wow you guys dont like the japanese spec soundtrack? I loved the rock music since GT1! i have played the US verions of all three and quite frankly i love the rock soundtracks from 1 and 2 except for GT3... so i ended up turning off the music... but each to their own tastes... i dont have the game yet but have downloaded the soundtrack and some of the old songs have been revised which sounds great

con, saint, how about you guys mind your own and stay out of my affair? Now if you dont mind, can the both of you get some business? saint, you just wasted a good 5 mins typing because I aint reading what you got to say, same with you con, the first sentence was your thesis, so I already know the blue prints to your point and it's rubbish now lets enjoy the thread, not trying to start anything...

Great review. I just picked up the latest version of Playstation magazine ( with GT4 on the cover ), and they went into quite a bit, but really nothing I haven't read here already.

As far as that goes, KY said he had a working version of an online game on his desk, but didn't like how the graphics suffered. So, apparently the pursuit of all things GT may have found the Memory card battles being snuffed for similar reasons...who knows really. I'm sure we will eventually get an answer to the 2P mode once the 'zines get a hold of KY again for another interview.

To the "over view", I thought it was well worth the read. Gives me some hope with the AI if it does have a "learning curve". Which would be intersting to see if every version of GT4 plays differently...say if you go to your Bro's house and play on his copy and get your butt kicked by cars that you beat at home. Probably just fantasy on my part, but a neat concept to say the least.

The biggest question on my mind is why the release for GT4 is being delayed. I'll wait, but I'd wait less restlessly if I knew WHY I was waiting.

Thanks for the info....just another itch that got scratched, which of course just spawned more itching.

this is the thing, you've seen it, you know exactly what it is, we've explained it to you. None of us are trying to annoy you, however, your are sort of like the child who asks, "are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet".

I appreciate your kind comments towards me, lol.

Just please, and this is a kind suggestion, know what you know and ask what you don't. Asking how good it is, when everyone has told you and you have seen it, will not change it.

very nice review mate!!!!!!
:)
about the sound of cars, don t u think nfsu2 has good ones?

Hell yeah. It might be an arcade game but the sounds are waaaaay better than any GT game I've played. A 500 hp Mustang sounds like it should as does a 400 hp Civic. In GT3, a 350 hp Camaro sounds like an electric pencil sharpener, as Code_Kev once said.

Electric pensil? .I haven't seen much video of GT4 :( so i can hear the sound, but the RX-7 has a correct sound (Rotary).

Eddy, thanks for the review, however; you were glaringly wrong on one point: RUF is not a fake company created by PD to get Porsche in the game. They are in fact a real company that makes real cars. Also, RUF is classified as an independent manufacturer, not a tuner. About the only component on a RUF that is the same as a Porsche is the body, and even that has been modified. RUFs are in fact different enough from Porsches to be sold with a RUF vin number. Thus, the independent manufacturer moniker.

Sorry that may have come out wrong. I just thought it was clever that PD found another route to get Porsches in, by using the manufacturer RUF, which are essentially highly modified Porsches.

And thanks to everyone for their comments, I wasn't expecting this much response.

You're welcome, it was a good review.

But it's still not "essentially a highly modified porsche". Because only the body is porsche. Everything else is different. The do TUNE porsches, however the company as a whole produces cars that have no association with Porsche, just like Shelby and Ford. The difference is that Shelby recieved running working cars from ford, and modified them, RUF just gets a frame and body parts, gutted in it's entirety, and adds their own components.

They are not porches, at all. I've saved this link for informational and educational purposes. :) Enjoy it. And once again, nice review.

The engine sounds in GT4 are very realistic from what I've experienced - totally accurate on the RX8 at all parts of the rev range (i have an RX8 in real life and GT4). But having said that the RX8 sounds like an electric pencil sharpener in real life anyway :)

ok.. I think the most important question yet STILL hasn't been answered !...

/* Points to post 12 in this thread */

We still don't know if you are, or are NOT allowed to ***** about the AI....

Now those with GT4 - Get to work !....

I suppose the only thing I can do is race, save the reply, train my b-spec driver, race again, save reply, and compare. I won't be able to cap, but if I notice anything I'll definately let you know, but I do not think it will "train" very much. If anything it will teach the AI when to put pass and pit, but it is still faulted because it follows a very basic race line, and the AI still isn't extremely aware of it's surroundings, you can't do anything about that.

Good review Eddy - you must be a fellow Brit with your tastes in whats good & bad about the GT series!

Everyone is right, very nice review eddy. I'd give you a hug if i was there...wait, if i was there i'd say screw you and steal your seat. :sly: good work and this makes me very excited. I'm through being impatient about the release. just wait and ye shall be rewarded :)

Awesome review.

When I first fired up Prologue I had a similar experience to what you noted in respect to the rally mode. Although GT4 is improved far beyond GT4P the jump from GT3/GTC rally was immense and I suffered from the same “spastic rear end” syndrome. I learnt to be gentle with the cars and to drive smoother lines with no jirky or sudden movements. With this I began to appreciate the new rally feel and began to like it much more. Even now though, the rally cars behave more naturally compared to stock cars. Do tell us how you get on with a rally car instead.

Totally agree with you on this, at first i found the rallying on Prologue very tricky, but once i got used to it i found it was much more realistic than GT2 or 3. Gravel surfaces are very slippy to drive on in reality and i think GT4 (prologue) handled this aspect well.

I've just read the big review, great stuff! In my opinion, the sound difference between GT4 and 3 is quite big but you need a good setup to hear that. There's quite a lot of low frequences in there that require a sub bass, maybe even cranked up a few notches.

I've only got the Japanese demo but the Falken Skyline (and even the standard Skyline) sound fantastic.

engine sounds: Some of them are terrible and others are incredible. I think the best example are the two 69 camaros. The SS sounds like a sewing machine. The Z/28 sounds like a real muscle car should sound.

rally racing: You nailed the problem.

AI: Blecch!!!! It's classic GT AI at it's relative "finest".

Classic car meet: That car way off over the horizon was a Shelby Cobra. It doesn't appear in every race, but if it does, you'll be wishing you had entered with a cobra. I'm pretty sure this is a fairly realistic representation of the era. There were muscle cars, sports cars, economy boxes, and then there was the cobra.

Music: You might not like the JP stuff by guys like Masahiro Andoh, but he has a beautfiul technique and can hang with guys like Satriani all day long.

Physics: This is where GT4 shines! If there was only one car, it would still be a better game than GT3. That's how good I think the improvement is.

Spectator noise: I wish that guy with the horn would put a sock in it!
