Hey guys, my name is Mavryk (Mav works also). I just recently got into GT5 this past xmas after buying the PS3 for my kids. I used to play GT3 a few years back and loved it. Decided to give GT another run.

After reading a few threads here I see there are some really hardcore players. Don't worry, I'll never challenge your abilities. As it is right now, I don't play online but would like to eventually. Need to build up some skills, cars, and credits. I'll be checking into GTP regularly for tips.

First thing I noticed with GT5 is just how in-depth it is compared to the other GT games. So much more can be done. Takes longer to get to the expert lvl. If I remember right, you used to be able to get the racing package (body style and race car looks) in GT3 fairly early on. I haven't been able to get it yet with GT5. Not sure when or with which cars I can get it. Guessing it comes with the expert class races.

One question I have right now is:

How does this online racing work exactly? Is it only with super cars at the highest lvl or can any lvl get in on it?

Ok, make that 2 questions.

If anyone wants to throw me a few tips and advice here, feel free. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thx

Racing Modification is available at any time. Only a handful of cars actually have them, so if you try and race mod a certain car and it says that it's not available, then it's not available for that car at all.

Any car can go online. The types of races depends on how the room host has it set up.

The online races are the best feature in this game although the first one I tried was terrible. So far away from the other guys. I have to practice a lot, especially because I don’t have the steering wheel.

Anyway....good luck for us!

I am running an online series that is using 350 PP street cars on comfort tires this month. Online is what you make of it.

Canada must be a very happy shiny place.

What up, and Welcome....
Now thats out the way, send me a friend request (daveydeez) and i'll send you a fully modded car you can take online and get your feet wet. As far as venturing online, i think Nike said it best; "just do it". you can use any car, and most rooms will specify certian regulations. Anyway, i hope you have fun in gt5.

Welcome to GTPlanet. 👍

Try online racing. Go into a Shuffle Race room. Then tuning cars is not as important. The PS3 lends you a new car each race.

This will help you get used to the different feeling of the cars online. It will also get you out of predicting the lines that the AI take as the real life players take their own unique lines.

As always, if you need anything, just ask. I might not know the answer, but I will always try to help. :)

I agree!! Try out shuffle racing, it's good training for learning different types of cars but also very fun because of a "relatively" even playingfield.
However I almost cried once when I was given the ruf yellowbird against the
Nissan GTR and other MUCH faster cars, proof that shuffleracing can also be very "unfair" :(

If you haven't played scince GT3 I can recommend that you do the license tests. They are actually pretty good for improving the driving skill :)

Welcome! My one tip for you is to allways do the license tests first. It's the best method to learn how the physics work and to get used to GT5.
Have fun! :)

Yes, agree with that, shuffle racing is very fun.
But even though you may get a worse car than the others, it's allways a good challenge to yourself, it's cool to see what you can do with it, and even cooler if you can actually win. :p

No, we also suffer from frequent cloudcover.

Not to mention, partly scattered daylight

Thx for the welcome guys. Looking forward to getting online with this. My name in game is also Mavryk so feel free to add me to your list. I should be up and running within the week. Daveydeez, you'll be the first I contact.

Schwadegan, I took a look at your list of cars there and got myself the 'vette ZR1. Amazing car. Stinking fast, good handling. Looking forward to getting it fully modded. Should have it done by the time I can get online.

Anyone know why cars here are classified as pp and not hp? I'm only guessing here, but might have something to do with the playing field? Trying to keep it even as much as possible. The weight reduction of a vehicle increases pp but not hp. Is this pp thing new for GT5? Don't remember it being in GT3.

PP are performance points and were introduced in GT5 Prologue, they take into account things like horsepower, torque, weight and downforce, etc.
So if you reduce weight, increase horsepower and downforce the PP number increases and the other way around.
And it's indeed aimed to create an evenly matched field, although it's a bit useless to use as the single indicator since there's a huge difference between some cars with the same amount of PP, so it's wise to take the category of car in consideration as well. :)

Welcome on the wagon and enjoy your stay in the game..

If your new to the game and want to race online my suggestion would be to start with shuffle rooms. A shuffle race will randomly select a car for you so you don't need to own the car given to you for that particular race. Beware that racing online can be frustrating if you don't find some clean racer to race against. The online community seems to be overflowing with kids that don't know how to race properly.

I occasionally host rooms from time to time, so if you wanna try racing online without any hassle feel free to join mine. i'll send an invite if i see you online.

Hey, man, since you're new to the game send me an FR and I'll send you a level 23 ticket I just won. I have every car in the game so I don't need it.

Welcome to GTP! :D

On shuffle races, its (personally) THE most addicting thing online. I think its all I do online these days!

I've been playing online for some months now and that's the first time I hear about shuffle racing. How do you find those rooms. Usually, I only enter rooms that I see the pp limit when I put my cursor on. Otherwise what do you do, enter the room and ask the host what it is about? A little bit long, no? Online is still obscure for me, don't know mush about it.:indiff:

Welcome to GT5 and GTPlanet. Look no further for some of the best news and advice when it comes to the GT series. As mentioned many times before, start with the License Tests to get a feel for the offline physics, and Shuffle Races for online, as you will notice a slight difference in physics.

A slight difference in physics? Cars all handle different online? I would imagine online you don't see the smoothness of the races as you do with offine. A lot more bumping and jostling for position. My style may have to change if that's the case, lol.

It just seems to be a little more slippery online...nothing you can't handle.

When you browse through the list with all the different online rooms you will see that like 90 % of the rooms have a blue text on the far right of the screen saying: NORMAL RACE (?), the rest of the rooms have a yellow text instead simply saying: SHUFFLE RACE

LOL. Pretty much the same with most of the forums out there. You get some pretty bad ones, however (not going to name them). From what I can tell so far, this one seems to be one of the better ones. The key is the administration. If they keep up on the bad posts and trolling, it's all good. Forums are meant for passing along information and getting together with people with similar interests. Nobody needs to log in to people running their mouth off (we get enough of that at home...lol). No forum is absolutely perfect, of course, but I think the admins here do a pretty good job.
