As a 15 year old kid, wanting to learn everything I can possibily learn, and having friends that are firefighters, I decided to join the Ladder of company 93. Anyways, No training yet, no nothing, REMOVED BY MOD I'm Sharing gear with someone thats about the same size as me. But anyways! Tonight, I'm sitting at my computer (roughly 12:00AM) and all I here over the radio is "Ladder 93 for aid in Avoca Structure Fire", All of a sudden, I freak out, shoes on, grab my radio, and i'm off sitting in the car waiting for my mom to get off her damn lazy-boy...

I got there and got my gear on quick, only 5 of us on the truck tonight, REMOVED BY MOD our driver was from another company becuase no one else had the cert's to drive a Firetruck, Anyways! Haullin' ass down main street and around corners WAY to fast for a truck that size, I was freaking out, almost cried when the guy sitting next to me told me to put on a air mask and a oxy pack. We got there and all hopped out, grabbed ladders and headed up the hill to the house, i chilled as everyone pilled up the ladders onto the roof to cut some hole's in the roof. We hosed everything down a few more times, i ran around setting up a few more lights, hoping no one was going to fall in the damn pool.

All and all, I figured I'd share my first REAL Firefighting expirence. I have to say, Its a nervewracking job, and is harder than it looks... The gear is HOTT as hell, and with no training, I had no clue what was going on, but I did what i was told..

Is this like a volunteer gig where anybody can sign up, or a special allowance for you because you have 'people on the inside'?

Its a Volunteer work, I would not got paid because I'm under 18 if it wasent. Plus I would not be able to do "anything" because of the strict rules they have against minor's (my Dept still lets me in buildings and stuff though because were ALWAYS low on man power)

Thanks Nd 4

I have a friend I met in Virginia just recently, he got to do that kind of thing. They where getting rid of an old abandoned house as a training drill and because of the risk of unwanted fires. (It was right next to a big forest.) I have to say the fire was unbearable even from 50 yards away.:scared: I looked pretty cool though!!!!!!!!!!!👍
