My dog molly of 15 years old, smells of death. Her tracheas collapsed and she's lost it. Let me list the issues of molly:
-She peed on the cushions yesterday
-She flemmed on my jacket while coughing a lung up
-She coughs and farts constantly
-She's deaf as a post
-She is nearly blind
-She gets lost in the house because her minds gone
-She smells of the grim reaper. She walks past you smell death. Its grim.

I sit at night thinking I should spade her in the back garden but I think what she used to be. I hate her. I want to come down one morning and her to have died in her sleep. If she was a person She would be in a care home and nobody would visit her.

Have any of you been on this position? What should I do?

Have some compassion and put her down if you think she's in pain. Try not to hate her for being old, you will be too one day.

I just look at her walking past me and I think, I hate you.

Think old yeller, but with a butchers badger hammer instead of a shotgun, that's what I think about when I see her :(

Put her down if you think she is in pain like said. I would be heartbroken though.

This thread makes no sense, Ellis is obviously a heartless wanker. Have a vet put your poor suffering dog down, I'm sure it will be pleased to have you out of it's life.

Burn yourself, i know people like jb who i am in a similar situation with

Who is JB? What situation are you on about? What does this have to do with an old dog?

I love my dog very much, it tears my heart out seeing her like this, so I am heartless.

This is my coping mechanism. Deal with it.

Harsh, but true. Put the poor mutt down.

Put it this way, none of you know the tale of molly

There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. I don't care if the dog killed a child and set the house on fire, any dog can be an amazing animal in the hands of a competent owner.

That said, if Ellis wants people to think anything other than "what a horrible guy for hating his dog just because it has health problems in old age", we need to hear reasons not to think that.

I wasnt sure if the op was trolling or serious. Sorry to hear about your dog Ellis, but I agree with them. Yes put the dog down. You are borderline being accused of animal cruelty. 👎 Take it to the vet or man up and take care of it yourself. Almost everyone here has been in this situation. Its painful but its better than letting your dog suffer.

Might have been the dog wandering out...
Probably. Anyway this dog should be going to the vet who can, if necessary euthanise the dog instead of you waiting for it.

On a totally unrelated topic, I think it's odd how everyone understands euthanasia when it comes to dogs, and yet enough people don't understand it when it comes to humans that it's against the law. Strange.

What is it that they always say? I you love some one or animal, you need to be able to let go.

There are times where I absolutely hate that line.

Take her down, with respect, not a hammer, either go to a vet or if you have are a legal gun owner, put her down.

It's no life for your dog, and obviously you have your fair share of problems with it to.

The vet also can come home if you don't want the smell in your car, or she can't keep calm in the car.

I won't leave a judgement on what you said otherwise

Actually some of us do. My dad was dying of cancer and I had to pull the plug. You dont know pain until you are in that situation. :guilty: I also believe in the death penalty. So with that said, I still support my previous reply in post#17.

I would take it to the vet and have them put it to sleep with a shot. It will just look like your dog went to sleep.

My cat had massive kidney problems a few years ago, from which he couldn't recover. I think it's something else to euthanise a pet instead of a human relative (which isn't against the law here).

Very hard decision to make. Sometimes also the right thing to do.

Dear god I can't imagine the guilt I would feel from doing that....:nervous:

It was part of his will, a promise our entire family made him, and he was already on life support at the end. Hardest decision of my life....but the right decision. He is no longer suffering. Just wish he would have quit smoking many years ago. Could have lived a much longer life.

Anyway back to the dog. In my lifetime I have had to put 2 dogs down. Took them both to the vet. 1 because of heart worms. 1 because of cancer. I havent owned a dog in over 13 years. Never plan to own another one. Its a quick shot with a needle, then they gently go to sleep.

Having had to do this for my own pets - I can say not quite. It depends on the animal. When I did this for my cat, he was pissed off and scared that something hurt him when he got the injection, and then died in front of me. Not exactly easy. It's still more humane than some of the ideas thrown around in this thread.

Most vets give you the option to stay in the room or leave. If you stay, yes you will hold your animal until its last breath. Which is only a couple seconds later. After this moment, I would recommend leaving the room shortly after.
