there were at least 5-6 in the first race. Looking forward to China, where I'll try to minimize mistakes and use my head more. Light rain is predicted for the race, which will be a definite challenge for me personally. 👍

Could you film your contract offers and what team you sign for please?

Sure, I thought about doing the interviews throughout the season as well, but wondered if it may be too hokey. My plan was actually to consult people on who they would like to see me drive for in the 2nd season, based on my contract offers. Obviously with Bianchi I think it would be interesting to see him take Massa's place, but I'm also a fan of Sauber and a few others. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for watching.

Yep, well I ended up making things exciting for myself, going out too late and being ousted by Perez at the very last second by only one tenth.

Finished my race at Shanghai. Overall a pretty ordinary race, although there were several overtakes and position changes from P10-P12. I managed the whole race without a knock to the car or wing, which I was happy about. :sly: From zero retirements in the last race, I believe there were 6 in this race, with Vettel taking the win.

They called for rain during this race, but it didn't start until about lap 42. The problem was that I pitted for inters on lap 46 or so, and the rest of the AI cars stayed out on slicks. As you can see, that would not have been advisable by the end of the race, yet they continued to post seemingly dry lap times. I think I was about 10 seconds behind Perez when I stopped, and I expected him to pit for inters at some point and hopefully take his position. But instead he just stayed out and blew me away on slick tires. :grumpy: Oh well, it was a good race until that point, and I met my race objective. It was going to be questionable whether I could overtake him later on anyway. Rubens finished 9th, scoring the first two points of the season for the team, which means I'll have to step it up at some point and get into the top 10.

Hope you're enjoying the vids.

My Winter break is limited, and I'm going to be doing some traveling in the next week, so I'm going to try and get it as many races as I can while I still have time. Here is my qualifying for my next race at Istanbul.

Oh yeah, crap. Can you link me to the mod site?

I got all of my mods from Race Department, but they took their mods section down. They are creating a new one soon, but everything will have to be re-uploaded from scratch. If there is a particular mod you are interested in, I can probably host it for you to download somewhere. I'm out of town for the next couple of days, but just let me know. 👍

@ plate88, thanks.

Okay thanks. I have it on PS3 so it won't do me any good.

Thanks a lot. I've been very fortunate this year with unexpected scholarships, commissions, and even grants, so I splurged a bit. :D PC gaming is certainly the only way to go for me from now on. The only downside I've seen so far is a much smaller online community.

Istanbul race, more drama. For some reason I can't seem to avoid punctures. :odd: They'd previously been on very worn tires, but not this time. Anyway, I had a good start, and a good first stop.

- I was in P8 for quite a while, until Sutil decided to take me out. Take a look and tell me if you all think that was just a racing incident. It happened on lap 22. 💡

It was a decent race, but Istanbul is not one of my favorite tracks. I know it has Turn 8 and everything, but there's really not much else, and overtakes always seem to happen at the same spot. I do like the challenge of the blind chicane though. 👍

More weirdness... like I said, I suffered a puncture on lap 46. When I came into the pits I lost control and smashed off my front wing. The crew didn't replace it, but my car was fine to continue for some reason. I went a couple of laps before I realized they were calling me back to the pits. It took me a while to understand why, but I just continued to the end of the race with no front wing anyway.

Odd indeed, had a 100% race in Spa yesterday and skipped the 3rd stop. Yet, had no problems surviving 20 laps on option tyres.

Could it be that you're pushing too hard in some corners, even when your tyres are worn?

Nah, I don't think it's that. If anything I try to go for smooth driving when I can versus aggressive driving. I'm hoping it's just a string of bad luck and not some bug. Did you see Sutil take me out on L22?

Nice video. Will be following. Now gonna build a gaming tower so I can get with this. Sucks on ps3. So will be watching with interest.
