My dad got a new truck

Today my dad went to the dealership and bought a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500.It has 4wd,leather seats,ac,power windoes, it got every possible option. He has been looking for a new truck for the past week and after driving a few, he decided on the sierra. He was leaning toward the dodge ram and would have got it if he needed a work truck, but this is mostly for driving in the winter. This is the seventh sierra he owns, the rest are 99's(he bought them for his business), unfortunately when I get my license i wont be able to drive it because the insurance would be too much for me to afford. The truck will be here by the weekend and I will post some pictures as soon as possible.

My stepdad has an 04 Chevy Silverado for work, with the 4.8l V8. I was pretty impressed by how fast it is in a straight line, although coming from a 112hp MR2 it's probably not that hard to impress me :p Overall it's pretty nice, for a truck... not all that exciting to drive though.

I like GM Full-size trucks, my favorites are the GMC Sierra Denali and the Sierra 2500HD w/ Duramax, I test drove them both. Like the Quadrasteer (Denali), and the Duramax (HD), both were fun to drive despite their numbness on their steering. :)

What motor did he get in it? 4.3, 4.8, or 5.3? If you tell me a 4.3 I will cry because that thing is the worse thing GM's ever done.

But the Sierra is a nice truck, I drove one for a little while over the summer. They are pretty comfortable, but I like the F-150 so much better.

^ I test drove the new F-150 Lariat ext-cab, and I didn't like it, almost everything in that truck is terrible (numb steering, flat unsupportive seats, doesn't handle well, and weak acceleration for a V8), The Chevy Hybrid drives a lot better than that. I'd rather pick the Ram w/ the Hemi inside, boy that thing flies!!

The Sierra is a fine pickup, but I have to agree with Vanishing Boy, I'd rather have the Dodge Ram with the mighty Hemi V8. I also love the Ram's styling.

I know how you feel about the insurance Chris, Ontario's whole auto insurance industry is just simply absurd. I can't own a car because the insurance is astronomical for anything.

^ I'm curious about the Titan, I'd like to test drive one and see how it feels. Too bad the Titam wasn't on the 'Autoshow in Motion' that day, the GM trucks, Dodge Hemi Ram, new F-150, and the Tundra.

^ 5.3 is not bad! In fact its quite decent (from my point of view).

I've driven every full sized truck offered in the American market to date. Not with every option of course. By far the best one I've been in is the F-150 followed by a Toyota Tundra, then by a Chevy Silverado. I hated the Nissan Titan, terriable truck but thats just my though on it. I also didn't really like the Dodge Ram, it wasn't terriable though.

I was surprised the 5.7 wasn't offered on the Sierra, that would have been a good choice.

^ Now, I am curious, why would you say that is a terrible truck ? Every magazine written and published said it was an amazing piece of machinery...Car and Driver Magazine rated it it number 1 against F150, gm sierra toyota tundra, and dodge ram ( yeah, thats with the hemi )

I hated the way it felt inside, just the overall fell turned me off from the truck. I could not seem to get comfortable in it. The motor didn't thrill me any, it seemed to be just about on par with everything else. Nissan should focus on cars not on trucks. The only good forgien company that can make a truck is Toyota.

Other reason I don't like the Titan is the look of it sucks and so does the off road capibilities. I got the damn thing stuck!!! I mean come on the commercial shows it covered in mud, but this thing got scared to death in the mud. Once again the Toyota out shined this truck in every way.

So with that said God help us if Honda makes a truck or Mitsu....and yes I know there was the Mighty Max way back when.

^ As much as you hated the Titan is the same way that I hated the new F-150.

-> Mitsubishi is coming out with a '05 Dakota-based Pickup called the Raider next year, and Honda with it new (non-body-on-frame truck) the Havasu also for next year. ;)

I laugh a nonbody on frame truck...mark my words "It will be the worse truck ever produced. Right next to the LUV and Colorado."

I can tell you right now that its payload rating will blow. The truck will not be able to handel it.

I think you meant towing capacity. Doesn't payload have more to do with vehicle weight and power?

The Honda Pilot has more payload capacity than the Chevy TrailBlazer (1323 vs. 1200)
But the TrailBlazer has vastly more towing capacity (6500 vs 4500)

But I dont really see very many small SUTs towing things, anyway. It's important for a fullsize truck, but not so much so for a midsize. The Honda truck is trying to fill a different niche than the body on frame vehicles.

-> Its like a light-duty pickup, a different concept from the traditional pickup norm. I think the new Honda SUT (I think it will be named Havasu) will do a lot better than the Subaru Baja (w/c is the previous-gen Legacy).

Here's a spy shot of the SUT (Havasu):
