Because they make more money selling boring cars. Fast cars rarely make lots of money, they're usually there to add to a brand's public image. Toyota doesn't want to change their public image - they're just fine with 'smart and sensible.'

*goes on a frantic quest to turn everyone in the world into a petrol head and stop the turning-cars-into-a-household-appliance trend*

Actually, I was thinking about this in the shower the other day. At what point exactly did Toyota stop being cool? They have such an awful reputation now. And I was thinking, when was the last time they built something really cool? I mean, the Supra was built, but the prices were high, and it was limited, and no one bought it anyway. Has Toyota's reputation always been this way? We're talking about a brand that had to create another brand because its image was so poor.

Naa, toyota is still at large.

My fathers car is a yaris - powered by the smalest engine aviable for it, at last 65hp i guess but look at the wheel base. Its broarder than a mercedes a-class i guess. Nicer to handle than every other compact car i´ve ever driven! Put some more power into it and it could become real mean - without spending all your money in it :)

But I guess your right. Since Toyota´s going the ecological way they´ve lost all their reputance to the racing community (corollas with FF and that bloody prius have put an end to that great aera of japanese sportscar supremace) but which big car producing company havn´t done so? Guess we have to blame ourself for ****ing up the prices on gas-market that last few years.

Wish I could timewarp back to 1983 shouting out "running in the 90s" in my brand new AE86 :)

By the way my first car was a red hot Nissan Micra GL built in 1989 which gave me more thrill than that BMW 320d my brother is owning right now. Seeing me to try powerslides on an icy parkinglot with that one he would kill me for sure !
