It's a lovely Evolution 5 finished in 'Satellite Silver', it's covered only 57,000 miles and cost my dad £5,995 ($9,530~). The best bit is that it's already got a few modifications, namely Tein Adjustable Coilovers worth like £2,500, a HKS induction kit and an aftermarket exhaust which I don't know what make it is, maybe HKS.

He gets to pick it up the weekend after this next one (16th/17th Oct). Expect many photos. Excited isn't the word.

The best of 'em all. More pics when you guys get it please.

your dad is awesome, hope you get to enjoy the evo too, one of my favorite generation.

"DAYUM" awesome car. EVO V's look so agressive and look like an awesome mix of rally and road car. That was a steal.

Thanks all, I always liked the V and VI myself too :D

@terminator363; The funny thing is that on the way to the dealership to view their Evo Vs (They had 3). My dad specifically said he didn't want a silver one. However when we got there we found out that there were 2 silver ones and a dandelion yellow one, and it just so happened that this one turned out to be the best one there.

Good choice, one of my favorite Evo's and the color is nice as it helps to hide the dirt.

I wish my dad would have bought an Evo as a mid-life crisis purchase, but instead he bought a farm and made me do hard labour.

IV, V, VI are amongst my favorite cars of all time!

WOW man, your father got a very nice car! I am jealous!!!!

Tough break man. That said my dad was going to grow a full-on heavy metal beard/long hair combo. I think the Evo was a better choice. He needed to cut car costs anyway as he couldn't afford his Citroen C5 any more (Divorce)

@NoxNoctis Umbra; Same, I always preferred the earlier Evolutions

Thanks again guys

Your dad is awesome. Having had my VI for abut 3 years now, I guarantee it'll put a smile on his face everytime he takes it into the twisties. They're VERY good cars for the money.

Tell him to go shaggy with a soul patch. It worked for Billy Ray Cyrus when he had his mid-life crisis.

Dear God no.

@slidesquad#1; I was waiting for you to post! Always liked your VI :D what can you tell me about owning the Evo? What should my dad be looking out for and any recommended mods?

It'll depend a lot on the particular car you've got. If it's been looked after, they are quite reliable cars. Apart from maintenence, everything I've done to mine has been because I wanted to, never because I had to. Keep on top of servicing, and treat it with a bit of respect, and you shouldn't have any issues (though I doubt your dad is going to be popping helis anytime soon!).

Umm common issues...the lifters (lash adjusters) can get clogged up and make an annoying tapping noise when cold, that's pretty common. You can take them out and clean them, but new sets aren't too expensive, and should be good for a VERY long time.

The suspension top mounts (and sometimes the shocks) can wear out and knock quite a bit with age, but shouldn't be a problem as you have coilovers anyways.

The IVs had crankwalk issues, but again Vs and newer got a different block that isn't as prone to it.

Parts aren't cheap from Mitsi. If you break something you're gonna have to pay, and it's often cheaper to get an upgraded aftermarket part than replacing the OE item.

In terms of modifications, your old man already has the basics done (though double check the condition of the filter, the older HKS ones have a tendency to not filter very much out once they get a bit old from what I've been told). You can probably up the boost a little bit, but I wouldn't run more than 16/17 ish psi on the stock fuel pump. With a Walbro pump the standard fuelling and internals should be good for 20 psi, but at that point you need a remap or aftermarket ECU, the factory one won't let you boost that high. I'm hitting boost cut in the higher gears at 17 psi, and it's pretty nasty. Making sure that your fuelling is right is essential too!
You should be somewhere close to 220 kw (~300 hp) at the wheels with that, and it'll be a lot of fun in addition to having decent reliability. I'm getting my fuel pump in sometime this month, and still debating whether to chuck in a powerfc I bought about a year ago, or selling it off and remapping the standard ecu.

More power than that would need bigger injectors at the very least, and then more aggressive cams, bigger turbo...pretty much depends on what you want out of it, and how big the wallet is.

Your Teins should be more than enough for a street car, and the factory Brembos are awesome as well, especially with some decent pads. Keep in mind that they can get quite noisy around town though. I have a set of cheap and nasty road pads that are quiet for the street, and a set of Endless carbon ceramics for when I know I'm gonna be giving them a hammering. The nice thing about the calipers is that it takes longer to jack the car up and take the wheels off than to change the pads.

You're lucky in that the UK probably has the biggest scene for the pre VIIs outside Japan. Check out lancerregister.com, there's a heap of information out there that'll come in handy.

Any specific questions, ask me, and I'll try to find out for ya!

Well, as some of you may have remembered (You probably didn't), we were supposed to be picking up the car today. Sadly this didn't happen as Lloyds TSB are dreadful and lost both of my dad's card applications. That said we did still go test drive it, and I got more photos.

Drove fantastically, or so my dad says. Something that did make me laugh though was the sheer amount of Japanese cars on the road in that area. I mean I knew the Black Country had a load of modified cars. But Jesus, we saw another 3 Evos within 5 minutes!

Oh yeah and they had this Pao, never seen one of these outside of GT4 before.

Totally true, I had/have a HKS pod and when I got my car it was leaning a little, inspection of the MAFs hot wire showed it was absolutely filthy and needed a good cleaning with electrical contact cleaner (in spray), replaced it with a Trust element and check it out from time to time.

Looking at the pics, it looks like the Evo 5 has a hot wire MAF (never personally tuned a Evo besides assisting in camshaft change) so I would check it to be on that same side.

I use and tuned my car on a PFC and my experience has been great with them (used a datalogit for the full tune), not just the tune itself but the ability to keep an eye on what the engine is doing with the fairly compact commander and make adjustments if needed, rather than lugging a laptop around with you.

 That would probably be the most scariest thing ever!

Also I was wondering if we could get interior shots?

I'd get some covers for those fog lights, they're pretty big and nice and low, but that means they'll probably get stone chipped pretty quick!

Very true, the RS model had foglight covers too IIRC

Better shots coming when we get it

How much power EVO V has exactly/ 276? Anyone knows WHP? Its one sweet ride!!!!

Not sure if it's the same on the 5's, but on the 6 RS the covers replaced the foglights. Unless you get some covers made up you can't have fogs and covers at the same time. I'm pretty sure they're the same with the 4 and 5s. Might be worth looking into.
