Right guys, I need some help.

First off, I'd like to know what kind of trade in value my Dad would get from his Mazda 6 when the 3.5 V6 Chrysler 300C comes out in October. It's a 04 plate, 2.0 TS model, gun metal grey, optional metallic paint and has done just over 10k miles. We're hoping we could at least get £10k for it as that's one of the reasons why we bought the car, good resale value.

Second, has there been any trouble with the 300C, reliability ect? I know information may be from the American version but you never know, the problems might be brought over here too.

Help very much appreciated.

No problems yet - the relatively un-complicated design of the entire project tends to lead to good reliability. It's why Americans have been making huge reliability strides recently while Germans are falling rapidly behind. Simplify, simplify.

For the record, you're off your mind getting a 5.7-liter engine in England.

That's good then.

We're getting the 3.5 V6 version. That will help fuel economy. :)

I don't live there, so I don't know how much trade-in value any cars get. But from what I hear, Mazda 6 are really popular(at least in Europe), so that's gotta help the resale/trade-in value. I'm curious though, why does your dad want to get rid of it? I hear 6's a great car.

My Dad is gettng rid of it because he want's a more luxurious car (getting old I think shhhh). As soon as he saw it, he fell in love with it. He loves the styling, loves it being an auto, the amount of room you get and it's HUGE and my Dad likes cars like that.

Just to let you know my Dad doesn't hate the Mazda 6, we had no problems with it whatsoever, he's just had a change of heart and gone luxury. I guess his trend of replacing his car ever year continues...

Gotcha. That is totally understandable. 👍

I must admint the 300C handling is not that good at all.

It's based on the latest Mercedes E-Class so I don't know...

And, my Dad doesn't care about handling now, he just wants luxury.

Please, please, please understand, I'm not saying this to be mean at all and I'm not trying to belittle you or your dad in any way, but...IMHO, that's a really weak reason to buy another car. I'm sorry, maybe it's because my family isn't exactly rolling in it and can't afford to do this ourselves, but it just seems horribly wasteful to constantly replace your car like that when the machine in question still runs.

Again, I'm not trying to be cruel, I'm just stating my opinion on the matter. No offense is intended at all. :)

That's OK. My Dad loves the feel of another new car. Each year he says "I'll keep this one for 5-10 years", but it never happens.

You call him horribly wasteful then you say no offense was intended?

300 = 2.7, 3.5
300C = 5.7
Ooops, sorry. I never knew the 300"C" is the 5.7, and the 3.5 is the "300"...

I said it SEEMS wasteful, to ME. As in, it's just my own opinion, and whether others agree or disagree with me, I'll respect their view. So relax, okay? 👍 :)

I can't help how I feel about the situation, bro. Besides, he already said that he didn't take any offense, so why are you still incensed? I do realize that what I said was fairly harsh (which is why I took such pains to soften it as much as I could), but I really wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings. Really. :)

I believe it'll be the same in the UK (i.e. the "C" is reserved for the V8). The C appears on the Hemi badge, so I don't see how you could have the Hemi badge on the non-Hemi engined cars...

Incensed? If we were in real life I'd ask if this was a hidden camera show.

The first time I replied to you, I only did so because I was making a post anyway. When you told me to relax, I literally had to scroll back up because I didn't even remember what you said that I had replied to. Now I'm like four posts in on a subject I never even cared about in the first place!

This one needs to go in an archive somewhere.

Interesting. I wonder how that's gonna fly in a country where gas is like triple what we pay.

Not very well :)

edit: Although it does have the advantage of only running on 4 cylinders when you're not pushing, which should save some fuel

Oh, okay. I construed your post as meaning you were angry because of what I said (and I can understand why you might be, though I really thought I did a good job of keeping it as polite and non-hurtful as possible) to GT. Sorry about that. :)

My Dad could go for the HEMI V8, because when crusing, it shuts off 4 cylinders so it should be more fuel efficient than the V6 if he doesn't put his foot down. It's just the extra money you have to pay:

3.5 V6 and diesel: £25,750.
5.7 HEMI V8: £32,995.

It's just that extra £7000 that my Dad can't afford, and insurance will cost more too.

I've been on www.chrysler.co.uk and signed up there, and the only things it tells you is the spec lists and options, ect.

My Dad should be ringing Chrysler today for a test drive. Do you know wheather Chrysler will get some cars in early so people will get a test drive before the official release? That would be cool. :)

Well, my Dad might not be even getting it now. I let my Mum know the details on the cars and she's worried about the price and the size of the thing, also the fuel economy. I'll just have too see, I'm totaly not sure what he's going to do...

Think about it this way instead...

If people didn't change their cars regularly and only when they broke, the used car market would be stagnant and full of really expensive (rare = sought after = expensive), knackered cars.

Thanks to G.T's dad there's another cheap, well-maintained, mid-size family saloon (which attracts rave reviews) hitting the market, helping those amongst us who are "not exactly rolling in it" access to continually better and better cars. This in turn contributes to improved road safety, as more people have access to the newer models with improved impact and pedestrian impact ratings, and the environment, as more people have access to cleaner, more efficient cars - and you get the idea.

However, having seen the interior of the Chrysler 300, I do have to say that G.T's dad is BARKING MAD if he's after luxury and buying one of these. Get a 3.0 Jaguar S-Type SE instead - THAT'S luxury.

I know, we'll have to see the interior before anything else!

My Dad doesn't like Jags too much (don't ask why, styling?), and the Chrysler's price is as cheap as chips for the market. We'll see...

The S-Type is nice. It's like driving a living room - if your living room is full of soft leather furnishings and walnut.

What about a MK5 Golf GTi aka new one.

Maybe even a new 3-Series or new 5 series.

No, my Dad likes the style of the Chrysler 300C, that's it. It's the American appeal too.
