what should she get?? remember guys, she need's something with a $20,000 max price tag.

Holy Christ $20k!?!? That's INSANE! Anyways she need an Escort. A guy on another one has an Escort, it was his first car. He redlines it in every gear, basically tries to destroy it but it hasn't died. It's amazing what it'll take. You could also get an old Sentra. My brother had one, hehopped over a lane and it still ran strong.

Seriously, a second-hand 2006 model is right in her price range. I don't dismiss the MX-5/Miata as nothing but a girl's car, but girls do like them, and chances are your cousin will too. On top of that, they're nigh indestructible.

You know, I fancy myself to be a vaguely good driver, but I would have wrapped a 3rd gen Miata around a tree within a few months had it been my first car.

That's because you're a car enthusiast with a Y chromosome. Between her lack of that chromosome and the fact that Camaro SS hasn't said anything about what she's looking for in a car, I figure my suggestion is rather close to spot-on.

ahh, yes, the type of car she wants is either a crossover, a sports coupe, or an suv. personally, i told her to go to carmax and get a used boxster that i saw for 21K (told her i'd pay the extra 1K :) ) but she said she doesn't really trust porsche too much... i'm hurt, now. now i'm going to customize a mini for her and see if she likes that.

Does she WANT to pay 20k?! I would recommend an older Z32, a lot of fun, a 2 door, plus t-top available!

$5,000 for the car.

$15,000 for the repairs.

Z32's a $20,000 car.

I recommend a used RSX. Some nice ones can be had for under $15,000.

^ Spendid find there ol' chap! :sly:

-> Accord's are excellent cars! And it also won't hurt her wallet as much compared to the ones I posted earlier. :)

Do NOT get her a Boxster. I guarantee you if I drove to school in a Boxster it would be vandalized to all HELL. High School is full of douche bags, get her a car that people won't hate her for driving. Besides if you buy a Porsche you have to be ready to pay stupid amounts of money on replacement parts and maintenance.

My recomendations (all 2007 or 2008 models):

Jeep Patriot

2007.jeep.patriot.20109366-E.jpg

Its based on the Caliber, but Jeep has managed to make an understandably good vehicle for a decent price. You can get a pretty decent model for well under $20K, and should easily fit the bill for crossover/SUV. Plus, I've only seen chicks driving them anyway...

Pontiac G5

2007.pontiac.g5.20100355-E.jpg

Yes, it is a warmed-over Chevrolet Cobalt, but I definitely like the G5 better by comparison, inside and out. Beware of the options though. A fully-loaded G5 GT crosses into GTI and Mazdaspeed3 territory, and that is a place where this car does not belong. A cheap piece of transportation that is built pretty well and can be had at a pretty reasonable price. Fuel mileage isn't too bad either...

Volkswagen Rabbit

2007.volkswagen.rabbit.20096563-E.jpg

No list is complete without me mentioning the Rabbit. You can get it as a coupe (well, a three-door) and as a sedan (well, a five-door), and both carry pretty cheap prices. Build quality is better than it was on the MKIV models, and the fuel mileage isn't too bad with the 2.5L I5. Like the Pontiac, watch out for the options...

Chevrolet HHR

2007.chevrolet.hhr.20092830-E.jpg

I'd likely chose this over the Jeep, but the lack of AWD as an option kinda kills it (slightly) if you've got to deal with snow on a consistent basis during the winter. Altogether they aren't bad vehicles, and it should be plenty good for a girl. You can get it as a coupe too, but it doesn't come with rear seats...

YSS I'm starting to question your manhood. Those are rubbish suggestions--minus the VeeDub. :indiff:

Well, I'm thinking for a Chick here...

why would they hate her for getting a boxster? at her school, that would be considered CRAP. these would be considered basic cars at her school:

so if she bought something for over 200K, it would be this:

boxster = unharmed
veyron = ready for the crusher

--EDIT--
by the way, YSSMAN, the patriot would be copying her best friend lizzy. she doesn't want to be confused with her crazy-@$$ friend too much.

Maybe it's the different schools but here some kids truck had it's windows bashed in. Kids will jump on top of cars in the parking lot and have fights, literally running on people's vehicles. I just wouldn't trust my not-so-cheap-to-fix Porsche being anywhere near my school.

If kids at her school drive Veyrons as basic cars, I wonder what a 'nice' car would be? A CLK-GTR?

Aston Martin DBR9S.

So it's her first car? Don't buy anything too expensive, she'll wreck it in a year. For a first car, go for something small, cheap, reliable, and easy to maintain. The following cars would be perfect as a first car:

Toyota Corolla (Though I'm not sure if it's available in the U.S

107-toyota-corolla.jpg

Volkswagen Golf

volkswagen_golf_23_04_05.jpg

I'd look in this class with a budget like that. Don't forget, it's her first car, don't be stupid to buy a rediculous awesome car...

If she is so worried about people bashing her car she doesn't have to park in the school parking lot... Just go park on a nearby side street and walk for 2 minutes.

My recommendations:

- used BMW 320i
- Pontiac G5
- used Volkswagen Passat (hopefully an 1.8T)

Oh right. I suppose a 325i then? If you can find a used 2002 or newer 3-series in good condition for under 20k, I think that would be a good deal.

a kid at her school wrecked a 360 modena and his dad got him a gallardo

The HHR is kind of odd, but for a female there is nothing wrong with a Patriot. And there is nothing wrong with the G5, either.

The G5 I'll give you, but the other non VeeDub suggestions are trash in my opinion.

I agree that the Patriot is very stupid if you are a man (the Wrangler Unlimited starts at the same price, practically). But for the women...yeah. You're right. Tell her to buy a RAV4 or Pacifica instead.
