This sucks. I spent hours and hours and more hours finding, DLing, and transfering Mazda videos onto a CD-R, some 625Mb of em, from my Mazda commercials to surround videos(just the actual Mazda stuff, I have a separate CD-R for the Amature Media(burnouts, street racing, ect).

Tonight, after finding Eunos Cosmo commercials, I decided to put them and some other videos onto this gem of a CD-R with the most complete Mazda video archive on earth, when the damn Roxio CD Writer program locked up mid burning. It's done it before but only for like 3 mins. I let this go for about 10 and no progress, so like the impatient twit I am(well my dad wanted me off of the computer...) I was forced by my waiting weakness to Ctrl - Alt - Del the program, but it didn't let my CD-R loose so I had to restart the PC(the tray wouldn't open like it does when you write a CD...). Took it out, put it back in and I was going to see if it worked at all, but the CD is unreadable. Same thing happened with my Mazda 6 Combo CD-R(I had the Tech Highlights media on it with my other stuff, one of the few times my dad brought the CD home, and I burned it and my bro and my mom were yelling at me to get off the computer and I quit it in mid burn...gone forever, though that's not as bad as loosing the biggest collection of Mazda videos in the world...).

So then I remembered that I saved the CD project, so I tryied to just burn it onto a new CD-R(BTW, we have a CD-R drive, not CD-RW...DOH!) but it didn't work. Nothing worked. I do happen to have 2 other CD-Rs with some of the videos on them, but I added so much since then.

I was wondering if there was a way to just go onto the CD-R and get the files off of it...I wasn't burning the whole CD, just adding some stuff, and if I could do that it would save me days of DLing and finding the videos I had/have...

Any help is appreciated.

Come back Mazda videos, come back. :(

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you were adding files to a CD-R it would have been a CD-RW disc. Once you burn a CD-R it can't be rewritten to add or delete files. So you'd have to have a CD-RW drive to be able to add files right? I'm not sure though.

My question is this though, why didn't you keep all the files backed up on your hard drive? Although it sounds like you had them on another CD-R though.

I'm not really sure on how to retrieve the files though. It sounds like they're gone for good. Sorry.

No, this was a data CD, not a finalized CD. You can write and write on a CD-R drive, you just can't take anything off or write over anything. It's like a 1 way thing, once you fill a CD-R, you can't delete from it.

I was just thinking that since I was just adding to it, I should beable to take off of it the stuff that was already on it, put it on my desktop, then put it on a new CD-R...

You can do exactly that with NeroBurner 5. Check it out, it's great.

I wasn't rewriting, I was just adding. You can add to what's already on it, you just can't write over anything or take the files off of the CD-R(like delete them on the CD-R).

Dunno where you can get it, it came with my CDburner...

Try Kazaa or WinMx, i guess.

I've had problems doing this before. It seems like if you burn once and try to add to the CD-R at a later date it will be unwritable. I have heard of this with audio CD-Rs as well. It's usually best just to burn the whole CD at once.

Risingson, I have always added stuff with no problems, just several times it locks it up. If I probably let it go for a long time it might have done it, but it didn't look like it was doing anything...

Well, I was just sharing my experience. Maybe CD writers and media less cheap than what I use don't have this problem. :p

You could try a "crash data recovery" program. Unfortunately, they cost....

Well Nero is almost done DLing(finally), so hopefully it'll work.

Fred, how do I do this thing?

Alright...got Nero DLed and installed....

I went to "open" and opened my CD-R just to see what was left...about half of the commercials and half of the promo videos...the rest is gone I guess. I don't see why though.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong...
