They came stock with a supercharger...it was that or a VR6 (at least in the US)
The stock SC were notorious for taking a dump.

VR6 is not supercharged only the G60 models have supercharged engines which is called "G-Lader" its a special manufactured supercharger/Turbo only for Volkswagen.

The 6 cylinders from the "VR6" models are not really placed in a V-vorm, they are fitted in an other additional way called VR6, which should explain the name.
They did this because a V6 wouldnt fitt in the bonnet of a golf, ofcourse it could fit in a corrado but it 'll took them more money to invest in manufactureing a new engine. That's why i guess they fitted the VR6 in both the Corrado and Golf
Though im not 100% sure of this, but so if heard.

The VW VR6 motor is technically a V6 but it's a very narrow angle one (15 degrees as opposed to 45+ in most V engines). Also, the cylinders are offset from one another, more like a straight six.

Cool, sorta like BMW's Straight six, though that one is alot larger in mass.
Some of those VR6's have some neet Engine sound when reving.
But unfortunatly there is alot lack of power for such a big volume of engine.
the 2.8 and 2.9 Syncro has only 190PK, for that kind of volume i find it to little. Especially in the Golf its not all that spectacular. Though technology back in the 90th's was still in develloping.

Maybe its that comparable but in the 90th's BMW had 3 litre engines in the M3's E36 (wich is 200/100CC more that a VR6 back then) and they succeded to squeze 280 Horses (93' model) out of that engine. in the later E36 M3's they fitted a 322HP 3.2 Litre Engine, but i guess most of you'll will know this.
But then again... it is a BMW afterall......

I know the VR6 isnt Supercharged...I own one. I was stating that in the US you had an option of the G60 or VR6.
The cylinder arrangement on a VR6 is called a wedge v6 due to the stagger of the cylinders. The vr6 can fit under the bonnet of a golf, but was put in the corrado because it was their sports car of the time. Also Ive heard that a vr6 in a mk2 golf kinda upsets the balance of the car. Any MK2 with a vr6 is a screamer! The corrado uses the MK2 platform. Id assume that the corrado was the test platform for the VR6 before offering it in the golf/jetta mk3s.

It sounds like a Moose on fire!

j/k

Keep up the good work. 👍 What else 'ya going/have done to the car?

Has the vehicle caught fire yet?

Some of the posts in this thread are laughable. Like this one:

that G60 engine was hugely underated.

Yes, it was under-rated in the sense that it's a lot more unreliable than people give it credit for. I mean it's generally agreed to be one of the least reliable cars ever manufactured, but even that is an understatement of how bad it actually is.
