My first day driving online

Today I started driving online for the first time. I wound up in the 700pp Intermediate at Suzuka for about 20 races. I tried several different cars and finally settled on the Tuned Clio since it is fast and balanced.

I did OK, usually coming in first or second. I found that the punters usually screwed up in the first lap so even if I got punted I had time to recover.

I raced against some fast clean drivers and had alot of fun. Kudos to ghostfaced and catd9 and OO7Cas. Great racing.

And then there was MadMax05... He is a punter but different than the others. He knows all the tricks. He blocks and brake-checks and cuts corners and rams and anything else you can name. I raced him 5 times. I beat him 4 times but I wound up in the kitty litter one time and he beat me.

So get this... After I beat him the 4th time he sent me a message.

"just to let you know the CLIO is a PU**Y car"

I'm just so hurt I may never race online again.

To which you should have replied: 'At least it doesn't have a p**y driver like yours' ;) :p
 
I know this guy from the pro events. He's one of those really annoying punters, who's actually quite a good driver.

As opposed to the retarded ones who I can actually have a bit of fun with :sly:
 
Huh. I had someone messsage me too regarding the Clio, he said the Clio is a Girls Car.:crazy:
What just because he tried to punt me and I dodged him!:D
He said I was nothing...amoung other things.
But he came last....and I came first!!lol:lol:

Which is why you should feed them a reply like above, they'll bite for sure. ;) You can almost see the dude swearing and jumping around, the veins in his forehead almost popping with anger. :sly:

"Is that supposed to be an insult? What are you 12? Just to let you know... If you learn to drive you won't have to pull punk moves to win. A man drives clean. A little boy cheats to make himself feel like a man. The difference between us is I am a man. The car has nothing to do with it. Grow up."

By the way, does anybody have a strategy for beating the brake check move? If I draft up behind somebody I know brake checks the only thing I know to do is move over and try to go by but I know they will try to put me off the track. Sometimes I can fake them out but sometimes I get punted anyway.
 
lol people are very strange these days.

GT5:P brake checkers usually fail wallriders get punished (by me lol)

Its the kids who race thats it. They are probably used to NFS or something :lol:

Brake check is one of those 'unblockable attacks' :grumpy:

On the upside it's a great way of dealing with habitual punters :sly:

I have avoided the last 3 brake checks....
All are lucky for sure. The person infront didnt seem like one so I drafted and just on time I missed it...

Yesterday some idiot gets a penalty at the last corner of HSR and brake checks really early lol. Avoided.

Last one was a wallrider I think. The straight of HSR he brake checks but only my right nose got hit and he spins :lol:

HSR afterschool = children with their NFS skills
 
We need an official thread that bashes bad drivers because almost everyday poor mods have to put up with people posting new threads about this topic.

Theres always going to be that bad apple but you'll have to learn to drive faster than them ..👍

This isn't a "punters suck" thread. This topic isn't about his driving. It's about the message he sent me, which I found hillarious. I had to describe his driving as background to the message.

I figured out within 10 races that I can usually pass the punters (clean pass or not, who cares. I race everybody clean until they prove they don't deserve it, then I just move them like I would an AI car). Those races I can't pass the punters who cares. Just race again.

I sent messages to the clean drivers I mentioned above thanking them. I think it's always good to "catch people in the act of doing good" and say thanks.

The private rooms will be nice but until that day I will continue to enjoy online racing in spite of the children misbehaving.

The poor mods can lock this thread if it is out of line, but I don't figure it is.
 
what do you mean by brakecheck???

BTW HSR is not always that bad, i've had very good races there at midnight

Brake checking is when the car in front of you hits the brakes causing you to hit them. It slows you way down but speeds them up. Of course this would wreck both cars if crash physics were right.

I think PD was trying to prevent punting by doing it this way but they just gave the punters a different weapon.

GT definately needs crash damage. And I personally think that cars should get stuck in the kitty litter. It would be more realistic, and people would drive alot less aggressively if they knew a trip to the gravel could be permanent.

Until there is an effective way to deter these tactics and level the playing field, I will continue to take advantage of all the tricks the tracks have to offer.

These techniques are available to anyone and it should not be up to the user community to self-govern; the users should only be responsible for playing within the system boundaries of the game.

Also, because we lack separate rooms for steering wheels and controllers, one can never be sure if all of the players are equal to begin with.

I'm glad you have fun playing video games like this; if you want to beat a computer that is potentially superior to most human minds, that's fine. Of course, the programming is done by a human, so technically you are beating a human's mathematics and idea of a game. But if that is what allows you to enjoy the game against the computer, then go right ahead, it isn't interfering with others. How you play the game against the computer is totally up to you.

What the hell do you think a user community is made up of? It's made of people, and when you personally take no responsibility for self-government, why should we look out for you?

Yes, it is a just a game. Nobody comes to physical or financial harm when two simulation cars crash into each other. But this game is not about accidents and incidents, it's about driving, and sportsmanship is what sporting events are about. I can't imagine much fun in cheating time and time again against other player which are following the rules and acting in a unsportsmanlike manner, eventually you will become bored.

A football game does not permit kicking of other players merely because players have feet. A baseball game does not allow you to hit people over the head with a bat, just because it's a key piece of equipment used in the game. A boxer can't hit below the belt or punch the top of the head, even though punching is a central element of the sport. Likewise, the car, driver, and track are central elements of a motor sports event, and how those elements are used is what defines greatness.

I'm not sure if you're going to read this, but apparently you wish video games to be an online version of professional wrestling, but with racing cars. Go play a game where crashing is a central part of the game, and don't complain to us about how we do it. If beating up on others in video games while you play gives you a laugh, don't whine to the rest of the world about how the outside world doesn't give a crap about you or your problems, which are probably kept up inside, seething in agony while you wear all-black clothing listening to annoyingly loud music, and whoring your body out to a monolithic tobacco corporation, while hoping the world doesn't see you, and taking out your frustration at people you don't even know in your spare time.

It is good to know. It should not be up to me to guarantee a fair race. If you disagree, you might be a GT idealist. If it was controlled, no one could use it.

It's not something I enjoy, but I feel is necessary because if I played clean someone else would play dirty anyway.
 
A football game doesn't allow kicking nor does a baseball game allow hitting people with a bat, which is why it is not done. Gran Turismo Prologue allows this, and as long as these loopholes exit users will exploit them. If not me, then the other guy. What is so wrong with this?

I would love to see a fair game as much as anyone else. After all, most Gran Turismo players are fans of racing and cars and a realistic race experience in general. But it would be silly not to take advantage of everything available to get the victory.

People should learn to race a little bit tougher; not so soft.

Im truly scared that people actually think like this. "We can never be sure how friendly these people are, so lets just arrest them and shoot them in the head to save the trouble".

Of course, you can't guarantee a fair race, whether insider or outsider of the race. None of us have the ability for race control. But since there are no race stewards or sanctioning body other than the rules and limits of the game, we prefer Fair Play. If we disagree, it might be because you're not making the online game fun nor fair to play.

If this continues, all of us idealists will just have to quit playing our game online, and you can play with yourself.

That's the line of reasoning you're using; if I don't cheat, someone else will. Lame excuse; at least say you're retaliating from another incident. But apparently, you're the cause of these sorts of things, so expect a little backlash, son.

But staying the course is too tough for you, tougher than just mindlessly running into things, which anybody can do. And I bet you run the course in reverse when losing, because you can't handle losing. You've probably never willingly played a team sport, donated time and effort to charity, nor built nor helped out on anything collectively; none of those things are a requirement, but it shows about how little understanding you have for anything other than yourself. Except, you don't really understand yourself, since your best achievements are probably achieved in a video game. You're a sore loser/winner if you're brake checking people, plain and simple.

Let me guess, you stink at all the other GT games, from GT through GT4? Can't pass the tests nor win races? No problem, take it out on the online players, there's no rules there.

Everything said, I am confident that the final version of GT will solve all of these problems. This is why I am not worried about these things in the Prologue. It is our duty as the GT fanbase to know as much as possible about the game, it's failures, loopholes, etc. so that we can one day enjoy a fair and balanced race.

Wall riding is still a problem in the time trials, as it always has been. Does this mean you won't wall ride if you aim to achieve a top 10 score? Lighten up.

You can't whine and moan about this stuff. You must adapt.

No, because cheating isn't fun at all. I'd rather test my actual skill at driving, not at cheating, thanks.

Its not about winning. It never is. Its about racing, driving, competing, having fun. If someone decides to cheat for the win and gains it, good for him he can enjoy a very hollow victory. But I would rather win through my own skill at the wheel and enjoy it at the same time.

Think of us like the knights of old, with their code of chivalry. They were hacking peoples heads off, same as the next guy but they decided to enforce a bunch of rules to make it more fun.

That's all we do at GTP. We believe that racing within a set of rules makes it more challenging, therefore more realistic, therefore more fun.
 
Why play fair? How about something called self-respect. When I win I can take pride knowing I drove clean. And when I lose so what. I know there will be another race.

I have slowed down and let somebody pass me when I accidentally punted them. I have had the same done to me. I have deep respect for those who place honor above winning. I have no respect for those who think winning is all that matters. How pathetic is your life if you are so desperate to win an online game?
 
Smokadeth, I'm a bit confused as to why you've bothered to sign up to GTP? Surely you must have known that your views on what you regard as legitimate racing techniques goes against 99.99% of peoples views on here? All you're going to achieve with an attitude like that is to get people's backs up. Dirty driving is probably the number one gripe of playing online - and you've just announced to the world that you purposely engage in it. Nice one.
